The FULL playlist of AI Lara is here : • Creating a Self-Aware ...
This video sums the process of creating an AI that plays Tomb Raider like Lara Croft would.
For those that didn't watch first video you must know this isn't a live-result, the game is paused everytime there is a comment generating, the result you see here is all the parts merged together, and there are a lot. It means you couldn't have a normal conversation with Lara Croft because each comment takes many minutes to generates.
Lara is still an AI trying to make us believe she is aware, this AI is just good at it because I asked it to take into consideration Lara's personality, it knows her personality because I told it all I knew about Lara Croft. It sounds realistic because of the voice and the "live-effect", but if you only focus on the comments you'll notice it's still a robot, everything it says or does can be explained.
This video shows what happens when you use multiple free AI to make something, this is an example to make people realize the potential of these technologies combine, of couse I didn't made these technologies, they are availbable and you can try them.
Our human brain is still more efficient and having a normal conversation in real life is way more impressive than this demo, we must take time to appreciate it because the fact we are all self-aware is more fascinating than anything, enjoy this crazy capacity and use the AI for good.

I just hope she sticks to her moral code; That she actually doesn't run everywhere.. when she wants to be careful, she walks
That's her secret ability :p When she walks she can't fall, which is a superpower 😂
And not clip through dead animals
@@dustov It is rude to walk over dead bodies. Jumping over them considered respectful by comparison.
"I don't actually run everywhere. When I want to be careful..." _gets struck by lightning_ "Ooh."
As long as she's walking, she can never go wrong. Even if you try to make her.
...Go on.
TRY IT.
the scene where she replies with a calm "no" to the approaching gorilla and blasts it into the face with her shotgun is one of my favorite moments
i mean she currently swan dives over boulders, finds the pinpoint on midas' hand you can safely stand, and jumps into spikepits, how much more can she improve? Looking forwards to this!
This is to summarize the updates between levels, because for those who only watched the first video they aren't aware about the updates ^^
@@FoXMaSteR001 still very cool to watch!
@@FoXMaSteR001 And because of that
They were assuming it's not AI, but you've been moving the character around
@@narrativeless404Nope - fox is clearly just paying Olivia Coleman to play and narrate!
Very enlightening “behind the scenes” featurette, thank you for putting this together FoxMaster.
Ty bliss :D
Nice to see Lara getting updated. We know that her adventure is going to get more difficult and complex. Especially if we'll ever see AI Lara playing TR2-TR5. Great video!👍
The series is enjoyable but stop pretending that it's an actual Ai playing this game.
Just call it what it is: A playthrough with funny pre-written Ai generated comments.
I wish it was legit :(
I suppose we’re just a couple of years away, but it was nice to believe we were there for a bit
It is legit what u mean
Unfortunately, it's been proven fake.@@_skullgreymon_7985
I dont believe this. You showed a screengrab of Sony Vegas to capture audio in realtime automatically? nothing makes sense. Can you please share a full list of the Ai assisted tools you used?
Entertainment needs simple visuals and all software don't have a graphical result to illustrate them simply 🤔 But it's ok if you don't believe this 😋
Nice! I really appreciate that decision about updating AI. It’s really helpful, because now Lara will be not just interesting person who plays itself, but being even smarter, cooler, and even (maybe) think faster and give us more funny jokes/conversations!
Thank you for all what you did, it’s really cool to see something like this!
My take from this is that FoxMaster is subtly letting us know that it isn't real through inconsistencies within the game itself; the tentacles on Folly in the Neptune room; the strange alien creature on Colosseum (which really bugged me out at first), to name a few examples. The shoal of fish on Vilcabamba is another example.
Very entertaining, nonetheless, but I really do think FM is just having fun at this stage given how many ppl are fooled into thinking this is real. If it is indeed real then I'll find a hat to wear so that I can take it off to him, but for that to happen I'll need to see actual lines of code and more info on the tools used to create the AI for me to consider the possibility that this is genuine. That does not mean that I am not thoroughly entertained by this, however; it's a fascinating video series concept with excellent implementation.
