There's a video out there from early in the Great Awakening that shows literally people dancing to this from all over the world in the streets, it's epic!
That spaceship is kind of their trademark. It goes with the type of futuristic music they play, and even have giant ships floating over the stage at concerts. They have about 200 songs! A deep rabbit- hole! Try 'Tightrope, 'Last Train to London', 'Twilight', 'Starlight'.
I'm a she, and your Dad pronounced my first name correctly, Yvette with an E, my surname is pronounced Ads-head 😄😄😄😄. Glad you enjoyed it. I saw them in concert a couple of years ago in Manchester, England, it was one of the best concerts ever. Telephone Line Live at Wembley stadium is fantastic too.
E.L.O have loads of great songs and Jeff Lynne is a genius. He sounds just as good in concert at 70+ as he did when they did the studio sounds. You should watch the flash mob versions of this song. They should play this if the pandemic ever finishes as it fits so well.
When Jeff is singing all the city names he sneaks in Shard End which is the area of Birmingham that he comes from: "LA, New York, Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Shard End and..."
it was the first ELO s song that emotioned me...In my country the big success was Last Train to London, but it didn t take my attention. All Over The World did. And from that moment I began to listen ELO and it became band number one.
You have to see "the world" dancing to this, it's fab. Also Telephone Line, Ticket to the Moon and here is the News are my absolute favourites. My dad's fave is Wild West Hero. Any, all, fine with me. You doing a good job guys, keep it up. Peace Love n music from East Coast of England (where it is cold, wet and windy). Mr Blue Sky, where are you???
Dude. You should have seen them live in concert. I saw them in 1979. The whole place was rockin from beginning to end. My pregnant cousin was up close dancing in her chair. I was in the nosebleed section. Best concert I've ever gone to
Great reaction guys, loved it 👍👍 The spaceship appeared first on the Out of the Blue album as a futuristic version of their band logo that appeared on the previous album A New World Record. That logo is based on a Wurlitzer juke box. The spaceship became synonymous with the band and is still used by the latest incarnation, Jeff Lynne’s ELO.
Terrific video! I think the first time ELO used the "spaceship" design was on the cover of a New World Record from 1976. It was designed by artist John Kosh & if you look carefully on the cover of NWR & split the space ship in two it is actually based on the old style Wurlitzer juke box with the curved top. On their 1977 album "Out of the Blue" the spaceship became beautifully stylized by the artist Shusei Nagaoka in a much more sci-fi fashion. In 1978 ELO did Wembly live & the whole band appeared in a huge spaceship which opened & closed & acted as the stage. The actual reason for the spaceship, I have no idea but many bands of the 70's featured sci-fi cover art. As a kid in the late 70's I became so fascinated by the ELO spaceship concept I wrote a short story called "The Musical Thing" which was basicially a massive spaceship which had the music of ELO as the engine sounds & everywhere the ship adventured it brought peace love & happyness to all. But hey! This was the 70's right LOL! I ditched the story by 1981 as I began to study for my exams, but I still find it fascinating. Thank you for this lovely video. If you get chance check out "I'm Alive" for the same album as All Over the World (Xanadu soundtrack) that is a great song too! xx
I love the short story you came up with and believe that has to be what powers the shop! Very cool. thanks for sharing that. I'll try to remember the "I'm Alive" title so we can react to it.
As for Xanadu's soundtrack, the album is one side Olivia Newton-John and one side ELO. The title track is on the ELO side because it is essentially an ELO song featuring ONJ, not the other way around. Written and produced by Jeff Lynne with the rest of the guys playing and singing backing vocals. There is a lesser known version sung by Jeff which is really cool.
Next ELO reaction you guys should do..... SHOWDOWN...! I think it's a really cool song and it just takes me some where that only ELO can.... Keep killing it fellas...🤙✌
The jukebox UFO just became the symbol for the band. Way back in the mid-to late 1970s, there was a wave of saucer chic I guess you could call it. To this day, the ELO stage usually has a flying saucer shape to it.
You want something mega orchestral and cinematically epic? Try the popular deep cut that Jeff played as a concert opener, “Tightrope”. It will blow your mind. In 1976, ELO’s New World Record introduced the famous colorful jukebox logo. For 1977’s Out Of The Blue, the same designer transformed the logo into a spaceship and created one of the most famous record covers ever. They didn’t repeat the spaceship on covers for the next 4 albums until they split up in 1986. The record company now loves using different versions of the spaceship on Greatest Hits and new albums because it has become so closely associated with ELO during their late 1970s domination. Not necessarily related to the spaceship, Jeff has always had slight SciFi themes running through his music since the beginning.
Yeah, a fun story to add on to what ChronoMATT said about the same album cover designer transforming the jukebox logo from ELO's '76 album into a spaceship for their '77 double album. That designer's son asked him one day to have a frisbee catch with him, and on his way out the door the designer had a bunch of big stickers of the logo lying around so he slapped one onto the frisbee. During that catch, watching the logo spin around, he got the inspiration to turn the logo into a spaceship for the new ('77) album cover he'd just been hired to design. So cool how stuff like that happens!
