watching this while on a treadmill (after eating a bunch of Valentine's Day chocolates). edit: I hate the gym because I was terrible at phys.ed type stuff and was heavily bullied. What works for me is having a treadmiil and weights at home, and working out to videos. Time flies faster if you're listening to Forrest Hanson or a favorite comedian.

Be careful to not gaslight yourself, via what sounds like positive pushes. Be kind to yourself. Sometimes you don't like what you don't like and sometimes it's not the time. And when you live in certain places and know that how people perceive you might be harmful to yourself, it's ok to take that into consideration as well. It would be great to dance like nobody's watching, but sometimes, some ppl are - and their intentions are not pure of heart. So, you're entitled to taking care of yourself.

I love the non-judgmental tone! Some long term goals are not even "our" goals but rather are intrinsic injunctions from our family, society, culture ... all of the above. You offer workable and flexible strategies to move the dial a bit in the direction we aspire that align with our values. The mindfulness element is a game changer!

This reminds me so much of Shinzen’s Feel Good technique! I became a mindfulness teacher through his teachings because of his humility, curiosity and depth of integrity. I have heard your dad speak highly of him too. I love how you are applying this practice to daily life, for the increasing of our joy. Thank you Forest! I love your podcast 🎉

Brilliant Forrest. If giving service to others is one of the most self-rewarding activities, how can one best overcome resistance due to health & fear limitations?

Thank You, Forrest, I discovering that kind of approach on my own, because I saw that "hard way discipline" it's not working good in some cases.. I was believing it must be a some kind of not violent way to play with ourselves. And yes, this is ❣️ It's so important to sharing, and you do that in a clear way 🙏

This is really good, need to listen again to perhaps apply it/a part of it to doing my art/painting. I now have the free time but am/feel very blocked in finishing/details a painting, it's weird. Am I afraid to mess up what I've done in the first blocking stages? I don't understand it and am trying to.

I think I may understand your predicament. I wish you the very best with the freeing of your blockage! Do you mind if I said something about my own experience as an artist? I'm going to share but please forgive me if I'm overstepping.
I find that more often than not when I find myself working on a piece obsessively (not assuming this is the same for you) in order to finish it, in the "end", I inevitably feel I've gone too far. I've overworked the piece, and wish I'd stopped hours (or days/weeks) ago when I first started thinking I needed to do so much more to finish it. Does that make sense?
My point is that sometimes it's better, or at least more useful (?), to leave the piece, move on to a different one, and come back later. At that point you get to come in with fresh eyes and will more than likely know exactly what you need to do to finish the piece.
Truthfully , I don't know that I ever feel a piece is finished. I think I find a place where it's "good enough", OR become tired of working on it.. then it's done. 😉
      Good luck!!

@@leahboydmathis Thank you Leah, it is helpful and (in a weird way) comforting that another has similar thought/struggles. I have unfinished pieces, a pile of them actually lol. I do okay with the blocking in and second blocking...then there's the wall. I will make an effort to face this wall lol and return to some of my other pieces. I am learning so much that when I return to older pieces I see so much (wrong) that I've learned, it seems hopeless. I guess the circular file or gesso is the answer in some cases. 🤔Thank you for your kind response and sharing with me ☺

Which medium are you using? Maybe try another more forgivingvmedium? Just a thought. I gave up on watercolours after a reasonable length of time because it became more frustrating than enjoyable. I do love watercolour paint though, so I still do some simple things with it like 'line and wash'