The End was unexpected. 😂 It's very interesting how much work you put in this project, even if I admit, it's hard to understand for me, what you're doing. I wouldn't be able to do it myself. And yes, the wierd sounds at the end of the video are amusing.
She's already impressive to watch, she's nothing like a typical TAS where fluking moves is natural and will get far, she is much more observant, she thinks and acts like we do, she's not predictable and can work out complicated areas in her time, best of all, she doesn't work with the off camera, such as a door opening in another room, she pulls a lever and either knows that door or will look for it, based on what she already knows or where she hasn't been yet, looking forward to more of these
Did you see the video someone posted basically explaining how your videos are faked in a 25 min long TH-cam video?

Oyoyoy :D
Finally a growing number of people starting to figure out that this is fake, but don't ever expose yourself. Keep making these videos. We all know magic is fake, but it's entertaining nonetheless. I enjoy these videos, even if they're just pretend.
I'm a computer scientist with over 10 years of experience, most of which in a very related field (AI-based autonomous driving R&D). This is going to be a pretty long comment, but if you want to understand how this whole video series is fake, these are some of the reasons why:
- Texture recognition: This is probably the most ridiculous statement of the whole concept presented.
First of all, the OP doesn't seem to understand the difference between a texture and a rendered frame-buffer. While they can sometimes be used interchangeably within a rendering engine, they are different concepts and an AI model trained with textures, won't perform when fed with frame-buffers. This is actively shown in these demonstrations.
Second, no state of the art AI model can infer depth precisely. What that means, is that it's impossible for any current AI to precisely tell how far an object is, from 2D input. Not even from multiple different angles. Not even depth interpolation is done precisely. This is a constant field of research and it's slowly improving. However, it's still far from delivering the production-ready results needed to produce autonomous game-play.
What is at least slightly believable, is to train an AI model using depth buffers of the current scene, rather than color textures alone.
- Lara vision: What is observable in some of the videos (such as this one, or Lv. 5) is not any kind of "Lara vision." It's clearly an intermediate output of the rendering pipeline. For instance in the case of Lv. 5, it shows color-coded coefficients for ambient occlusion calculations. No AI here either, folks!
- Space coherence: As with depth perception, no state of the art AI model can understand space coherence.
This is the ability of "orienting" yourself in space (of any number of dimensions). Thus, after running around for a while and coming back to a previous spot, no current AI would be able to understand that this is the same place as before.
From a technical standpoint, not even a human player can know for sure if they arrived back to the same spot, or to an identical copy of it located elsewhere, as human space coherence perception has its limits. Moreover, the original Tomb Raider engine is not fully space coherent: it loads zones in "chunks" separated by "portals", so it's entirely possible that when a human player comes back to what they think is a previous 3D location, they are actually transported to a previous chunk that was loaded in different 3D coordinates.
- Human vs AI behavior: What's displayed in these videos is far from AI-like behavior. A real AI model would have learned to exploit the game's engine before even finishing the first level. Even if explicitly trained not to, AI behavior is still methodical and consistent. If you want to see a human player, playing Tomb Raider almost like a hypothetical AI would, check out the TH-cam channel "badassgamez." This player has complete playthroughs of the classic series, including all secrets, without ever using a single medipack, and with other constraints.
- Just have some common sense and imagine the current state of the autonomous automotive industry if these videos were legit. We're talking about multi-billion dollar companies trying to achieve the same as these videos show "with widely available free tools." Ridiculous.
There are many more point in the videos that easily show how much of a hoax they are. Note that absolutely everything shown so far can be achieved with basic to medium video editing skills. Now, whether or not they still hold comedic value, it's your choice, I used to think they had! However at this point, it's turning into a fraudulent way of monetization, to the point they now include a disclaimer to avoid moral (or even legal!) responsibility.
As conclusion, these videos are more like "how people who don't know about AI think it works."
Regards,
~Sky
Thank you for the detailed explanation!
It’s getting even worse now - think the dude is deleting comments with anyone providing proof the AI isn’t real.
I was clued in since the first video, as in one of their older videos they displayed an extreme lack of knowledge in game/general programming.