Next from ELO, I suggest, "Tightrope". It is, I daresay, the quintessential ELO song. Definitely use the Studio version. Thanks for exploring the amazing Electric Light Orchestra!
Technically the 1977 Out of the Blue album is "the" spaceship album. Lots other albums without it. But it came back in the 2000's releases especially best-of albums, as it is associated with their most recognized '70s staple.
E.L.O Is certainly a Great band, and I'm glad you fellas are reacting to them... It's the simple pleasures in life that all to often prove the finest...!!!🤙✌ These guys are just as good in real life as on their albums... What a great voice huh..?

The UFO iirc started out as the logo on the album A New World Record. I think its inspired by a jukebox/Wurlitzer type look. This was then morphed into a UFO for the cover of Out OF The Blue. The live tour also featured a giant saucer that they appeared out of. Really from then on the symbol stuck and has re-appeared time after time. I think the 2017 live at Wembley stadium show also featured a saucer at the top of the set.
'In Your Room' by Depeche Mode or 'In My Room' by The Beach Boys - two excellent songs you might want to check out. ELO are goats but not everything has to be big and all-encompassing. Sometimes small and intimate is required. Love your reactions.
From reddit: Not sure if there is any meaning or symbolism, but it is based on a 1946 Wurlitzer jukebox model 4008 speaker. /The spaceship itself doesn’t have any special meaning, the guy from United Artists that designed the logo on ANWR then turned it into a spaceship for OOTB. Awesome reaction!! You definitely need to check out ELO - Twilight with the Prologue intro. It might answer your UFO question. Or not. But it's my personal favorite since I was kid. Along with the whole Xanadu soundtrack..😁
When Jeff is name dropping the countries/places, the last one is Shard End, the area of Birmingham UK that ELO originate from. It goes “Monte Carlo, Shard End and……..”. You should try “Birmingham Blues” from the Out of the blue album.
A great reaction gents to a song that can't fail to get you moving and demonstrates another step change in the E.L.O sound when compared to their 70's stuff. "Tighrope" next please 👍😊
The UFO is ELO's ride. It represents the future and the musical boundaries that ELO pushed through a mixture of traditional and electronic instruments. While (in its day) Twilight was considered one of ELO's weaker pieces (???) it is now getting the love it deserves and further takes one on a musical adventure. I recommend looking up the video "Daicom IV Anime Video." They used ELO's song without permission, but that one video changed America's perception of Anime and influenced a generation of new movie makers, including the people who brought you The Matrix.
I'm a middle-aged heavy meatal lead guitarist and singer, but if I want to feel good, I either reach for Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" or anything from ELO, especially "Concerto For A Rainy Day".
When your dad said the song tittle is grand because it all over the world and said it “in my room” my first thought was you should listen to “in my room” by Depeche Mode and see the other side of the spectrum
Love the reaction.Has to be one of the most uplifting tracks of all time.

When Jeff is name dropping the countries/places, the last one is Shard End, the area of Birmingham UK that ELO originate from. It goes “Monte Carlo, Shard End and……..”. You should try “Birmingham Blues” from the Out of the blue album.
Great reaction to a brilliant song
The backing group on Olivia Newton John's version of Xanado is actually ELO.
Jeff lynne wrote Xanadu.
Xanadu is also a song by Rush. Awesome
You guys are so cute. What a beautiful son and father relationship 👍🥰. BTW I LOOOOVE ELO! ❤
A great reaction gents to a song that can't fail to get you moving and demonstrates another step change in the E.L.O sound when compared to their 70's stuff. "Tighrope" next please 👍😊
I agree with Tightrope. It has the most epic intro of all time!
You guys should have chosen the video on this one. It's a lot of fun. Great reaction. 😁🎸👍
ELO UFO three letter space, sci fi, out of this world
Yall gotta react to the video of this song. Talk about feel good. Everyone does a dance to this song all over the world
I was a kid when this came out..such a happy joyous song makes me wanna dance
Evil Woman, Livin Thing, Sweet Talkin Woman...
You should check out this song with the dancers in it. People of all ages an races just dancing to this song.
"Showdown" next please then "Strange Magic" and "Fire on High".
Oh, what a shame, that you did’nt watch the oficial video. Jeff is a genius.
Yay! More ELO!
If you watched XANADU then you should recognize this song. It was in the movie. Its the song that plays when they are in the shops trying on clothes.
It's been a long time since I watched it but I may go back and watch it.
Showdown is FIRE!!!
Jeff Lynne wrote 'pretty much' all of ELO's material, with the obvious exception of "Roll Over Beethoven" which has to be credited to Chuck Berry!
I'm a middle-aged heavy meatal lead guitarist and singer, but if I want to feel good, I either reach for Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" or anything from ELO, especially "Concerto For A Rainy Day".
You all need to react to "shine a little love ", the best elo song ever
You MUST check out Tightrope...your minds will be BLOWN,especially with the vocals and orchestration
When your dad said the song tittle is grand because it all over the world and said it “in my room” my first thought was you should listen to “in my room” by Depeche Mode and see the other side of the spectrum
Showdown! i guarantee you will love it!
The Beach Boys have a song called In My Room.
ELO Fire
