I once read that the definition of anxiety is "fear of an imagined future". I remind myself of that in times when I'm anxious. Also the MA advice of "you don't have to have an opinion about everything" is carried in my back pocket every day! ❤
Love this.
Amazing:)
You don’t have to have an opinion…. That’s my favorite one 💭🎙️
How great!
I first read Mediations very young and it absolutely shaped me. The lesson of caring about your own opinion of yourself more than others' really helped me as a teenager. I was able to be freed of a lot of the external-facing "finding yourself" that my friends went through.
I wish I had read it as a youngin… this book should be a requirement for all schools so we have better humans
I also like a quote from Meditations that goes “A better wrestler, but not a better citizen, a better person, a better resource in tight places, a better forgiver of faults” (7.52). It reminds me that we must be better versions of ourselves than yesterday yes, but we should be wary of what we're getting good at. That we can become exemplary to a million other things, but we forget to become a better person of virtue. We should continuously ask ourselves, am I putting my time into what would actualy make me a better person as a whole?
Bringing MA and others wisdom forward in time…Thanks for all you are doing! 🎉 All the best!
I could've avoid a lot of problems if I practiced these often, but I learned after I made the mistakes. Maybe I could've made better choice, but I made the best ones with the knowledge I had at the time, I practiced some of the Stoic virtues whenever I had the chance to, I know I tried my best to do good in the world. So I'm thankful and I'm grateful.
I find these teachings solidify my faith in my Christian Beliefs , they provide me an added energy benefit
Love this! I am so grateful for this book. It changed my life in so many positive ways❤️
I don’t have to have an opinion is part of me now! Use it all the time! Works exceptionally well!
The last one is hugely important. Not all thoughts are our own.
One quote I try hard to live by:
"Welcome with affection what is sent by fate." -Marcus Aurelius
We don't control most things that happen in life. So why worry about them...?!
Thank you, brother. See Psalm20.
I’m in the process of reading his works, sadly it’s not the Hayes one but it’s still something. Most of what he wrote down struck a cord with me. I wrote down some of what I liked and here are some of them:
1 “After all, what frets you? The vices of humanity? Remember the doctrine that all Rational beings are created for one another, that toleration is part of Justice and that men are not intentional evil doers.”
2 “Put the belief that ‘I have been wronged!’ And with it, will go the feeling. Reject your sense of injury and the injury itself disappears.”
3 “All of us are creatures of a day, the rememberer and the remembered alike.”
Me reading his journal makes me feel that I gained such an amazing friend such as him.
Thank you. Perfect timing for me on my journey ☺️
Amen
I just bought the book! Looking forward to it
Thank you!
Thank you for this. Depression and anxiety are not a medical diagnosis. I am an infantry army veteran that was diagnosed with these disorders plus more. You aren't helpless to your thoughts and emotions. Fix yourself.
the great thing about not having an opinion is that it gives you the space to reinforce someone else's opinion in a conversation, even if you don't agree with it, and see where it leads. It can be funny and positive to see what people say when they think that you support their position.
I hope one day you come and visit us in Montreal Canada. It would truly amazing to meet you and learn from you. ✊🏻💖🙏🏻
i was surprised when i was reading meditation because it’s so easy to understand and relatable to me cause i thought its from ancient time and could be hard to understand for modern people especially non native english speakers like me
3rd One is pure gold!
I named my son after a Great man "Marcus Aurelius". But I used his last name for my son's first name and also changed the spelling but sounds alike, i spelled it " Arayleus ".
You should read the Bible too, so much wisdom in there
Gregory Hays was my favorite professor in College.
DUDE! I LOVE THESE! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! ": )
I think about the second one all the time.
Just ordered it!
Ryan Aurelius
I like it
You're a treasure.
I'm glad that I found this channel
I don’t have an opinion about any of this , but it’s great 😊
I agree with you
great❤

i have marcus aurelius to help deal with life, and albert camus to help deal with death
True translation words
I've got the book but I didn't get into. Something about the language is telling me it's going to be a more challenging read.
