I don’t do anything with surveying, but as a real estate person these videos are so interesting and I’ve learned a ton. Keep up the good work Rami. Ps. I wish these methods would be used in Arlington and Alexandria, Virginia. There’s be a TON of challenges (no fly zones, FedSec, etc) but there’s tons of historical surveying issues.
Many thanks, Rami, for this very interesting research - and the excellent paper linked above. A comparison with the out-of-the-box DJI RTK system would be very insightful. Looking forward to more.
I'm new to all this. I bought Polaris S100 receiver and tested it at around 60km of the government base station, and even though I got a FIX resolution (barely, I had to be very still), all the coordinate was off by a few meters. This was also at a location pretty much in a forest. So I got plan to return with a second S100 and setup a local base source less than 2km away, and try it again and see if I get better result, or the tree will really make it useless. (They were done with 30sec observation, and min of 24 satellite, PDOP of 1.2). Note I've tested it within 30km from the base station and no obstruction, and it worked perfectly.
Hey Rami, congrats on your placement of control. The pattern is exactly what I explain to people as one of the best geometry formats. Personally, I normally have the 5 GCPs, then add check points with no constraints to get an accurate interpretation of the results. Thoughts?
Damn I hate DJI for not making the mapping feature available to P4P regular user !!! I got the P4P v2 with the on screen attach controller, and I couldn't find anyway to do this ! I tried to install custom software, but DJI lockout local access control to the drone from external app. With older version, you could USB connect the remote to itself and be able to do it, but they removed that feature. I regret buying the integrated screen !!!
Yeah the screen is a problem but even with the other version like I have I don't think we can do PPK because our drones don't produce the Rinex file or timestamp file.
This is actually pretty useful. In Brazil, despise the best efforts, there are always a little mistakes, specially in rural zones, that causes field. it is a little bit expensive to always hire a cartographits or ask for the land-survaylance technician to redraw the borders. With PPK, it might be possible to lower the amount i actually need to ask for a third party - as a lawyer. Nice videos, my firend, congratulation.
Great video, Rami. You have an amazing ability to concisely present salient information without going into superfluous detail. I use Emlid RS2s and a Mavic 3M, and I enjoy watching your videos because I like comparing my workflows against yours and considering the impacts of any differences. What do you think about Emlid Studio not accepting precise ephemerides files (like rtklib can)?
1. how about if you dont place the base on (benchmarked) known cordinates? then when to enter in emlid studio base cordinates? 2. what if there is ntrip network you use for base input and keep log will that be helpful? in both cases what is base output setting?
Please Rami, do a video about using GNSS and Total Station and how to make them to work together aftwards using combined scale factors? The only way I know it's using GNSS site calibration, but for that you must have previously total Station control points. Any way to convert UTM coordinates to ground and still keep them tight together? Thanks
We are just getting started with an Autel EVO II V3 RTK drone and using emlid studio for post-processing (PPK). In your video you mention updating the base's coordinates to the "correct/true" coordinates from the NGS datasheet, however you don't show how to do so. You can see in your video that those boxes are greyed out meaning you can't change them. We are going to attempt to update the RINEX file from our base with the "corrected" coordinates before importing into Emlid Studio, however these coordinates in the RINEX file are XYZ cartesian coordinates requiring yet another conversion using NGS tools. This seems like a really awkward way to go about this and I am wondering if there is a better way. Why can't Emlid Studio un-grey those boxes and let us change the coordinates? Why doesn't Emlid Studio also have coordinate system parameters setup with selection boxes and just allow us to choose to work in say State Plane Coordinates/NAVD88 elevations and key those numbers in directly rather than do all these conversions! AND, Emlid studio has no way to work with Orthometric (NAVD88) elevations, only ellipsoid elevations (no inputting of Geoid files to apply or at least a geoid seperation value to enter). How are you handling these issues? How do you end up with NAVD88 elevations? Do you handle the geoid seperation as a vertical offset value to apply in the photogrammetry software?
I am trying to do mapping with the M3E but my project sites are all in extremely remote areas in the Rocky Mountains that have no known points, no corrections network coverage and no cell service. Do you have a video tutorial that explains how to go about using an Emlid (and/or Propeller AeroPoints) as a base station with the M3E rtk to perform the proper workflow in the field and office to generate accurate maps? I also use Pix4d mapper and ArcGIS Pro just for reference.
Is it possible to do this with the mrk and obs files? The photos are geotagged and timestamped already, so what does the mrk and obs file contain that we don't have already? I realize Emlid Studio expects those files but it seems like it should be possible to do it without them, but perhaps with less accuracy. Or is it that the mrk file has more accurate timestamp data, and the Obj (rinex) file corrects for the center position of the sensor vs the gps center?
Congratulations, I would like to encourage to continue making this videos, next could be Lidar drone (just an Idea) One Question, is it possible to make this corrections with any other DJI drone? Thanks
But what I dont understand is: is the drone connected to the base over the monument like if it was an RTK station? How do you apply those corrections on the drone based on the station? what has one to do with the other?
You don't use GCP targets in vegetation unless its absolutely flat. Did you see how your rod goes below GCP target 1 about half an inch? Why didn't you put the target on the concrete 3 feet away?
@@RamiTamimi Thanks Rami. You and your channel are a great resource! I recently came across a post in a surveyor's group where someone came across a monument from 1815 that marks the baseline for the Louisiana purchase. Must be pretty exciting when you guys come across things it's like that 🙂 I wish I could post the pictures here but is TH-cam...
How much does the height matter with accuracy? Like you need to be measuring it 100% plumb and then level across to the actual height of the base but you kind of just wing it.
Any GNSS receiver can be used for PPK so long as it has the ability to log raw data. Remember, PPK doesn't require a connection between Base and Rover.
Hello sir, I am a topographer, I have 10 years of experience in topography and construction (training in Arabic and French). I am looking for a job in the field. (I'm new to the US and I don't speak English well)
My question about this video is: In wich cases is it necessary to use PPK? Can you give some examples when you have to use the PPK workflow? Thank you!
You know its gonna be a good day when Rami posts a new video! This was explained so well, good job man!
It's great to be back!
Very big thanks

Arlington and Alexandria gov is using it.
@@NoHarmDunn Glad to hear. Just had to deal with a property line dispute earlier this year.
Very nice presentation on PPK and the comparison to other methods, congratulations.

Still a great video! So as you’re not using the RTK function, can the PPk work with a cheaper used drone, like the Air s 2?

I'm not seeing it but are you averaging your GCP or just the one shot for like 3 epoc? Also I am super close to you. lol I fly out of NE Indiana.

it same for setting M3E drone?

can we have an MRK file with just a regular drone... like in my DJI mavic air drine?
Where do the Rinex and timestamp files come from?
Does the P4RTK produce those?
I was hoping I could do PPK with a regular P4P but I guess not😞
Anytime we plan a mission it automatically creates the observation and time stamp files. P4P unfortunately does not have this feature.

You can enter a slant height and the adjustment is made.

PPK is most affective for sites that require a very high level of accuracy mapping.
