  • Unusual events happening in the attic lead to adventure with Curse Of The Idol from 1990, an excellent, if flawed board game!
Welcome to Down From The Attic where each week I go into my attic and find something cool and interesting to show you. Toys, board games, comics, collectables, video games, who knows what I'll bring down from the attic!

I like the intro. Jumanji and Indiana Jones must be your favourite movies. I've never owned nor played Curse of the Idol. It reminds me of HeroQuest. Indiana Jones and The Crystal Maze.

Great review! I've never seen this game before as it would be right up my alley with Forbidden Bridge and the adventurer theme. Very entertaining and informative. Your attention to detail and Indiana Jones fandom is not lost on me! The artwork on the game is superb and is great to have that insight about the artist. Makes me excited to get my copy! Thanks again for your reviews, friend!

#RestorationGames - this looks like another game that should land on kickstarter! Great review!

We have this game, and indeed it is cursed. We absolutely love it, but the fights, particularly from my youngest daughter are monstrous.
Love your videos, really appreciate all the time and effort you must put in. Really looking forward to seeing what else you find in your attic. Would be awesome if you found *COUGH* Alley cats and Exploration *COUGH*
Keep up the good work. Love it.

Hello Matt, I really do love this game, it's one of my absolute favourites being an Indiana Jones fan but I'm honest about it's flaws. Have you tried the house rules with your family, see it it plays better? I'd be interested to know, I've found it makes it a lot more fun with them. Haven't heard of Exploration but I've heard of Alley Cats, what a fun game that is, wasn't my game but my brothers, I might have it floating around up there still ;)

It was hard finding a complete game of this on line I know this video is 7 years old and things change after all said and done I paid almost $90 for it I've been wanting it for a while , and every site selling game is from UK was wondering if this was only released there , fantastic video btw

@@jayvalentine2046 I had no idea it’d crept up in value as much as that! It’s scary how expensive some of these games are getting. There’s games like voice of the mummy and seance that are just far too expensive for me to justify spending money on. Years ago it was possible to find bargains on both. In any case, I hope you enjoy your game when it arrives :)

Your opening mini movie was better than TombRaider 2 movie. Lol
I've been looking for this game as I saw the review by Matt's channel and he gives respect for your vid presentation for it that came before his. But it is difficult to find. I'm in USA and I saw only two of them forsake but both were in UK. The shipping was going to kill me. Lol
"Treasures and Trapdoors" I think its called, was the Egyptian themed game with revolving pathways and snake pit and all sorts of gems and unique things going on. I'd like to find that one also.

I have a review written for Treasures and Trapdoors written but not filmed it yet. It's an okay game, but not one I'd spend stupid money on getting. If you can get it at a reasonable price I'd say go for it but it's not worth more than £20 in my opinion

Happy new year, first great review mate well done, second because i am playing this boardgame a lot of times and i have checked some reviews on this and no one has explained how do you move yourself across the pit through the hidden stairs,i have my way to do it with 3 steps also in my rules book says that the bad guy cant follow there. What is your opinion on this??Great review bro keep up....

    • @downfromtheattic
      @downfromtheattic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

With the hidden stairs, it's treated as a single movement on a square, so if you're moving for example 5, 1,2,3 (on the one side of the stairs) 4 (opposite side of the stairs now) 5. It's a pretty handy mechanic and I've played it both ways, where the villain can go along the the stairs. My thoughts are that the villain is confined to the temple, he should know all the secret routes too ;)

Any chance you've played the 1991 Crystal Maze game by MB? If so, thoughts? The box art intrigued me, seems like it's same as Curse of the Idol whereas it was mainly a MB UK release, no USA release which makes sense as apparently it's based on a popular UK show. Makes me wonder how many other MB games like Curse of the idol weren't released in US market. EDIT Knightmare 1991 from MB appears to be another, they all had cool box art

    • @downfromtheattic

Ooooh yes, been a fan of Crystal Maze since I was a kid and have the game too, not overly similar to Curse of The Idol, it's actually closer to my latest Euro Disneyland review, solve challenges and puzzles before getting admission to the final challenge. If you've never watched Crystal Maze the entire classic series is on youtube, could not recommend it more. The best game show ever made. There's a Crystal Maze Experience in my home town where you can actually play the Crystal Maze, it looks incredible. Yeah, I've never really understood why MB and a number of other companies limited their releases geographically like they did. You think they'd wanna make as much as they could off something
