Holy crap, the first story is actually mine! I never expected to end up on a Crispy’s Tavern video! But thank you for your words, Crispy. I’ve since spoken with the DM, and they’ve told Maddie that under no circumstances would she be allowed to do that. Not for lack of her throwing a tantrum over it…
bet you also never expected to play with a wanna-be Kerrigan, but here we are ^.^ She really should have just stuck to Starcraft. I mean, I get it, controlling a swarm is cool, but ... not at the expense of other player's fun.
I'm glad things were hammered out with the DM. Your story made me nervous too, I take issue with one player having power over another without their consent. Especially if they are irresponsible, selfish, or malicious with it. I hope you don't have other posts like this going forward! 😁
I have so many questions about her mentality 1. Why would she choose a chaotic evil deity to worship 2. Why does her choice of deity give her magical control over all spiders she encounters 2b. Wouldn't commanding them require Speak With Animals and successful persuasion checks, maybe with advantage from her deity choice at most 3. Swarmkeeper's swarms aren't even actually animals, they're spirits bound to the Keeper that just take the appearance of something else?
Heyo! Liam here! Just for a bit of extra backstory; You got it exactly right. When she pulled me aside to talk she explicitly told me that she had her mental health crisis under control and would be able to play. I had only been around T a handful of times and she seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. This, combined with my limited knowledge of how bad her condition actually was, led me to run the game anyways. Not my brightest moment, but here we are. The crisis was also SO much worse than I thought. While I was writing and sending that story, she was having a meltdown in a movie theatre so bad that the staff THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE. So you know... that happened
I should also add that while I play with a lot of people, we're not die-hard dnd players. We constantly flub rules and play rule-of-cool. Any self respecting DnD player would weep watching one of our games, so that's why we aren't fussy about having a drink during the game. We all care more about the story than accurate numbers or by the book play
@@Jae468 Nothing wrong with a more casual game, if everyone in the group is down for it. It's just... well, Teegan's actions were NOT okay in ANY group.
Sounds like you stumbled into someone with histrionic or borderline personality disorder symptoms. From my irreproachable, internet-expert armchair, of course.
@@shadiafifi54it’s really upsetting because from when I had hung out with her before she seemed fine. It was like a completely different person showed up on game day
First Story: I think the thing that really rubs me wrong about this is the way that the DM keeps saying "I can only picture your character as [insert thing here]", as though they know how you're going to play it. That makes it sound like he has a very specific idea for what he wants this story to be, and OP and their sister coming up with weird interesting stuff is throwing him off. It's bad. If OP sticks around to play this game, I hope we get another horror story about the campaign, because it sounds like it's going to be a mess just based on that.
For the cryptid story, first off, your DM hard vetoing multiple ideas after saying "You can play anything" should have been enough to make you leave the campaign Second, familiars can't attack. By definition. The way it's described makes it sound like she's playing a Beastmaster Ranger, in which case she wouldn't be able to pick up a Blink Dog anyway, and it's all just kind of a mess?
It is a bit of a mix up, the creature can "attack" in so far that it does have jaws and can bite. But the main point of the creature was to be ridden as mobility for the 2 inch tall fae character. At no point would the blink dog actually attack, because it would be a waste and not the point. Further more the blink dog was chosen because "characters 3 feet and under tall are at risk of being whisked away by aerial enemies." So it was 100% an extra protection and way to get away from such enemies. I think at most if we were to reach a point where the dog does bite something, it'd be a roleplay (not combat) encounter and we'd probably just roll a D4 if damage is asked, and that's it.
Yeah, all sorts of red flags for being railroaded in this campaign. "You can do what you want, only not really, you have to stick with this narrow confines of what's acceptable. And that's how the game is going to be too, with me narrowing what you can and can't do so that it fits my specific image of what's aceptable." And from the sounds of the other things Joe plays in other games it'd be a total DM vs Players thing which is why he's nerfing anything "that would be OP."
Joe has a problem with female players, note that it was only the women he had an issue with while the male players can make whatever they want without question.
@@IzzyPR2010 What are you talking about? We dont know the gender of anyone except Joe and OPs sister. We dont even know OPs gender. They didnt mention the mutual friends character at all either. We dont even know if he allowed theirs or not, just that Joes friends that no one else knew clearly got to do what they wanted. Favortism, not sexism. And since when are Pery and Griz, completely fabricated names, assumed to male? You know Paris is a female name and in french is pronounced closer to pery than pare-is, right? If anythiny Perry is more feminine. Can you virtue signal anymore blatantly?
Now I know the origin of a Yu-Gi-Oh card. I figured it was just a fancy rabbit since not all of the Salamangreat monsters are named after their animal counterpart
Al-miraj, Jackalopes and Wolpertingr feel kinda like the rabbit trio equivalent of the Unicorn, Alicorn and Pegasus but they're all from different cultures.
@@conspiracypanda1200 More like the Almiraj would be the unicorn, Wolpertinger the Alicorn, Jackalopes the eath pony equivalent and Skvaders the Pegasus.
