    Amazing! Every time I see a fantastic layout like this I want to toss mine in the trash and start over..which I just did. The 3-D printed equipment is awesome. Great job!

      Thanks. I've started over four times, so if you do - don't worry. I've putzed up my fair share of models, scenery, trackwork, etc. Plus, my skills are constantly evolving. I've reworked scenes, updated material, corrected track and wiring work. As long as you're enjoying it, just keep working it until it's where you want it. Our layouts are never complete, there's just a point where we chose to stop working on them.

    Great layout coming along well. Love your winter/spring transitions. Liked your philosophy on staging. Only thing is you’ll need a good size work crew or you’ll have to live to a hundred and twenty five to get it complete. LOL

      I try to get as much railroad time as possible. there's so many projects, I really don't know if it's ever going to be complete. But i'm gonna give it hell!

    • @AlleghenyNorthern

      N-scale is the best. Awesome detail and so much stuff can be placed realistically in a small area.

    Hello. Nice layout coming together. Also I am a N scale modeler and you are correct. I don't need pre 1960's vehicles and machinery or old brick buildings . Just order like you did from Shape ways and scratch build.

      Paving equipment is some of my absolute favorite and no one makes it in N! BUT, you can get it 3D printed from Shapeways. Check them out, it'll change the way you model for sure.

    Have you ever presented your track plan? I'd love to see it. A reference to the MRR Salt Lake Route doesn't seem to do justice to yours.
    Again, well done.

      @AlleghenyNorthern  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! No, haven't really done a recent track plan vid since adding half of the upper deck. I'll get one pulled together - it'll take a little bit of time to do the graphics.

    Nice layout. I agree with you on older era content. Model companies need to step up their game and start making modern vehicles and scenery. Look at the age groups and the eras they model. Younger people are modeling more modern times. Also on a side note I wouldn’t have gotten into model railroading if it wasn’t for DCC.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put off DCC for a LONG time. I realize now that was a huge mistake. DCC gives excellent control, especially at slow speeds, plus the ability to walk around with the train. here's a lot of good modern equipment in HO; sooner or later these companies will realize there's a big n-scale world out there ready to buy this stuff.

    Now that was truly Fantastic!! Really Awesome!! Love the way the whole layout is looking. You've done such an incredibly creative and inspirational job with it. One question I have is, how wide is the second level from the wall? And .. . how much distance is there from the first level to the top of the second level? Thank you so much! Please keep up the great work. Hope you have a video coming up with the trains running. Maybe combined railfanning with "drone views" high up.

      More videos coming!

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      only addressed part of your comment... second level is 15" above the lowest part of the layout, gets a little tighter upgrade at about 12" between levels. The lower level is about 36" deep, the upper level will be about 24" and I'm planning on stringing some rope lights under it so everything is visible.

    Awesome layout! Love the winter scene
    What and how do clean the track? I saw a can of crc2-26. Do you use this for electrical contact?

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use CRC 2-26 to clean the tracks. I use the Tidy Track wand from Woodland Scenics and put the soft white pad and the coarser gray/black pad on (white first, with a small amount of the contact cleaner on) then the dark pad as a dryer/dirt remover. One small application pretty much does the entire layout. I clean my rails with it about once a year. It's also a lubricant so less is definitely better or the wheelslip is terrible! But, it's amazing for keeping the rails clean and the locos with good electrical contact!

    Great tour.. Awesome layout. What is the issue you are having with the wye?

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. No, the wye works perfectly - but during operation, it's quite the puzzle. Although trains can move in both directions or use the mainline to reverse, there's two crossovers a good distance away thanks to all the curves in this section. So a slow moving train coming from the terminal really messes up the mainlines. Unless the dispatcher is really good.

    • @EmPtySworld1
      @EmPtySworld1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlleghenyNorthern Ahhh OK..Yeah I could see how that would make a mess

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BUT, wiring it up was a challenge because of the number of wire connections to the tracks and everything had to go through the AR1 unit. It would have been easier without the turntable, but... where's the fun in that?

    • @EmPtySworld1