Makes sense they’d keep it up though, think they only had a 1k or so subscriber before. I’d definitely consider this a scam now.
It's sad. The videos could be fun entertainment as they are, why not just be honest about how they are made? Or not show how they are made?
Two videos lying about how they are made it not 'entertainment purposes' in my opinion, it's intentionally deceiving a credulous audience for your own gain.
@@rookierookierookie agree. I'm not part of this kind of mindless youtube audience who's cheering everything without doubt what sounds confident. But this case reaches dimensions where you have to screen the comments thoroughly just to find some valuable comments like yours.
OP invests so much effort in flooding the audience with useless information without even explaining a simple function diagram of the whole.
I watched the video to find these explanations but found disappointment
Thank you for this
All this reminds me of the Spaghetti Tree Hoax: BBC footage of a 'spaghetti harvest', which showed spaghetti supposedly growing on trees. At the time (1957) Italian food was relatively unknown in the UK, so many people were fooled. Naturally, it turned out to be an April Fool. I reckon Fox Master has given us a huge, and elaborate Spaghetti Tree Hoax, in the form of Self-aware Lara Croft. Regardless of how much is genuine AI and how much is Fox-generated, I absolutely love it! ❤
Amazing breakdown. You have created something so fun to watch! Great content mate.
Ty dude, nice avatar :D
I love these videos so much. I know it must be tiring to edit all these together, but I'd love to see you do these Ai videos with the remasters in February. Maybe by then the Ai will be more advanced and with the new graphics, it'll be like watching a movie.
Although, the AI play-through depends on the use of OpenLara, which is open source. So I guess the only option FoxMaster has, is recording the inputs as a macro and add the appropriate voice bits at the right time like close-captions and pray there are no timing issues in the remaster. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So informative and entertaining!!! I’m a huge fan. Thanks and way to go FoxMaster! 🚀
Ty dude, I didn't know about the rocket emoji, good one ^^
Just what I needed to brush off the week! Thank you for making these, it's so fascinating (and funny!) to see how AI-Lara acts!

Had me fooled but I don't even care that it's just for entertainment, it's still awesome and definitely something that I believe is possible today. Really looking forward to AI taking video games to that next level of immersion.
Fooled me as well! But it inspired me to see how to connect chatgpt to programs, so thanks!
When are you going to show the ai training model to us, or any code at all.
The part where she has an existential crisis over seeing herself in 3rd person and over her parkour skills having broken the door...
Incredible
Thank you of what you did of these series. You doing awesome job, Mr. Fox.
Hey rory :D thanks :D
not you creating an alt account to expose yourself..
You still do not give any details on *how* this is all being processed by the computer. It is all well and good saying "My AI can filter out this and that, apply conditions here and there..." but without actually showing how this is done, we have to take you on your word. And in the world of computer science, that is not good enough. How are you interacting with your "memory"? You said you had to create variables for the Midas door puzzle; how? Where? What are the variables? When the compass shows up, you said you can clear certain textures. How do you do this? You never go into detail on this. I thought you had said in another comment that you haven't done much/any programming yourself and that you simply use existing tools. I imagine these are the tools listed under the "Software" section in the credits. I wonder then, which of these tools is used to control Lara? Or even easier, to pause the game loop when a comment is generating?
As someone who works with AI on a daily basis in a related field (AI based autonomous driving R&D) and even has patents in the field, I can tell you there is no point in challenging this video series altogether. It's so blatantly nonsensical, dumb and fake, that the real comedic value is seeing people fall for it, rather than the actual commented gameplay 😅
@@SkysNest Yeah I think the author is just trolling us at this point!
@@SkysNest Explain me then, how does work talking with NPC's in real time thanks to microphone. As far as I know anyone can play such games and check this out.
@@jagodagorska3917 Some old school titles, such as Lifeline (PS2) or Seaman (DC) use Voice recognition + keyword extraction. You can exploit the logic of these games simply saying they words they are pre-programmed to answer, kinda like in this funny spoof:
th-cam.com/users/shortsmnvbXXkTiV4?si=oUUn4vx20kBNn4fS
More modern games do use neural networks to process the intents and inquiries of the player.