In the Volcano story: I think there was a bigger problem with Joe's main character syndrome that you didn't touch upon even before the volcano. He was full on telling other characters how to play, whining about not being central, and trying to spotlight hog from what was said. The fact that he still wanted to be the hero and went so far as to not care about another character was part of that. Him not accepting responsibility seems par for the course.
What main character syndrome? The guy wasn't trying to be the hero, he was trying to use what he knew about the game so that the team would win. He was instructing people how to properly play their character and even used min maxing techniques to further do that. He was constantly giving knowledge and actually talking about d&d in the discord and it seemed like no one else participated. The guy's obviously a huge fan of d&d but he doesn't have a main character syndrome. Also he was friends with the DM and the rest of the people except the guy writing the story so DM licking his own friend because jo knew how to play the game was ass. Shit DM
the fungus aarocockra idea is actually the exact backstory i made for a tortle druid i made a long time ago! still haven't played them, but i love the idea.
Intro: Definitely a bad scenario waiting to happen. I think lore says Swarmkeeper Ranger's swarm aren't actually animals but fae that looks like them. Could use that to deny the other player's antics. 1st story: A cool premise wasted by a hypocrite DM. The image of a draconic centaur bathing in lava makes me interested in making something that can do that. 2nd story: Definitely a lighter story than I expected. Nice volcano scenario. Good to see horror stories where the problem player is properly punished or removed. 3rd story: Killing off late/absent players without telling them is pretty bad. As was not letting the OP play for no reason. Wastes people's time and makes attendance punishment look incredibly hypocritical. 4th story: I wouldn't be surprised if her mental health issue was a lie to prevent criticism, like the infamous airship story.
You're thinking familiars, the swarm is made up of nature spirits! "...a swarm of intangible nature spirits has bonded itself to you and can assist you in battle. You determine its appearance... "
That cold open struck a chord with me. It is a yellow flag, maybe it'll be in good fun. But I would throw out two caveats if it were me: 1st: I reserve the right to veto any shenanigans involving my spiders turning against me. They are *my* class feature after all. 2nd: I reserve the right to veto any shenanigans involving my spiders during combat or stressful situations. If there isn't a good story reason for it to happen, or if all it does is endanger my character, or remove my access to class features, then it won't happen.
I can understand having concerns but that seems very hyper responsive. They assumed a lot without giving any further context into why it would be a problem. Their then response was to possibly drop out? Just talk to people and communicate, right now though, it’s definitely over reacting.
@@lalaferosmyyrh6482Apparently that OP did communicate concerns (he was in the comment section) and got the schtick to be dropped. Can't blame OP for being worried about getting bullied at the table with his own class feature. It's his character, not that other player's. And there's no obligation to just let it happen.
@@TheMightyBattleSquid yeah in hindsight thats easy to say. With the information available at the time, being worried was not overreacting, but changing characters or dropping out of the campaign without even trying to ask the DM or Maddie about it would have been overreacting. I had a friend playing an elven druid that made a joke about being able to convince my animal companion to do things since he can communicate with animals when I was playing a beastmaster ranger. I was a little concerned, but he never once tried to do anything that would harm me or be detrimental to the party. For the most part, it was RP stuff, like talking shit about me with my wolf companion behind my back, and sometimes id even let him go off on his own running errands with my wolf. They were almost as close as me and the wolf were. However, there WAS some actual combat uses for this dynamic. As im sure you know, beastmasters can only telpathically communicate with their animal if they are in line of sight. We were able to get around this limitation by using the druid to relay orders or information back and forth when me and wolfie werent able to see eachother. My wolf essentially was my animal companion and a psuedo-familiar to the druid at the same time. 😂😂 druid didnt get any direct mechanical boosts, but being able to communicate enemy locations to my wolf, who could then telepathically relay that information to me, waiting up on a hill or in the trees save our party from disaster on atleast 4 occasions. At the end of the campaign, my female ranger character had grown so close to the druid through their shared loved of the wolf (and my wolf totally snitching on anything the druid said), they fell in love and settled down together in the Cormathor Forest with the wolf being like a child to them. Damn. I miss that character. I really hope my DM decides to do a high enough level campaign to bring her back out. Hopefully i can convince my friend to dust off the ol'character sheet for his druid. By now theyve probably got a whole pack of wolves 😂 Point is, theres always potential with D&D. Dont assume the worst until someone gives you reason to.
Ok the first story with the cryptids and folklore as playable characters is extremely interesting, it gave me a few ideas. Bigfoot Rogue (reskinned Goliath) Grafton Monster Barbarian (Reskinned ork) A witch doctor (reskinned Druid)
@@arsenalxa4421 depends which version of wendigos we are talking about for the deer skull headed monster a hexblade or bloodhunter would work and an ability to perfectly mimic voices for the mythically accurate one an assassin with an array of mind control and ice spells would fit better and for these polymorphing back into a "normal human" would be a requirement as the myths go wendigos could do this
Story 1 I understand character set up can be long, but if a dude is being this stubborn about what is allowed in game-bail. It’s not worth dealing with a DM this stubborn.
