First time I heard of J. Burton was an interview I saw with Clint Smith !!! Great Stuff !!! I'm a slab side first, Glock second person !!! Stay Strong and Be Safe !!!
The front sight mods you mentioned are pretty much the same as what Elmer Keith had on his S&W 29s except he had two horizontal lines as well. It resembles a Coptic Cross. This allowed him to align the top of the rear sight to use a line to elevate his front sight for shooting at longer distances and not cover up the target as you mentioned. From what I understand they weren’t for any particular distance or load but were used as a reference point after he shot the gun enough to know how much to hold the front sight up for a unknown range. He could regularly hit the mark at 200 yds. with his 44s.
@@christian-agk-dts-google-map 1911 is more inherently reliable and easier to tune. 2011 has higher ammunition capacity. Also, nowhere near as beautiful.
Great podcast. Regarding mags, the previous generation of 9mm Wilson ETM mags without the ramp were prone to nosedive jams when loaded to 10rds for me. I sold them and switched to the Dawson Precision mags with the built-in ramp, aka "dimple", and they've proved very reliable. Seeing Wilson's updated mags with the ramp makes me want to try them again.
Skip the Wilson's and dawson. Metalform corners that market hands down. They make dawson's and many many others 9mm 10rnd 1911 mags. I shoot USPSA Single stack in either 9mm or 40. For 9mm the metalform mags are 10x better then even the new Wilson's spy because the mag tube is slightly longer and has that little extra space for the rounds to go down when inserting on a closed slide.
In regards to Pachmayr Combat Soecials I believe 1981 IPSC World Champ Ross Seyfried has two full house Combat Specials, one he used to win the Championship. He’s also a fine gunwriter as well.
I had a 9mm Commander built back in 96 on Caspian frame and slide. Mags hadn’t caught up yet so it was finicky but still got her and she runs excellent today. Also, Tripp research makes an excellent 9mm mag and cylinder and slide make a spring steel extractor that is superior to the took steel units. Good show. Thanks.
Oh my gosh to own a 1911 from either of those 2 legends would be absolutely AMAZING! I am fortunate enough to own a Colt Commander 9mm complete build Mr. Jim Garthwaite did for me that is unfired. It is absolutely beautiful and I don’t really believe in having safe queens, I shoot everything I own but with his untimely passing it may be something I just hang onto. He was truly awesome to deal with and built me a great looking accurate fighting gun that I’m 100% sure will have life saving reliability. Rick

Love Jason! Uncompromising. If you start getting complacent about quality you will start saying "that's good enough." It's like dying. You get sloppy. Heirloom's stuff is breathtaking. And, a plastic holster goes with a 1911 like white-sidewall tires on a classic Stingray. Not.
@@lukaspatty6431 I'm trying to learn how build 1911s. I know it's easier said than done. I want to start by getting a Colt Series 70 and upgrading parts on it. I wanna learn how to fit all the small parts and safeties. Then, learn how to fit a barrel and how to tighten the slide to frame fit and so on. Are there any books you recommend or other reference material that are absolute must haves? Thanks.
You are fine. Wilson stainless is damn good. Their customer service is even better. For Lube, use Royal Purple Break in oil for engines on the rails and slide. Rob Schaufland from Alchemy Custom Weapons recommends it on stainless guns.
You're fine. It might be more difficult to work on but, once the gun is completed, it's good to go. Also, it depends on the stainless steel quality and alloy. Colt adds more carbon to their stainless steel.

Clint from thunder ranch spoke highly of Jason burton years ago . That was the first heard of him 🇺🇸
The guns on his Facebook page are breathtaking. I was especially intrigued by that gold stripe front sight when I first saw it.

Will hard chrome plating of a stainless steel 1911 Government prevent the Stainless steel from galling ?
I had a Bomar with a tuner added , I owned this in 1980, gun shot well, did the tuner actually work .

For some reason stainless tends to "stick" to stainless and it ruins itself.