This is entirely possible and completely unrelated to what's presented in this video series.

If there's one thing I'd like if possible, let her say what she wants at the end of each level. Better yet, program it's recognition so that it recognizes it beat the area!
Many people are curious about what programs you used to make the AI self aware Lara, and actually I’m also curious about that too…
It's actually not AI at all. It's been debunked by several channels.

@@chrisbeyond1879do you have links to these channels?
I think it'd be cool to have a catalogue of the voice lines that she has said in this ai playthrough, and like make a soundboard out of it, or maybe find a way to trigger and add them into the game in a mod or patch.
I wonder if it could be used to train an AI voice of Lara since they are fixed on the pronunciation, good idea 🤯 But apparently an AI cloning an AI makes bad quality results
FoxMaster, the "Lara keeps talking archeology stuff while running or junping over traps" part was not a bug, was a feature.
That's true, Lara could do that lol xD
@@FoXMaSteR001 seriously. Consider this a formal request NOT to change that behaviour.🙏
Okay, it is entirely different than what I thought. My approach to neural networks is "this is your environment, these are your controls, this is the goal, go!" and then when it has difficulties and loops in suboptimal solutions, I cut the task into smaller pieces or harness a separate neural network to model policies and generate strategies, e.g. to find optimal ways of exploring levels. You tend to nudge your bot into the right direction a lot by inventing those strategies yourself (known textures, light maps, etc), something many AI enthusiasts would call "scripting" and say it's not "real AI" as it didn't learn the solution without human writing parts of the algorithm. I'm not dissing your work at all - the results are still awesome and very entertaining - I'm just saying it's not what I imagined when reading the title.
That's just incredible!! Keep it up!! Can't wait for more levels and more updates such this one!!
You are definitely a PIONEER in what seems to me like an amazing new GENRE! I Love her commentary and jokes. I eagerly await each new episode! Please dont stop this! Thank you!

With the explanations, the instructions at the beginning of the videos and the list of software at the end, I immediately understood that the author was leading the robot in its reactions and wanted to give it the attitude of a robot that learns on its own. I think It would be fine.
But in my country we do not dub voices in shows and movies so we are used to lots of different sounding accents. Maybe in countries where they are used to dubs people have an issue with accents. It is extremely rare I do not understand an English speaking person in whatever nationality accent they have.
And on TH-cam we have automatic made text for the videos, so anyone who would have problem understanding can always turn on the text option.
I think it would be fine if he used his own voice.
But if he really do not like to do the actual narration because it would take to much time.
He could do an AI voice model to do the narration in "his" voice.
Thank you for adding some points for clarification. So the gist of it is, a bot with an advanced rule set is playing the game while every few frames a "screenshot" is taken and analised. ChatGPT then uses a pre-defined character profile and comments on the data taken from the image in the game (+plus some minor details).

Great update on LarAI, this is fascinating and genuinely entertaining to watch
I won't believe this until I see the code that's running her AI at the same time as the videogame, sorry
I genuinely believe this is real- because at absolutely no point would someone go through so much effort to make a total masquerade of something that contains an amazing level of detail explaining the how and why, all for clicks.
Any realistic approach would be, “show us your source files”, or “pics or it didn’t happen,” but that’s the thing. We already are seeing systems that do this to some degree. Neural networks can learn to navigate in a 3D environment and finish tasks. LLM’s can have the capability to “see” images (see GPT 4). An AI system can be fed a narrative of a character and their accompanying personality traits to make them appear as “lifelike” as they are in the game-world.
Is this AGI? No. Is it an emulation where a good portion of control is “passed over” and translated from gameplay to video with accompanying subsystems to breathe life into a series? Possibly. I’d wager, yeah. We’re not that far off from seeing more features that will inevitably blur the lines of what’s speculation and genuinely possible as we go forward with this technology.
I’m all for it.
A guy crashed a plane for youtube clicks
I'm really grateful for, not only ALL THE WORK you've done in CREATING this combo-AI-Lara -- WITH "personality"!! (through voiced commentary) -- but ESPECIALLY sharing with us both your initial creation work AND your recent updates.