For real, can you imagine having to come up with 4 different things for your character to do whenever you start roleplaying with this dm? Dude is so heavy-handed he keeps shutting down basic reflavoring.
Yea, in my experience that sort of DM is either going to treat the players as a captive audience for his personal fanfic (like in the infamous airship horror story), or will override the PC's agency & say "no, your character actually does X" if they don't follow the script he has in his head. No fun for anyone except the controlling DM.
Dm definitely didn't force Teagan to play. She didn't mention it til she was already at the house. She was fully planning on playing. Based on how bad all of her behavior was, I would t be shocked if she was making up a crisis as an excuse for her bad behavior
last story was wild 💀 If it is true, I don't blame them for not giving a damn when she went into the bathroom, especially after she basically exposed her own manipulative intentions lmao go ahead, cry, see how I care after how you treat my friends and S.O. 🤣I'm surprised they didn't just throw her out
i mean from what the story told, she was pretty blatantly trying to get in OP's pants, despite his SO (who is also her friend) being right there along with 5 other people add to that how she was belitteling and insulting everyone, yeah i agree idk how they didnt kick her out
Honestly, considering she was bragging about distracting another player and even had the DM fetching random things, I think her "mental health crisis" was being called out for her toxic narcissism.
Ok, I have to laugh. I almost never hear stories with my name in it, and now I feel like *I'm* a butthole. Is this what it's like for others when they hear stories with characters that share a name with them? She... sounds like a whole lot. A whole, whole lot.
General reminder for the DM and characters(tiefling and variant). Lolth's gifts are granted and revoked at the discretion of Lolth, who may appear to do so caprieciously as well as to test her adherents.
Was Joe just hoping for some scantily-clad, buxom fairy girls and got frustrated when they kept making characters that didn't... stimulate him properly? Wouldn't be the first time that happened.
> Wanted everyone to do the optimal move > Played Ranger I love Ranger but you'd think someone telling the Monk & Wizard how to play would play a class that wasn't universally memed for their lack of use in comparison to other classes.
I really, really enjoy your videos! Hearing these stories makes me reflective of my past and present behaviors to course correct if needed. Everyone can be a little annoying time and again, but I’d rather avoid as much as I can BEFORE it happens! Love your commentary! Yay for vacations! See you in the next one I haven’t heard yet. 💙
"You can play _whateeeeeeever_ you want. Except that. And that. No, not that one. Not that one either, it's just too OP. This just doesn't 'fit' the setting I have in mind." At this point why dosnt 'Joe' just make the damn characters _for_ you? What a uniquely aggravating GM. Edit: what were the ages of the people in the last story?
And it's actually an option: The DM can make some pre-set characters that fit the setting and power level and then let people choose and customize them from there. Not my preferred way, but you can do that if you like. Just be upfront about it.
@@YourXavier This is perfectly valid- preferably even, in my experience, if you are playing with first-timers or if you are oneshotting a chill game with some experienced players. Just put you expectations out there so the players have a chance to make a choice.
I kind of like that these stories are more social-interaction based. It kind of gives me a more grounded idea of what to expect as a player in the future
Teigan is the name of our groups most hated enemy. Two of our players ran a short evil campaign with the dm and Teigan was one of the evil characters. He was some insane mix of giant, asimar, barbarian something or other that could one v. four our regular group...even with the player of Teigan actively trying to counter him with his normal character.
the first story sounded like my first dnd character that was a kenku, citclr of spores druid. (my bird man befriended the mushrooms and accidentally got parasitically attached to the fungi)
The first story just feels like the DM doesn't want op and their sister in the campaign. Those were the two told to redo their characters multiple times while the others were allowed to be even more crazy than them. As someone who loves fey and is running a feywild campaign, this annoys me so much. Dont say any fey whatever you want and then gatekeep all of the options that are primarily just flavoring
19:50 - I really think that OP was being too polite in describing the DM. I'm sure this warrants a few more obscenities. It's damned near the same scenario as when I joined the game I'm currently playing but the results are polar opposites. I came in on the second session, had never played with any of these people before - had voice chatted with two of them when I was being interviewed for a place in the game, but that was it - one of their players wasn't able to make it and it was basically "[Pilot] hasn't signed in. He works really weird shifts so he's probably asleep. Someone else can roll his skill checks for the session" and on we went - no fuss, nobody had to die. The crew had some stuff left over from the previous session to sort out and then they had to hire a crew for their ship - and that was *my* introduction, as someone who'd been stuck on that rock for far too long and eager to sign on just to get out of there. I think I had to wait possibly half an hour at the most, probably a lot less - I wasn't exactly timing it. And then we were off trading and fighting pirates - good shit! Similar setup - new player joining existing game and one of the players not showing up - totally different outcome... because our GM's not a wanker.
I don't think T is the only person with some mental health issues in today's episode. Let's talk about Jo. So, normal people don't spend a full evening talking to themselves on Discord. The amount of time and effort that Jo puts in writing and sending messages to the other players, I mean think about the logged hours implicit in that description... That should have raised some red flags. Sure, maybe it's just some adhd hyperfocus acting up. But it could also be the upswing of a bipolar curve. OP and the others should maybe have gone outside the game to ask something like "Hey Jo, are you okay?"
