When potato head encouraged people to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the ‘end of the war’ in 2020, I and a neighbour in the next road, ignored his request. We both erected a flagpole with our wonderful flag in our front gardens and had bunting of all kinds draped everywhere. We both did NOT display everything for May the 8th (the end of the war in Europe), but the end of the world war, on the 15th of August, 1945. There is no confusion with dates, knowledgeable Britons (should) choose this date, the one that Emperor Hirohito made his historic announcement on radio to the nation of Japan. Our American allies choose the commemorative date the 2nd of September, when the ‘instrument of surrender’ was signed on board USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. My friend and I are both ancient; he had family who fought in Burma and elsewhere; my father was a Sherman tank commander, seeing action in North Africa and Italy. I made a stencilled notice explaining the date for the end of WWII, not just in Europe. Additional bunting and pennants for the Army and Royal Armoured Corps were festooned in my garden. Some time later, in 2020, we both lamented most people’s lack of knowledge - even lack of interest - in the most historic event in our parents’ lives. Americans, thankfully, have no such disinterest, their splendid flag is everywhere (I believe its pattern has some connection with leaded windows in Selby Abbey in the North Riding of Yorkshire). Incidentally, my immediate neighbours seemed to avoid any conversation about my flags and bunting. Very, very sad. It is Britain....or America....or any other country in the world. If laws prevent citizens from being proud of their identity, then it is time to replace the politicians who feel they cannot support their own flag.
Being British, is firstly being Christian, moral, open-minded, with a sense of humour, and tolerant, but.. Within boundaries. It is easier for me as East European to articulate it than for a British person.
The problem with the world today is that if you look at an actual map of the world, most countries are unappealing to live in. It’s the main reason that the Afghans flown out by the Americans had nowhere within two thousand miles to fly to in 2021, following the Taliban takeover. Only the West would do. Bizarrely, if one in the 1950s were to have looked at a map of the whole world, one would have recognised more appealing places to live than is the case today. For example, Beirut was still the Paris of the Middle East in the 1950s. Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) was a haven for food production, albeit a white-dominated society, but still not unappealing as a country to most visitors. Afghanistan was an agricultural paradise, having had American agriculturalists and hydro engineers set up their own expatriate communities there in the 1950s and 60s. American city streets were largely safe; a Westerner could have visited the sights of Egypt and been in hotels without armed guards in entrances. In the 1950s people still talked of the Middle East and Persia as exotic places. Not quite glamorous, but exotic all the same. Then they became dangerous during the 1960s and gradually worse and worse places to live. Mexico in the 1950s was surely a safer place as a country overall for visitors to travel freely. The reality of Central America today is such that fears of being abducted or kidnapped would preclude visiting so freely.. in the 1960s and 70s, West Germany took in hundreds of thousands of Turkish citizens to work in factories. The Turkish population is now a few million in Germany. But how is it that in 2015, Turkey could not assimilate nearly 1 million Syrian refugees, its next-door neighbours, who ended up in Germany? You’d think Turkey could have returned the favour to Germany. I watched a CNN report in about 2017 which said that Syrian refugees in Turkey were not allowed to work there. It seems that external to the West, the rest of the world is incapable of organising or unwilling to develop their own plural societies; of even being genuinely welcome to its own next-door neighbours.; of gladdening its own citizens by becoming more Western. France helped to settle hundreds of thousands of Spanish citizens fleeing Franco in 1939. Many of their descendants have made it big in French politics, culture, art and sport. Japan and South Korea became more Western in fairly quick order in historical terms following WW2, and are essentially liberal democracies today. They are societies which have liberated the creativity of their people. Is the West too kind to the unpleasant, authoritarian world? Such that the non-Western world sees no incentive to up ITS game? And improve its own citizens lives?
They will be wanting pomp and circumstance banned from the last night of the proms next. I suppose they would want the bust of Elgar put in the same skip as the statue in Bristol.

We need to organise politically on the same line as Solidarność in Poland. In the early 1980s, Solidarność (Solidarity in English) gave rise to a broad, non-violent, anti-Communist social movement that, at its height, claimed some 9.4 million members. It is considered to have contributed greatly to the Fall of Communism. This is the way forward. In the meantime we must expose this regime abroad and urge our American friends to impose sanctions on the communist regime ruling Britain. Unfortunately, the UK has become a staunchly authoritarian state. Our institutions are politicised and in disarray, law and order a la carte and rules are only relevant when these serve the regime.
Urge our American friends? Come back to earth mate, even making Polish politians stop quietly letting in immigrants into Polnad it's oustandigly hard to do, let alone to make Americans do something.
The CoE isn't really Christian anymore as an institution. And yes, Christianity has a lot to say about Islam. The NT obviously doesn't talk about a religion which only started centuries later. Islam also has to say a lot to say about other religions. Especially Hadith/Sunnah say a lot. Christians are still allowed as second class citizens but religions, which aren't monotheistic are not allowed even that.

Sorry dumbo, but it's called the Union Flag if it's not at sea.
It's only called that when it's on a ship at sea.
