A stunning tour de force from two superb actors -Dorothy Tutin is marvellous and captivating . Paul Scofield is simply breathtaking in his role as a doctor who cares slightly too much for his patient. A wonderful treat - thank you.
Summary. A middle-aged woman named Deborah, who has been in a comatose state for thirty years as a result of contracting "sleepy sickness," encephalitis lethargica, awakes with a mind still that of a sixteen-year-old. She must confront a body which seems to have aged without her prior knowledge or consent.
Thank you for this amazing production. Have been looking for it for ages. The ever brilliant Dorothy Tutin. If you have any more of her other performances be great to see. She is so sadly under acknowledged.
Brilliant. That sleeping disease as it was called, was dreadful. I recall reading about a man that could not handle waking up after years being asleep.
Harold Pinter always, always created something unique. I'm so grateful to have stumbled on this!

Quite superb. Pinter, Schofield real class. A play and acting of the highest order, I'll be watching this again, thanks for posting.
Dorothy Tutin is just wonderful. I want to watch anything she has acted in.
Totally agree with you. She was one of our greatest actresses. Have you seen Ghosts which is on TH-cam?
@@JenniferEldridge-r5r I don't think so - will check it out- I may have but not sure.
I have never forgotten this since I first saw it probably in 1984. Pleasant to see this highly literate and subdued theatre not seen any more.
Thanks for this gem! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

As a young woman she is gorgeous in The Importance of Being Earnest, with Edith Evans and Joan Greenwood.
My goodness. We need a sequel!!
Loved this. I didnt expect "Any chance of a dry sherry?" 😊

I saw the film Awakenings which was about victims of this illness and it broke my heart.
Harold Pinter’s work is always miserable.
To those who are reading these comments section first - please watch at a speed of at least 1.5x. 1.75x too works fine
Apparently, you are not a fan of the Pinter Pause.
This is based on the same book by Oliver Sacks as the later Hollywood film with Robin Williams and Robert de Nero -Awakenings.
Why doesn't the doctor just tell the poor woman he is a doctor sbd shd is in hospital. Gave up after 9 minutes.
I have never liked anything from Harold Pinter.
So why click on the video dare I ask?!
@@ClassicBritishTelly I only noticed it was by Pinter after I started to watch the movie.