DM - "You can play any wacky and/or fae character you want." Also DM - "Except that one... or that one... that one has to go... no, not that one... that's overpowered, so no..." Like, dude, seriously? If you don't want OP and their sister to play, just tell them they can't play instead of showing blatant favoritism to the other players.
I should probably write about this campaign some day, but that waiting story at 17:38? Think that, but FOUR SESSIONS! And we played by-weekly, so that was TWO MONTHS
Story 4: Super frustrating and I have witnessed a DM doing this in a game I played in. When I DM with a new player joining, I start the game from their point of view meeting the party.
The first story annoys me even more due to the fact that although im shaky on DnD lore, I know Perytons can only assume human shape after consuming the heart of one. And that the ones who do cast human shadows and the end goal of a Peryton is to consume the heart of a human. And yet the Blink Dog is vicious?
Yeah... For the second story; as a GM who has applied restrictions to players creations before, I cannot state enough: Be upfront about your restrictions!
God I am so sad for FelZec and their sister. That's a great way to have something as weird as a Ropen while still not only being easy on the dm, but even handing them potential free storybeats, it just hurts me that they were forced to abandon the concept, and that whole parade of nonsense that followed.
The DM should have just said "Ow T is not well to play, some other time then..." everything was just a massive collection on red flag and frankly "not his circus, not his monkeys".
Constance being the least enthused makes total sense to me. Whenever you're the catalyst for a problem player being kicked, you're running the risk of freak out behavior and blowback. If they have your number or know any personal information, it can be especially concerning to be the "reason" someone unhinged was kicked.
Great take on story one. Maybe the Tiefling's player plans to have his character mess with the swarm for an in-game day and then get bored with it. "Metagaming" is good when the other party explains they're not malicious they simply want to do X and if you're uncomfortable with X that's up for discussion. Also, anyone claiming it's on you to get over your discomfort is a red flag.
Story 3: I've said it before and I'll say it again. GMs, don't let players make choices that can kill or significantly alter other players' characters. Yes, Jo was obnoxious and messed up, and then tried to start an uprising against the GM (don't do that either). But what led to it shouldn't have happened to begin with. Its one step removed from allowing PvP, and I hope I don't need to explain why that's bad.
Why do DMs do this nonsense like in the second story? Where there's no actual rules in place, it all goes off how the DM's feeling *at the time* It's wasting the players time, having to scrap characters they've completed for no good reason. DM's like this have got to get their heads on straight.
Some people just want/need that extra attention. In my old group, the DM's sister would play with us and often try and drag me off to watch anime or hang out. I was the only other girl in the group, so I didn't think much of it, but did insist on playing TTRPGs with my friends... It took me too long to figure out that she was hitting on me.
Ooof, sometimes people who are oblivious just need need to be asked out. I can be oblivious at times but I do sometimes realize when someone is trying to ask me out... when they asked me or I figure it out later.
@@midnights2631 I wasn't really interested in her that way, and part of it was also just taking away attention from her brother. The whole situation was weird and toxic and she ended up in jail for selling drugs after being disowned by her father for breaking up his second marriage.
I can relate a little to the guy trying to tell the party what to do. I have a very active mind, then I calculate the optimal action for the state of the board for each round and adjust after any action/dice roll. BUT, I keep it all to myself, except when someone asks my opinion. And I avoid metagaming, since I have my game of d&d and play in another I helped my GM with the beta of the system, and I have a knack to have the powers of a rules lawyer.
had a very similar situation to the story at 17:30. Was playing a play-by-post campaign on a forum. Party was split, each doing their own chores (Easier on PbP because you can take time to do everything). My character was having an emotional conversation with an NPC, trying to work through something that happened recently. I make my post, then for... some reason, still not entirely sure why... something like two weeks IRL pass by without a response to me from the DM. The DM is still active, every other character is getting replies to their conversations. Eight replies to one, five for another, three for another... meanwhile here i am... stiiiill waiting... Left two comments in the OOC thread saying "hey I'm still waiting for a response here" and everything. Nothing. Eventually i had enough and just had my PC walk out of the campaign. The NPC was clearly ignoring them, so the issue was never resolved and my PC made the wrong choice. DM made a "you were going to be the next response!!!" post which i still don't quite believe. Gave them the chance to ret-con the whole thing and just give me a reply once a week or so, and i was told this sounded "Hostage-ish", so i left. Really sucks too, as i was really enjoying the campaign. But when one PC is going through an entire conversation on the other end of town while my PC is just standing there awkwardly frozen in time... yeah... sorry but no thanks.