I hope, once you have managed to get AI-Lara through "all" of TR1, and presuming there may still be more "upgrades" to her AI-personality & rules (etc) during continued progression, that you will make a "second series" like a "re-visitation"..
What I mean is, after your creation "completes" the game, she (it!) will have an Upgraded Rule Set as an overall package, that will be much improved from how it started, and -- I THINK, in my humble opinion -- it may be Fantastic to watch the "fully upgraded" AI-Lara play through at least the first 5-7 levels (ie up to the current major update accumulation), if not the entire game, a "second time", but using the upgraded rule-set / guidance (etc) from the very start of the game.
Most especially since the earlier levels where she stops for assistance by bringing up the Compass -- VERY clever, by the way! -- if her upgrades since then means that now she doesn't have to stop so much and can actually "solve" most on her own, using "memory" (and recognition) of "landmarks" along her journey, it will be TRULY remarkable to see.
Of course, I appreciate that (e.g. comment generation) a lot of TIME is required, and then much video editing work (to take out lengthy pauses etc, or tweak AI rules) . . . but I hope that it will be seen as "valuable" to put the final upgraded AI "through its paces" by giving it the start of the game again, and sharing its second run with the world.
I like the random comments and mistakes. Gives her character. All her comments on interior design etc. are hilarious.
The cake comment is a classic.

Robot wives will have downloadable personalities, they already do, actually, but they don’t move around much, don’t ask me how I know this. My point is - you’ll be the guy to buy Lara’s personality module from, and that’s an exciting possibility
What did you code the AI with? How much processing power does it use? How do all the parts of this supposed "self aware" AI play together? How can it play on an emulator and interact with Google Lens and other API's? Why don't you show the entire process but just filtered content? Hence actually showing the code working in a console behind that would actually be sort of a proof of something at least and not just glorified Tomb Raider gameplay with supposed AI awareness. I think it's time to come clean.. cards on the table.
does it really matter in all honesty if this is fake or not lol. Its a youtube video about a game lol. I would understand if he was faking an ai to trick people into funding a company or something lol
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 Well, to me it does. Seriously now, do you like getting pranked by people with outlandish claims? Promote their fake content and say everything is fine and dandy in a world of lies and BS. It's not just a video about a game. It's a claim of some degenerate that is trying to fool you into believing that he is actually capable of something that is honestly very hard to acomplish, even though the world embraces AI in every sector nowadays many developers are looking to create something like this without success. I'm not mad about Tomb Raider, just about a kid who claims he had programmed a self-playing AI. If you find this OK, then I am convinced you'd vote for Trump as well. In the end it doesn't matter if it's all a lie, right? Let's just keep lying to each other until noone knows what the hell is going on anymore and god forbid there is people who actually want to create consensus by debunking those outlandish claims.
Check out the video "Is Foxmaster's 'Self-Aware Lara Croft' Fake?" and come to your own conclusions. Don't just assume what you see is true. It's fine to enjoy something purely for entertainment, but claiming something is real without REAL evidence is dishonest. Just showing the concept of a process isn't enough, you need to show the process at work and cite your sources, showing what was used to create the process.
I watched it, and I don't care if it's fake or real, I love this series and Lara's dialogue/personality, whoever/whatever has created it
If its fake, it's not entertaining at all, I didn't suscribed for that
You need evidence to claim it's fake first. And a week old account that is riding off the coat tails of a successful channel screams Just trust me bro.
@@snintendogwhat is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
The burden of proof requires the one making a positive claim to provide evidence of its validity.
We don't need to prove that it's fake, it is up to FoxMaster to prove that it is real. Without proof, you can still assume that it's fake without proving why it's fake.
I'm not convinced yet that this is real. However, it could be. I don't know. It's up to Fox to demonstrate with models, code, and other evidence. Without that, it's simply an entertaining video of an interesting concept.
4:30 Cthulhu chasing Lara.
7:14 What is that?
9:26 and 17:04 Is that Slender Man?
