    Hello there, I was there too !! Thanx for this post !! The thing was : there was a blind boy in the audience (right next to me) with his mother and the boy was constantly commenting to her about what he could hear . “Now he plays on the HH…“ and so on. THIS is what made him upset. Vinnie could not understand WHAT was said and the Boy could not SEE that Vinnie got a problem (with him)
    VERY ambarressing Situation. I really love Vinnie , but I have to say : Back in those days, I exprerienced a whole lot of „explosive“ Situations with him like that during clinics . That´s how he could be back in the past….And yes , there were some outrageous persons in the audience too sometimes !! I remeber one person yelling in Amsterdam „Hey Vinnie, what about your left Hand? It sucks ….(What???)

      I love Vinnie's playing and consider his 1989 album Secrets with Allan Holdsworth to be one of the best fusion albums of all time.
      Here is my Vinnie story:
      I remember the 1989 International Drummer Meeting in Koblenz, Germany (the year the very young Sonny Emory, Jojo Mayer and Chester Thompson and others also performed there).
      After Vinnie demonstrated some fives and sevens shifts, a prankster in the audience called out:
      "That's all?"
      Vinnie immediately got pissed off and admonished him:
      "One more remark like that and I'm out of here!!"
      Totally embarrassing, especially because the audience had serenaded him with song at the beginning, since it was Vinnie's 33rd birthday....
      Someone defused the situation and shouted:
      "It was a joke, a joke!"
      Back then I had the feeling that there was a super talent with Asperger's syndrome sitting on stage.
      Strange.
      NOW I understand that Vinnie is a supersensitive human being that just wants to be treated respectfully.
      Nothing wrong with that.

      Yes you have too please and I lived in Amsterdam for a while and was always going back as much as I could especially I'n the older days like ah in 2000 .I had my Son born there in the Hospital and it was wild to say the least you could smoke yi brain's out in the Hospital and they can tell you how tall you're child will be at full growing time and you say no way to tall they can give I guess my wife some kind of shot and that will do it exactly to that desired height , give maybe an inch or two!!! And I was able to help deliver my son and I was able to do alot more ,my son Bastiaan was breached meaning upside down and his shoulder,s were and are wide,He,s a monster ,big thick bones still came out like 6'4 and still growing ! I wish that I had his bone structure and more ! He,s definitely a Dutch Boy and is strong as an ox with perfect posture, size 13 shoe and his knees and wrists and shoulders neck head , everything is thick and he,s so strong and a very good looking kid had All bright blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Very good looking and didn't get it from me younger yes now, no .Wife stunning smile and face and blue eyes too , dark tanning skin not me anymore. My son yes and my daughter, same thing tall beautiful smile and beautiful eyes . Last thing they both have thick b hair and so does my ex wife too but anyway yes some bars or Amsterdam in general ,alot of sarcastic people's in general but all solid people too, definitely!!!

    I was so excited to find this clinic. Thank you so much for posting! Unfortunate though, we all came to hear Vinnie, not some narcissistic jackass in the audience chatter the WHOLE time. I was quite annoyed, so I can’t imagine what it must have been like to be in the room, let alone be Vinnie and endure the tremendous disrespect.

    Thank you so much for sharing this. It's precious for those of us who can't go back in time to hear Vinnie's awesome clinic solo playing, and his articulate descriptions of what he does and how he does it. I've not heard Vinnie get angry before, and I think the guy must have had a crazy schedule when he was doing clinic tours and was probably extremely tired as well. All things considered I think he was very contained.

      @noelghallager4672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh there are plenty of stories about him losing his shit and throwing tantrums... he's mellowed out quite a bit though in his older years. he's a very humble and kind person these days

  • @SwappingIsSaving

    Some people have no manners. Really disrespectful to audibly chatter while somebody is trying to present his work like that. I can't bear to listen to most drum solos these days but Vinnie is on another level and is an artist in the true sense of the word. He's not what I would call a 'pattern player' like so many other drummers I could mention, as good as they are. Just pure creativity and flow.

    A lot of the magic comes from the mind he uses . He has complete freedom knowing always were he is . How to get to really understand his concepts is checking out the book The Unreel drum book and working on all the rythem scales in the beginning of the book to really understand the feel of polyrhythms and polymeric playing. Then you can really dive into his mind and DE mystify a lot of what hes doing.

    Just when I thought I owned every Vinnie Clinic.
    I attended a London Clinic with Vinnie as the main attraction,
    Most of the questions to Vinnie were about his Zappa days,
    All of a sudden Vinnie had had enough and said " Chad are you
    in the audience" he wasn't obviously but you could sense Vinnie's
    frustration with all these Zappa questions being fired at him.
    I think it might have had something to do with how Vinnie & Zappa
    parted.

    • @FStDrummer
      @FStDrummer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Did you read the description? There is someone in the audience chattering all the time which he receives as being disrespectful because he is sharing valuable information and he expects people to either listen or leave the place. I fully understand his frustration. As he says - when he was a young drummer, nobody shared anything - he had to figure it out all by himself and he is showing 50 different ways how to use flams around the drums. Paying attention is not too much to ask for. That's what ticked him off.

    • @thechinchillachannel8457
      @thechinchillachannel8457 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FStDrummer Yes, I did read the description ... "angry at someone in the audience" was not clear ... I was wondering what the audience member had done to tick him off ... I did not want to assume that it was as simple as "the audience member was talking too much".
      Obviously, I was not there, but Vinnie's response seems a little extreme as a "first response" to a loud audience member. Perhaps he was having a bad day.