The swarm wouldn't actually be spiders though, it'd just take the form of them. "...a swarm of intangible nature spirits has bonded itself to you and can assist you in battle... You determine its appearance." Lolth isn't the queen of nature spirits that are spider-shaped. Also, lolth is the wrong god to just assume would let some no name acolyte control her spiders lol
6:30 That's not how the ability recharge works though, you're supposed to roll a d6 and on a roll of 4-6 the ability comes back. A nitpick, for sure, I don't know why that's the thing that stuck out to me, but a fundamental misunderstanding of the rule doesn't help the case
I am gonna say this, NEVER start a new player in a long campaign. Do a one shot. That way it is not a long term commitment if they do not enjoy it. If they have done TTRPGs before, different story, but it still wise to do a one shot as every DM/GM is different. My style may not be a style they enjoy. I don't think I am bad by any means, but i am rather unorganized and i am not a voice actor. I can still DM my ass off though.
Tfw you do not allow a monk fall freely in the woods since trees are not wall they could use to slide, and your player thinks it's an Armageddon, even though the same player whined out an extra feat from you before.
Gah, my greatest pet peeve is that double standard crap. Even the few times I have favorites among my players, the rules are the same for everyone, and they get no special treatment. Especially with homebrew races, seems like being consistent and clear with what's allowed seems like a big deal.
I knew some like that lady in the last story. Always had some reason that she thought allowed her to be an ashhole but also that we weren’t allowed to say she was being toxic and we didn’t want to be around her.
Holy crap! ...How do people think that pretending to be useless and actually being extremely rude will get someone to like you as a person? I do think that it could be a worse story at play (especially with mental health stuff), but I've seen this exact behavior from my former sister-in-law, and it is possible that it was to gaslight and to manipulate the OP of that story, since the behavior seems to suggest that she wants OP (given where she claimed doing the exact same things she was doing to OP got her before). I think it isn't really a ridiculous thing, especially since the OP's girlfriend heard her brag about it
@Arc Caravan what I meant was more... trying to get the OP to... do things. And the similar way incels do that same things. And I'm actually a little familiar with that form of manipulation, since I watched my brother experience it for about 14 years of marriage to my former sister-in-law
It’s called “weaponized incompetance”. I have read too many horror stories of mostly dudes in the relationship not being able to do basic things so that their partners have to take care of it Might be a mix of that and acting like a damsel in distress
Well in the story with the Cryptid Id probably play a dragin born type character inspired by the koi dragon. My powers. Swim speed increase Extra spell slots/high stamina Regeration (immortality) Stream breath Increased physical attributes Increased perception (dragons have hearing, sight, and smell far stronger than movies give them credit for) Dragon form (it boosts dragon breath power and makes the increased perception passive as now you have the full dragon body) My way of balancing this would be to make it so the breath had a cool down and the senses would have to actively be used rendering me with more average perception and the regeneration would be low amounts of health over time.
Oh dear... Tegan is what is refered to as a Mega Toxic Mess Narsasistic Manipulating Attention Seeker. She is showing all the signs of someone clearly manipulating the OP and their partner [the person whose supposed to be Tegan's friend] so she gets what she's really after. Getting into her "friend's" boyfriend's pants with the added bonus of keeping all the focus on her. This isn't the actions of someone going through a bad time head space. Not unless they're so bad off that their in need of a straight jacket. I've seen this kind of behavior before and its beeery rare it's due to a bad situation leaving them to act out this irrationally. The thing that makes me think this was just Tegan playing her manipulation game was her history of boasting of being able to sleep with any guy by playing a hurt clueless damsel in destress that needed that person's help. She is in serious need of a ego and reality check. I would say a therapist too, but she would probly try to manipulate and/or sleep with them as well.
@@Jae468 You certainly have my sympathies and condolences for dealing with that hot mess level craziness. That straight jacket will be delivered to her doorstep with a team of fitting specialists in 4 to 5 business days. LMAO!
I'm not sure about 5e, but I ban all flying races until 5 ECL. It makes things difficult for the DM at low level and since I'm running an old edition it's +2 level adjustment to add to custom races which is RaW.
wtf is even the DM inconsistency in the Feywild story? what could possibly be the reason for any of that? to me, it really sounds like some outside-of-game issues.

OP of that post, the pixie was going to be an int and con build so they were the highest stats. Not that my sister finished Stat rolling because the dm shot her down so fast.
I have a peryton character too but they do not look like the picture in the video. They have more of a deer like body, mixed with a wolf with wings of some kind of predatory bird
No but the first one could be a really cool way to save op from a hit that would down them. If everyone was okay with it it could even be an in game bonding moment
The DM from "I'm waiting" I think liked to test his players patience to an absurd degree. I think he intentionally left OP out of the first session for the same reason he was thought it was the sign of a good player when No show was up to make a new character. He wanted people who would put up with ludicrous amounts of his BS.
once as a young, inexperienced GM, I had a new player join an in-progress game with a paladin. i planned out how to introduce the character mid-dungeon as the party would come upon them fighting and help them out. however, i made the mistake of not being flexible about this introduction - so when the party took the wrong hints and delayed arriving to the fight, i had the poor guy wait. then the party kept taking wrong hints. the guy kept waiting. he played rollies with one of the players for a bit. the end of the session came, and the party hadn't gotten to where i had planned to introduce the new character yet. i apologized to the guy. unsurprisingly, he never came back. suffice to say, i learned my lesson as a GM: introduce new characters IMMEDIATELY..
