Outstanding dedication on the build to your BIL Joe!! There's some smart, solid decision-making on things like those NEW panels, powdercoating the frame + suspension, plus all the new brightwork! Not at all an inexpensive build...I'm figuring about $12-15K in the parts alone! Probably saved $20K on labor! A gorgeous '67 Elkie!!
I recently paid $6K for a '68 Elkie that's 95% steel-- a real survivor. Factory buckets & console. YEAHHH, baby! Repainted back in the late '90s...factory "Sequoia Green". Paint's a little tired, but still has a great shine and looks good! Put a couple grand into some new parts. Also, currently building an era-correct, 1966 327c.i. to get rid of its awful 305c.i. from the late-70s. (Why would someone even DO that?!) Fortunately, it still has its solid TH400. Love the car, and at 66 yrs. old, there's nothing like tooling around in a classic that makes today's "melted jellybeans" look glaringly boring.

Wont be able to do this with late model trucks in 50 yrs...these will last forever. Looks like time was taken to make sure it wont rust through again!

My dream would be a 1st gen '59 or '60 but you can't touch them price wise. My dad brought a '59 home in pieces back around 1970 when i was a kid and he made a daily driver out of it. That's why i love them to this day. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

Right after our family 57 Chevy (brother's car) had just been stolen either , but?....That's the kinda BS she does, so....So yeah, TY for that comment. Great job Joe and everyone else 👍 I was impressed (NOT an easy thing to do 😁lol) and warm-hearted at the same time that another 2nd Gen ELCO 64-67 was SAVED 🙌 Workin on my 66 FACTORY 396 4spd EL CAMINO currently. JUST got er started up past Thanksgiving (with help from my gearhead cousin) and the rebuilt 454 sounds pretty darn good! (Original 396 is stashed away for a rebuild eventually 😏). Enjoy your 67! Happy Restoring and Cruizin! 😎👊🔥 JINO JAMES , aka Bob Falfa 😎

@@jamescon55 No big deal, anyone can see the yellowing in the paint plus some questionable sanding work. I got my love for Elcos when I was around 10 back in 1970 when my Dad brought home a 1st gen '59 in pieces and a engine donor car and spent the summer turning it into his daily driver. I've loved them ever since.

I just bought a 1966 El Camino in Eugene Oregon that is rust free. I haven’t seen any rust yet. I looked under the headliner and there is just light surface rust which is all I’ve found. I bought it because of that and it’s cheap price. 7800. It runs and drives and has several new pieces installed including new disc brakes and carpet. It’s straight too. I had to buy a bumper which it lacked. It needed new interior door panels. I have 2 66 Chevelles including 1 that is my first car which I’ve had 43 years and a convertible. Good luck!

Nice job that is a ton of work. Is all that tubing from Vintage air? wow.
Are those aftermarket or 66 quarter panels? Mine was way worse filled 2 5 gallon buckets full of bondo stripping it lol

Wow! I just bought a 1966 El Camino but it doesn’t have any rust that I’ve found which is why I bought it. It runs and drives and has new disc brakes installed. They weren’t available in 1966. It has new carpet and a few other things and no body damage that I’ve found and was cheaper than all of the other El Caminos I had seen.

I bought a 1966 El Camino in 1978 for 2k. I drove it for two years in High School.
327 4-speed. Muncie trans with Posi-traction year end. I could “chip” the tires in 1st,2nd, and 3 gears.
      That car was a blast!

Thanks for your comments! My Dad had a '59 he brought home in pieces and spent a summer when I was 9 or 10 building in our back yard including getting a donor car for the motor. Would love a '59 but this one popped up cheap (basically I bought the new motor and transmission from the guy and he threw in the rusty El Camino almost for free.) Up close the paint is terrible. My brother-in-law got ripped off by the first painter who took his money and skipped town after doing a shoddy job. Worst part is they didn't use a sealer before color and in spots you can see where it's yellowing from bleed through. Paint is thin in other places, too. Then he had to get a second painter to do the hood and doors and you can see the difference in the pictures. Needs a new paint job but I hate the idea of tearing it down again. I'm too old for that.

6 yrs later I drug a stripped shell, drivetrain gone and started over. 2nd guy never finished...1 mo after paint the roof blistered big time, nightmare getting him to redo.
Next time Ill block it out myself and spray it
No need to take it apart. Just drivec and enjoy nothings perfect.

@@jg24diecast41 Dont do it!! Wrap is still expensive and good luck removing it when they start going bad. Just block/wetsand it and shoot the paint it will be fine. MIne was ermine white orig which is kinda blah...was gonna use GM Summit white which is very sharp but the painter suggest DuPont base white..and he nailed it!! Bright, but has depth to it not reflective and really shows off the wetlook clear. Love it.
