I remember the Euro 2008. I was twelve years old. Netherlands beat both World Cup finalists in the group stage like it was nothing. Then they lost to Russia under Dutch coach Guus Huddink. I still can't believe it, lmao
I didn't see any of the matches France and Italy played except for those against the Netherlands. However, seeing that they both drew against Romania makes me think they were past their top of two years earlier. At the same time the Netherlands were not at their top, but coming back after a period with bad to average results (not qualified for WC 2002, semi-final in EC 2004 but not convincingly, round of 16 in WC 2006 (the notorious match against Portugal)). In fact the trend continued: in the 2010 world cup both France and Italy were disastrous (both ended last in their groups), while the Netherlands played the final. What I am trying to say is that in spite of convincingly beating France and Italy the Dutch were maybe not as good as we thought in that tournament, since France and Italy were in decline. That makes it altogether easier to understand how the Netherlands lost against a good team with an inspiring coach who was happy to accept the underdog position.
13 years ago. wow still remember. was a 12 year old kid. I remember the Turkey vs Croatia game. I was rooting for Turkey and it was the last moments of the game my father stood up and went to sleep and i told my father that i am gonna stay till the end and miracle happened... Turkey scored in the very last moment of the game. back then evertyhing was good....... good childhood memories.. btw no one dominated football at that time playerwise... it was fun to watch football at that time. it feels like football has changed.. i do not know how it changed but it surely changed a lot. the golden era of football from 2002-2008.
Russia under Hiddink didn't make it to the 1/8 finale in WC 2014, Russia under Cherchesov made it to the 1/4 finale of WC 2018. See the difference. Russian national football team changed a lot.
watching this euro2008 as 10 year old Turkish boy was amazing. it showed me at a young age that anything is possible in football. we were 2-0 down in 75min against the Czech Republic and turned it around to then one up that performance and beat Croatia by penalties after conceding a goal in the 119th min and scoring in the 120th. to this day my fondest memory regarding football.
Guys guys guys, im from Turkey. We was so good in this tournament. We are everytime came to back also havent chance in semi final. If we have little chance, i know we will be champion. Im so proud 🇹🇷
Not sure if this is true or not but here's a story I remember hearing at the time. After Turkey's defeat against Portugal in the first game, Turkey's coach called the players' mothers and apparently, the mothers yelled at them because of their poor performance. From that moment onward Turkey was phenomenal. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Turkey's game against Germany was even brighter in retrospective because Turkey was missing several players due to injury and cards.
8:58 Classic Wesley Sneijder stuff! Still very unbelievable that despite always having a team full of qualities, Netherlands are yet to win a World Cup!
I watched every game from that Tournament and my opinion is that Spain,Croatia,Russia and the Netherlands were the best Teams at that Euro. Spain was untouchable und played beautiful football. The game against Italy in the QF was the only bad game but both teams played very careful. Croatia faced England and Russia in the Qualifiers for that Euro and ended up being the Group Winner defeating England 2x 2:0 and the Legendary 2:3 away win on Wembley and knocked England out. They dominated Russia but both games ended 0:0. They struggled a bit against Austria but outclassed Germany 2:1 and Turkey. However their best player Eduardo at that time was injured. Croatia dominated Turkey even hit the bar and missed a lot of chances then they scored the goal in 119th minute but received the equalizer in the 122 minute and lost on penalties. Hardest loss in Croatian History and absolutely unlucky. Russia as i said tied with Croatia and also defeated England 2:1 during the qualifying. Then they destroyed Netherlands 3:1 and this Netherlands destroyed World Cup Winner Italy 3:0 und World Cup runner up France 4:1! Insane Euro!. Turkeys run was incredible but they had more luck instead of skill. Lost against Portugal, barely defeated Switzerland in the last minutes, Cech made 2 incredible mistakes and gave Turkey the ticket for the Quarterfinales. In the QF Turkey was outclassed by Croatia and they had their second shot on goal in the 122 minute which was lucky again and helped them win the penalties. However they had to play without a lot of First 11 Players but the first time in that tournament Turkey played great football it was against Germany however it was rüstüs fault that germany won. Still Turkey played with a lot of passion. Germany was lucky as well. They defeated a weak Poland, lost against Croatia and barely defeated Austria however their only great performence was against Portugal 3:2. Turkey played better in the SF but Germany was lucky because of Rüstüs faults. Other than that it was a great Euro!

@@yasarbaskale2341 the entire world was against France that day except some Serbs may be. We played well but the referee did his job as well, we will never have such generation again, this is sure.
@@mike8966 so true. The referee made a hold up. But like you say. Croatia was the champions in the eyes of the world. What a generation. Stay playing like that. With Portugal the most attractive football in Europe.

The amazing friendship between Fernando Torres and David Villa....love it

Euro 2008, The Sole tournament that needed VAR lol
The English whinging after Lampard's goal vs Germany in WC 2010 was ruled out is the primary reason why we have goal-line tech and VAR now.

Omg Turkey was actually a good team.
Lmao France terrible
And Spain.. The team haters love in secret
Haha world cup 2010 was even worse for France
turkey was ok, but how good was Croatia, they were above england and russia in their group, then they rocked eurogroup with germany, and only some turkey equalizer goal that came out of nowhere stopped Croatia from semifinal, final, winning?
@@alt4080 mmmmm debatable

This is the best international tournament I’ve had the privilege of watching in my lifetime, goals galore. Loved euro 2008

This was probably the best tournament I have seen. So many stacked teams and wonderful attacking football.
And some years before 2002 as well, remember the world cup in 1998 with a large amount of great players and memorable matches.
OMG PERFECT PERFOMANCE TURKEY🇹🇷

David Villa literally unstoppable in thjs tournament, what a player.
watching this euro2008 as 10 year old Turkish boy was amazing. it showed me at a young age that anything is possible in football. we were 2-0 down in 75min against the Czech Republic and turned it around to then one up that performance and beat Croatia by penalties after conceding a goal in the 119th min and scoring in the 120th. to this day my fondest memory regarding football.
Guys guys guys, im from Turkey. We was so good in this tournament. We are everytime came to back also havent chance in semi final. If we have little chance, i know we will be champion. Im so proud 🇹🇷
Spain would of demoulished turkey if they faced each other.

Not sure if this is true or not but here's a story I remember hearing at the time. After Turkey's defeat against Portugal in the first game, Turkey's coach called the players' mothers and apparently, the mothers yelled at them because of their poor performance. From that moment onward Turkey was phenomenal.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Turkey's game against Germany was even brighter in retrospective because Turkey was missing several players due to injury and cards.
its not true
@@perfectmanhehehe8115 Its true lol you weak
8 players could not play on the last game.
8:58 Classic Wesley Sneijder stuff! Still very unbelievable that despite always having a team full of qualities, Netherlands are yet to win a World Cup!
What a tournament ? unforgettable ...
Turkey's national team matches still on my mind
Can you do 2012 aswell?
Sidste 5 minutter af I hope he can
Looking at this in 2019 in they say Ronaldo was in his prime 2008. Longest prime of all time

17:12 this Dutch team was full of superstars, but the russians just made fool out of them. Never seen anything comparable before or since in an international football tournament
Turkey played with a lot of heart and passion and i loved it. But Russia played very attractive and intelligent football. What they did to Netherlands was utter murder. It's only logical that Spain defeated them twice