Joe the DM story is a red flag. The DM being this inconsistent and disagreeable, not worth playing. And being the petty person, I would be tempted to suggest to the Sister to kick Joe from her game.
The first one: in what book does it say a damn thing about Lloth/lolth followers having control over spiders? That makes zero sense. The Spider Queen isn't going to be like "oh you're one of my followers, so you should be able to tell MY children what to do". Naw, bruh. Naw. Not unless you're some seriously important high priestess of the Spider Queen. Good luck with that as a Tiefling.
DnD Doge read that 3rd Story recently, the one where the DM was a Controlling Asshole and kept OP from ever Entering the Game and systematically Killing other Players' Characters if they didn't even Show up. Someone needs to Beat the Shit out of that DM, because What the Fuck!? That's just Arbitrarily taking away a Player's Ability and Agency to do anything.
Personally, I think the DM taking away agency is worse. If its another player, there's a chance the DM can step it and put a stop to it. If the DM is doing it, who's gonna step in?
Okay honest question: I am in a game with all people that I have been good friends with and play all sorts of games with for probably 9-10 years minimum. This is the first foray into DnD for several of my party members. Am I being an asshole if I am advising the new players on useful spells and bardic inspo/remember you have 3 attacks per turn and action surge? I’m never approaching it in a way that’s like “yeah your choice sucks do something else” but I don’t want them to feel like I’m trying to play their character for them.
About story 3.... i unfortunately see myself in jo, at least in the enthuasiasm. I wouldnt tell someone what to do with their stuff, i just get over excited and have audhd
11:11 That's "completion", not "competition". As for the last story, I think "T" or whatever lied about having mental health problems to get sympathy. She was bragging about getting people to sleep with her, right? That was probably part of her plan, just like all the compliments, getting the OP do stuff for her like make her character sheet for her and get her drinks, and crying when she doesn't get her way. It's kind of pathetic, honestly.
Yes, but also, no sane, well-adjusted adult acts this way. So whether she's this manipulative normally, or whether she actually was in a mental heath crisis, either way, girl clearly needs MAJOR therapy.
Not really a direct comment on the video but I'd say the tatic of "being helpless" works for picking up guys because guys like trying to help the "damsel in distress", unfortunately even when their help isn't wanted or needed. Also, it is a psychological thing that if someone offers you something and you accept it they tend to like you more, that doesn't just apply to men though. It isnt necessarily a black mark against you for turning it down but it is a trick, or so I have heard, to make people like you more.
How is a blink dog a familiar? Familiars are like 1/4th cr. It's stronger than any warlock familiar whicj are meant to be stronger because it's a main subclass feature
@Es lo que hay OP of that story here, the blink dog was never intended to attack at all. It was specifically created to be mobility for the 2 inch tall fae that rides it. And she chose a bigger animal like a blink dog to ride because we were told that short character faced being grappled and carried off by aerial enemies. And she wanted just that little extra protection. Also even at level 1 my current character is more op than the blink dog with a con 13 save petrify that was allowed.
Last story: the GM or any player is in no way a person's therapist. You are in no way shape or form responsible if someone is having a mental health crisis. They need to excuse themselves from play and then check up on them... If they are your friend... But you are in no way obligated. If you feel some sort of guilt, have a help hotline number ready.
Before you think this is callous, I have like half of my 9 person group that have bowed out last minute, no showed or had to drop mid session because of their various mental health concerns. I always reach out in a personal and meaningful way, but I don't stop things for an individual.
As far as T in the last story- how well do you have to know someone to determine if they are having a true mental health crisis or are just being an asshole?
She likely made it uo based on her bragging her strategy to get guys sleep with her is the basic sympathy situation play the damsel let the guy feel like he can be your hero by heloing you and it lures somenguys in guys want to feel valued and these kind girls take advantage of that pretend to be weaker than they are or need more help lying about mental health for sympathy is the kind shit those kind of girls will do
Holy crap, the first story is actually mine! I never expected to end up on a Crispy’s Tavern video!
But thank you for your words, Crispy. I’ve since spoken with the DM, and they’ve told Maddie that under no circumstances would she be allowed to do that. Not for lack of her throwing a tantrum over it…
bet you also never expected to play with a wanna-be Kerrigan, but here we are ^.^
She really should have just stuck to Starcraft. I mean, I get it, controlling a swarm is cool, but ... not at the expense of other player's fun.
@@Nerobyrne I'd rather Kerrigan was removed from Starcraft. She could take most of SC2's story with her too.
@@sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052 well, I disagree, she's my favourite character Blizzard made ^.^
I'm glad things were hammered out with the DM. Your story made me nervous too, I take issue with one player having power over another without their consent. Especially if they are irresponsible, selfish, or malicious with it. I hope you don't have other posts like this going forward! 😁
I have so many questions about her mentality
1. Why would she choose a chaotic evil deity to worship
2. Why does her choice of deity give her magical control over all spiders she encounters
2b. Wouldn't commanding them require Speak With Animals and successful persuasion checks, maybe with advantage from her deity choice at most
3. Swarmkeeper's swarms aren't even actually animals, they're spirits bound to the Keeper that just take the appearance of something else?