Try the translation by the Hicks brothers called "The Emperor's Handbook"... that's the version that I find to be most readable but still written in a way that's true to the way Marcus would have written. ❤
Nailed
Would not having an opinion on something be to not say anything? Or would it be more internal, not letting these events have power over us?
"What comes after I die?"
"I don't have to have an opinion about it"
Have you sat on the floor and closed your eyes?
Just sat with your own thoughts?
wow
Contemporary sensibilities hate this. 2023 says you’re not responsible for anything but subject to your identity.
The reason we care about the opinions of others more than our own is because those opinions can cause harm. There's a reason why we have LAWS based on slander and libel, sometimes those opinions can cause you harm. If it's an opinion that won't cause you harm then there's zero reason to care.
It is true libel and slander can cause harm to a person's reputation, but not to their character. Our reputation is influenced by us, by ultimately belongs to others. Our character belongs only to us and can only be enhanced or diminished by us.
❤❤❤❤❤
The Meditations is my daily reading. It is my Bible now. As a Bible, I call it as the Marcus Dialogue.
Logically, why? Why does it matter? Logically.
Why suffer, if you are going to die?
I am reading for the first time
Enjoy the read! 💭
Weirdly enough, this reminds me of what BOB BARKER once said when asked what advice he would give to any contestant on The Price Is Right. He said he would advise them never to listen to the audience or ask them for help because they are no smarter than you are!
I've noticed if you follow this you become spiritual...its strange
We can bring our emotions to them but typically speaking those emotions are there for a reason - if someone dents your car you will become upset. We can have emotions but the emotions are a reaction based on something, typically an event that a man would call positive or negative.
That’s the right answer friend! 💭🎙️
💯🍻
Amor Fati

Bale?
the 2nd one is pure 24k gold
is this the only book he’s ever read?
I discard my suicidal thoughts. Thank you God for today. Happiness is our purpose according to the Dalai Lama. I choose happiness. Peace❤
How do we feel about the fact that he was infamous for persecution of Christian’s ?
I'm in partial agreement with the third point. Sometimes it DOES have to be something. Becoming socially ostracized can and does have its own repercussions.
@@crash0767Marcus Aurelius is originally Roman and spoke latin but wrote them in ancient greek.
You can definitely find a translation in your language!
In instances where you're forced by cohersion or threat to express an opinion, you should consider those forcing you as an enemy.
So?
Disagreeing with evil orders makes you AWOL. And morally correct.
Either you value society and not being excluded,
or you value your beliefs/morality….
With opinions I rank them and assign weight to them in this order.
#1 - My opinion.
#2 - Friends and Family's opinion.
#3 - Bob Dylan's opinion, Neil Young's opinion, Jimmy Page's opinion, etc.
#4 - Everybody else.
...trouwens, van gevone citizen, keizer....,in one life time..
Meditations is bro’s Bible 🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is logical insanity.
....hij stond op adembenemende hoogte, hij was a keizer, dit was normal, don t aplly on you...
He was very good at words but a father?
I'd rather people read Meditations than the bible!! It doesn't claim to have the answer to everything while being full of false information!!
So in short when it comes to other people who gives a F
Read Quran…
but if you dont speak up and have an opinion then who are you.
Try reading the Bible. That many times . You will learn much more brother.
Marcus is dead. Why does what he thought matter? You are also going to die. Why does anything matter?
There is an answer.
But it's not in that book.
Cringe
Christians can CAST ALL OUR ANXIETY ON CHRIST
Marcus’s wife Cucked him by sleeping with gladiators. He knew about it and did nothing. What type of man allows his wife to cheat and does nothing? Poor example for other men.
The Emperor's wife screwing slaves isn't "cuckolding", dude, it's what most noblewoman did in Roman times.
How you know that lol.
@@alpha-vs1fx By reading history books, same way anybody knows anything from history.
That's why his wife raised a failure of a son. And Marcus Aurelius is literally remembered as the last great Emperor.
You should take the advice of not having to have an opinion when you take every chance you get to take a stab at Trump!
I like you and I love your books but you should keep politics and your opinion of Trump out of it.
Caring about others opinions more is evolutionary psychology. Living in small group meant you HAD to be agreeable within the group to survive.
Easier said than done
❤