Otherwise it's the union flag 😊
Ahhh, Rafe, a breath of fresh air from the foul air that is currently suffocating those of us who simply love our culture, heritage and country.
Was very pleased to meet Mr Heydel Mankoo on a day out in London , an honest and great Briton worth listening to.
‘Vibrancy’ is not our strength. 🏴🇬🇧
Are you kidding me? Just when you think you don't need warrior monks...
What a true….true…gentleman Rafe
God is being replaced by A. I . Just ask a question you will get a answer .
We should all start flying the union flag on our homes and cars 🇬🇧
I do not consent to giving away my divine right..... right! Christ is king! 🙏🇬🇧
They will be wanting pomp and circumstance banned from the last night of the proms next.
I suppose they would want the bust of Elgar put in the same skip as the statue in Bristol.
Thank you Rafe for your informed opinion.
Number 1 scholar on Islam: Sam Soloman
"the whole Islamic system is sophisticated form of barbarism. There is nothing it, that is not barbaric."
Sam Soloman is Egyptian ex-Muslim. Once professor of sharia law in Al-Azhar University.
Mohamed did first think he had encountered a demon with the message then decided it was the Archangel Gabriel.......
She looks great in that dress.
Ive just been given some really cool union flag duvet covers! 👍 👍 😊
Cultural incompatibility is a concept that needs more discussion and exploration moving forward
That's why people come to this country, for the union flag and what it represents. We have quite a few flying in our town in Suffolk.
Rafe Heydel Mankoo hombre.
The best conversation I've heard yet
Bravo to both of you ❤
The CoE isn't really Christian anymore as an institution.
Glad I'm a pagan and practice, "The old Religion"!.
Thank you NCF
I love listening to Rafe he speaks with such true knowledge and fairness. Rafe is right i do wish the government would talk and listen to more people like him 🙏🏼🇬🇧
The duty of All leader in the world is, to protect they own nation, and no the opposite.
In my opinion the first crusade was to set free Celtiberia from Islam...
Islam invaded Celtiberia in 711 BC...
Lisbon for example was set free from Islam by a coalition of European Knights (religious military orders) from Britain, Denmark, French and Portuguese....
Shakespeare,Lord Byron, Charles Dickens. Don't forget your history, you won't find this freedom of thought,in Islam
Let's hope the U.K primister is listening to him thank u Rafe
0:42 “The Bible doesn’t have anything to say about Christianity”
Did he misspeak? Lol
I think he was talking about the Old Testament. Christianity was founded on the teachings of Jesus.
Welby needs to retire as he said he would until he realised there was a Coronation to do! He’s done nothing for the Church of England except dilute the faith. If Henry VIII was about he’d be sent to the Tower!
Patriots need to go around their towns wearing Union Jack Flag clothing, canvas bags and shoes, caps etc.! The government can't tell you what you can and cannot wear! Rafe, you need a Union Jack bow tie!
Just like the sixties all over again. Not a foreign flag in sight.
I’m a lefty, who understands the value of a mixed socioeconomic system having grown up in a society that benefits from capitalism, socialism, environmentalism and cohesion.
I don’t however believe in woke ideology. I don’t believe in the erosion of our own culture nor Identity as being racist or far right. I am British 🇬🇧 💯 British female that is sick to the back teeth of mass immigration and watching my on culture being crapped on by some slavery apologists! Watching on as history is being rewritten to appease foreign agendas.
I am a capitalist with socialistic and environmental values. And I’ll stand by my ethics because that’s my basic human right and I haven’t moved country to impose my culture on others.
I’m also sick to death of the messages put on old tv series essentially apologising for our sense of humour and the values we once held that I’ll keep thank you very much.
I love your show. Well done
No! Please don't 🙏
THANK YOU RAFE,
Even if they are compatible every one of them can only enter the country with a passport and visa and the taxpayer shouldn't cover a penny of it ! End of
I dont hate them!!! I just dont want see them!!!
Excellent point on refugee reform
I’m a great believer that if you want to live in this country they should live by our laws and traditions not bringing here their laws. Because if they don’t there is going to be consequences. I’m really annoyed that this government is putting the British people second class citizens.
Beware those who push the "assimilation" line.
Thank you
Wish Rafe was running the country! 😊 ... schools should teach more history!!!
The Union Jack, however, is still flown with pride all along The Mall in London; Why the difference in attitude? Wear your British identity with pride whatever colour you are.
in reference to the mentioning of the Templar's, i'm british and christian also and i studied the knights Templar's for years, it's my favourite subject as a matter of fact, being a medieval history enthusiast. 👍🏻
I still love the Union Flag so many have died fighting for this flag over the years these people who don’t like our flag disrespect all the solders etc that have died over hundreds of years fighting for this country.
Rafe for PM!
Mrs H 🇬🇧 .... Would our KING allow our flags to be removed from all Royal residences ????
Yes I gather from NZ that st George's flag is banned? And Union Flag not good but any royal occassion the Union Flag allowed??
Love Rafe ❤️
Compatiible cultures matter! To think otherwise is madness!
Whatever happened to our Church of England leaders they have deserted us