Heyo! Liam here! Just for a bit of extra backstory;
You got it exactly right.
It was like a completely different person showed up on game day
Goddamnnn, so sorry this happened to you, man :(
First Story: I think the thing that really rubs me wrong about this is the way that the DM keeps saying "I can only picture your character as [insert thing here]", as though they know how you're going to play it.
For the cryptid story, first off, your DM hard vetoing multiple ideas after saying "You can play anything" should have been enough to make you leave the campaign
Second, familiars can't attack.
And that's how the game is going to be too, with me narrowing what you can and can't do so that it fits my specific image of what's aceptable."
And from the sounds of the other things Joe plays in other games it'd be a total DM vs Players thing which is why he's nerfing anything "that would be OP."
@@dillongagemuch better virtue signaling, it's atleast hidden.

DM- We're doing a camping in the Feywild. Use whatever from there.
*players create characters*
DM- NOT THOSE!!!
Tw: *existing to warn about some horrible stuff*
Me: ~✨DaNGer✨ 💃dAngeR💃~
But I would throw out two caveats if it were me:
1st: I reserve the right to veto any shenanigans involving my spiders turning against me.
@@ArcCaravan yup, 100% chance they were planning to bully op like that and hated being called out before they did it.
By now theyve probably got a whole pack of wolves 😂
Point is, theres always potential with D&D. Dont assume the worst until someone gives you reason to.

Story 1
I understand character set up can be long, but if a dude is being this stubborn about what is allowed in game-bail.
🤣I'm surprised they didn't just throw her out
i mean from what the story told, she was pretty blatantly trying to get in OP's pants, despite his SO (who is also her friend) being right there along with 5 other people
add to that how she was belitteling and insulting everyone, yeah i agree idk how they didnt kick her out
Honestly, considering she was bragging about distracting another player and even had the DM fetching random things, I think her "mental health crisis" was being called out for her toxic narcissism.
Soooo... OP is me. Only reason I didn't throw her out was because our Rogue was her ride and I really didn't want to force him out along with her

Was Joe just hoping for some scantily-clad, buxom fairy girls and got frustrated when they kept making characters that didn't... stimulate him properly? Wouldn't be the first time that happened.
> Wanted everyone to do the optimal move

I love Ranger but you'd think someone telling the Monk & Wizard how to play would play a class that wasn't universally memed for their lack of use in comparison to other classes.
This just doesn't 'fit' the setting I have in mind."
At this point why dosnt 'Joe' just make the damn characters _for_ you?
What a uniquely aggravating GM.
Edit: what were the ages of the people in the last story?
And it's actually an option: The DM can make some pre-set characters that fit the setting and power level and then let people choose and customize them from there. Not my preferred way, but you can do that if you like. Just be upfront about it.
@@YourXavier This is perfectly valid- preferably even, in my experience, if you are playing with first-timers or if you are oneshotting a chill game with some experienced players.
Just put you expectations out there so the players have a chance to make a choice.
Welcome back, glad you had a good break, looking forward to the next campaign!
"No actual deaths." *Constance's character wants to have a word with you.*
She can't have a word. She's dead.
And not real.
DM - "You can play any wacky and/or fae character you want."
Also DM - "Except that one... or that one... that one has to go... no, not that one... that's overpowered, so no..."
Like, dude, seriously?
Yeah... For the second story; as a GM who has applied restrictions to players creations before, I cannot state enough: Be upfront about your restrictions!
glad you had a good vacation crispy!

"You can choose any fey from anywhere"
I'm playing as a Nuckelavee
God I am so sad for FelZec and their sister. That's a great way to have something as weird as a Ropen while still not only being easy on the dm, but even handing them potential free storybeats, it just hurts me that they were forced to abandon the concept, and that whole parade of nonsense that followed.
The DM should have just said "Ow T is not well to play, some other time then..." everything was just a massive collection on red flag and frankly "not his circus, not his monkeys".
Femcel Strikes Again...
I *had* caught up on all your RPG Horror Stories vids, now I'm a few behind again.
Constance being the least enthused makes total sense to me. Whenever you're the catalyst for a problem player being kicked, you're running the risk of freak out behavior and blowback. If they have your number or know any personal information, it can be especially concerning to be the "reason" someone unhinged was kicked.
I'm thinking that maybe I should track down the worst tabletop gamers I ever had... and apologize to them for thinking they were so terrible.
16:53 crispy talkin like he does this stuff 😂
Story 3: I've said it before and I'll say it again. GMs, don't let players make choices that can kill or significantly alter other players' characters. Yes, Jo was obnoxious and messed up, and then tried to start an uprising against the GM (don't do that either). But what led to it shouldn't have happened to begin with. Its one step removed from allowing PvP, and I hope I don't need to explain why that's bad.
Why do DMs do this nonsense like in the second story? Where there's no actual rules in place, it all goes off how the DM's feeling *at the time*
It's wasting the players time, having to scrap characters they've completed for no good reason.