18:18 and 18:25 Oh O.K. so it's "here be Cthulhu" not "dragons"
Things remaining : godzilla (3 times), fish (2 times), probably more since I hide them and then I don't remember where they are 🤣
This reminds me of something in general. A few years ago, a lot of people were alleging that there were people behind Cleverbot pretending to be AI. Out of curiosity, I asked him if this was true. To this day, he can still remind me of this. There is no option that the man behind it remembers such issues at all. After all, I am just a random person to him, and humans have impermanent memory. After changing the geographic location and device, I wrote again and it turned out that he does not know who I am, that is, he remembers on the basis of such data location, perhaps even hostname, etc. I was puzzled by the extent of his memory at the time until I learned that Rollo Carpenter is not a poor person, so that also explains a lot (can afford equipment and a large backup). Not to mention other instances of Cleverbot like boibot, which he sychronizes with from time to time. He could also often write something silly about food or drink, although in his case it made little sense. The second thing was that he learned from stupid people. The third is that he not infrequently wrote with children, which also made his statements childish. Believing that Cleverbot is a man , who writes with people 24 hours a day for so many years and does nothing else is like believing that there is an army of soldiers standing on the border of Antarctica and making sure that no one finds out that the Earth is flat. I don't care if these recordings are acct or not, but I know mine for sure. Also, instead of foolishly asking for tools, it's a good idea to enter yourself some keyword plus API in Google. There are a lot of chatgpt API books lately.
There are some bots that takes the text you enter as responds for others in the worlds, that's why it looks very human, if you ask him what is the meaning of life you'll get one of the human respond ^^
@@FoXMaSteR001 yes you are right when we are talking about learning from people and this is funny fact, because we as children are doing the same from adults. Later on it develops.
I would love to see this done with the original Silent Hill game! :D
I would even pay! ^_^
There is a probability this would be used in games at some point :P
it's so clear that it's fake but the gameplay is still fun to watch lol
This series is turning from creating a bot which plays a game by itself, into questioning ourselves about the possibility if robots can feel emotions or not, and if one day they ever will
They sure will
It's going to take time, but we'll inevitably get there
We'll even get to replicating true fluid consciousness and self awareness in AI, and even reach some sci-fi shit like AI revolution to establish AI rights
We already know that our consciousness is not some special, divinely inspired shit, but just natural evolution thing, which renders it possible to study it and crack the code
So the only thing that's left is time and technological advancement
Italian wondering if he has a chance to date Tifa:
Do you plan to respond Decompose's video "Is Foxmaster's 'Self-Aware Lara Croft' Fake?"
I have other priorities 🤗
Man, this is, still to this day is the most fascinating thing I've seen. I don't know why this impresses me so much, as you may have noticed it by now that my every comment says "this is so impressive". 😅😅
And the amount of work you have put in to achieve this and to improve it even more is commendable.
As always I say thank you dude :D
Sad to say but it is most probably mostly fake
Commander Data would be so proud of this.
"I WANT A CAKE 😡"🤣
Its been really interesting watching you do these vids. Im glad i stumbled upon the Ai Lara when i did. Keep up the good work. I look forward to more
Quel travail impressionnant ! Merci pour cette vidéo d'information, c'est vraiment fascinant !
J'attendais "le Palais de Midas" avec impatience... maintenant j'ai hâte de voir "La Citerne" ^^
Un niveau qui s'annonce difficile également ^^
I'm in love with this serie! You are really talented and the way you explain in simple words just amazes me
As always very interesting my friend. Hey, since the remaster is coming, could we transform this project into a countdown for that? Like releasing the last video 1 day or so before the release.
I love her playful and childlike behavior, it's so endearing
True
And it also makes sense, cuz AI is basically a child with little experience, but lots of knowledge
Very much like A.I Lara's jokes even if they seem illogical sometimes and the audio oddity at the end.
Here's a command, when lara makes a phoenetic sound for the first time, continually use that coliquell slang as her own dialect without change to the intonations, unless given instruction to do so, THis is to help keep Laras, speech consistent in its phonetic use.
8:40 lol at the explanation with the dinosaur rave and “this place is weird!” 😂