Surprise Mirror Crispy at the end!
Holy crap! ...How do people think that pretending to be useless and actually being extremely rude will get someone to like you as a person? I do think that it could be a worse story at play (especially with mental health stuff), but I've seen this exact behavior from my former sister-in-law, and it is possible that it was to gaslight and to manipulate the OP of that story, since the behavior seems to suggest that she wants OP (given where she claimed doing the exact same things she was doing to OP got her before). I think it isn't really a ridiculous thing, especially since the OP's girlfriend heard her brag about it
I assume they don't care about being liked as a person, just what they can get from others.

That's a good sign to just not play with this DM.
Joe, what can you do for your players?
Nothing
I had an in person game, and my caracter didn't get an introduction til session 3. It was not fun going in every week to sit and watch people play.
Why did you keep coming back?
The thumbnail scares me and is totally not going to make me act up.
Well in the story with the Cryptid
Id probably play a dragin born type character inspired by the koi dragon.
My powers.
Swim speed increase
Extra spell slots/high stamina
Regeration (immortality)
Stream breath
Increased physical attributes
Increased perception (dragons have hearing, sight, and smell far stronger than movies give them credit for)
Dragon form (it boosts dragon breath power and makes the increased perception passive as now you have the full dragon body)
My way of balancing this would be to make it so the breath had a cool down and the senses would have to actively be used rendering me with more average perception and the regeneration would be low amounts of health over time.
Op here.... so about that straight jacket 😅
Femcel strikes again, to let me know you made it to the end of the video!
Wow, T sounds like a huge migraine headache.
OP here. You have no fucking idea
@@Jae468 Well, there is only so much I can gather by hearing the story, and it's not going to be enough.
@@marybdrake1472 If you’d like something to compare it to… imagine what it’d feel like to have your head flattened by an anvil like a Looney Toons bit. Sums it up well 😂
@@Jae468 Yeah, that thought did cross my mind a little.
I would have lost it pretty quickly myself. That player just sounds really frustrating, and I don't handle that well.
Most intriguing thing about the fey story was that the level one wizard had an 18 in constitution
One of the biggest rule that I have at my table as a GM, no getting drunk.
You would think that would go without saying
@@rootfish2671 You would think.
once as a young, inexperienced GM, I had a new player join an in-progress game with a paladin. i planned out how to introduce the character mid-dungeon as the party would come upon them fighting and help them out. however, i made the mistake of not being flexible about this introduction - so when the party took the wrong hints and delayed arriving to the fight, i had the poor guy wait. then the party kept taking wrong hints. the guy kept waiting. he played rollies with one of the players for a bit. the end of the session came, and the party hadn't gotten to where i had planned to introduce the new character yet.
i apologized to the guy. unsurprisingly, he never came back.
suffice to say, i learned my lesson as a GM: introduce new characters IMMEDIATELY..
Ay! A fellow Ace! :D
Damn how did I not realize I was pronouncing "Allos" wrong this entire time
Too many players... which one of us gms hasn't done that foolishness before as a young whelp?
Well having a high charisma doesn't necessarily mean your sauve. Intimidation is also charisma
Personally, I think the DM taking away agency is worse. If its another player, there's a chance the DM can step it and put a stop to it. If the DM is doing it, who's gonna step in?
What's an Allos? I tried googeling it but I only get stuff about some place in France.
It's idiotic slang for people who aren't asexual
Allosexual, anyone who feels sexual attraction to another
The spider story sounds more like a chance to be That Guy in return. Ask the DM to change your swarm to tarantula hawk wasps!
Or change into another animal. Or point out they aren't actually spiders, just fae spirits mimicking them.
Joe saying he loves Aarakocras, sounds way too similar to the "I have black friends" excuse.
Making DnD scenarios about real world race issues makes you cringe and devalues the word.
Cease.
Ask them if they like your advise, if not stop. If yes, go on.
Reminded me of the DM from the infamous airship story.
Blink dogs are cr 1/4, but I get what you mean.
My owl has 2hp, for example. A blink dog averages like 22, lol.
That's a robust familiar.
@@DeathsHood true, wizard familiars are like CR0. If you can do an actual attack with your familiar that's missing the point.
@@DeathsHood the blink dog had a much lower hp than 22
Last story: the GM or any player is in no way a person's therapist.
@3:27 BRO SAME!
Toxic fumes from volcanic areas are no joke, idc if you're an Olympian, you could die if you're not careful.
Not To mention the heat can be lethal
As far as T in the last story- how well do you have to know someone to determine if they are having a true mental health crisis or are just being an asshole?
She likely made it uo based on her bragging her strategy to get guys sleep with her is the basic sympathy situation play the damsel let the guy feel like he can be your hero by heloing you and it lures somenguys in
guys want to feel valued and these kind girls take advantage of that pretend to be weaker than they are or need more help lying about mental health for sympathy is the kind shit those kind of girls will do
Pick any wacky character or fae from folklore! Even cryptids!
No, wait, not like that!
