Playing majors along time ago and saw a guy's face get crushed lost an eye. These guys are to good to hit middle, sometimes it is an accident but now what I see it's like a major league pitcher throwing at someone's head . Dangerous!
The real answer is to just play and not cry about balls up the middle, but if the benches are going to clear every time a guy hits one on the screws, then I actually agree. Any ball hit into the screen should be no pitch, or if you're really dumb I guess you can make it an out, which I really dislike. But this is ridiculous.

At the Major or Elite level with the high tech bats and live balls and short distance to pitcher, you'd have pitchers 0n stretchers left and right, if up the middle wasn't restricted. Wasn't that long ago that it'd be rare to see a pitcher wearing a mask. I've seen some gruesome involuntary face, nose, and dental jobs performed right there on the diamond.
Theyve forced bats to be harder, faster. The ball is much harder than yrs ago, many leagues have been using the pitchers alley as a dead ball out. Hitting up the middle is danherous even in rec league. These guy dont use off the rack sporti g good bats, theyre ordered, the end cap is taken off, hydraulically rolled in a press, then lathed off inside by 1000th of an inch. End cap glued back on. It is terribly dangerous and they all do it. These bats from companies on the web can cost 600 or more dollars.
Its one thing to go middle at this level where everyone has almost equal skill....its another thing when these guys go middle on league night vs a team thats just out there to have some fun and as a ASA/UTRIP umpire in so cal for 10 years i have seen it happen....
#15, 9 and the third player at 3:30 are the only ones with any brains or dignity. I've played softball for over 30 years. I've never taken the game serious for the simple reason that I have to work the next morning or on Monday after a weekend game. I'm not diving, sliding or fighting. None of those things feed my family. I played Div 3 football and club hockey in college so yes I'm competitive but not stupid.
I played I guess what you would call high level softball from right out of high school to around 30 years old and then starting playing baseball. Over 18 leagues until my mid 40’s and over 40 for the last 10 years. Never went back to softball and never will.

I pitched in men’s slow pitch leagues and if the opponent kept coming up the middle and if I stopped the ball, you best just walk straight to bench. I’ve been known to throw the ball off a bit.

It's because it's considered unsportsmanlike. Most of those guys can hit anywhere, and going up the middle is often time intentional. It's hard to tell if anything happened to lead up to it but usually when people go up the middle you can see it coming. Not illegal but it's poor sportsmanship. Lower levels people usually don't care because when it does happen it's usually unintentional.

I've played softball for a very long time. I place the ball where I choose too. I don't go up the middle on the pitcher intentionally, if it's in their vicinity they get "my bad pitch". Now we do have an unwritten rule in softball, like baseball. If you go to my pitcher 3 times in a game with no apologies. Your pitcher now is a live target. We will hit piss missiles middle all day. Nothing more terrifying than a 100+mph grapefruit coming at your head.

Most of you have never pitched i see. Its not about fielding your position its about not hitting a line drive when your 6'5 275 and can smash it out of the park. The pitcher is the closest to the hitter and dont really stand a chance protecting himself hint the catchers gear he is wearing. Middle is open after that so be ready for your pitcher to receive it right back.

I played AAA then after played softball as a pitcher... growing up in chicagp learned playining 16 in unlimited arch.. so pitchinging 12" slow.. I could be standing behind 2nd base by the time the batter swung the bat... I could also control the pitch enough to prrevent a ball getting hit directly back at me... If bases we loaded with 2 outs.... I squared up and wanted the ball hit to me to knock it down or catch a line drive... If you have to play with gear as a pitcher... use a limited flight ball.

Just my opinion first I don't think the pitcher was intentionally throwing balls cuz if you notice they were not that bad. Some people would have swung at ball 3 and pulled it down the 3b line. Secondly I don't think Collins was actually aiming at the pitcher, I think he just took a hard swing at a 3-1 pitch and just centered it up on the bat. I don't think he would have hustled out of the box as hard as he did, plus he paid no attention to the ball after he hit it and just ran. I think all of this has to do with either the score at this point in the game or that he swung 3-1.... but who knows.

Its not like anyone can completely control that. a line drive to the mound is inevitably going to happen at some point.
You miss the point of the game. This isn't baseball, contact with the ball (travelling 26 mph) is a given. Reaching base successfully 70% of the time is the goal.

There should be a designated fighting area in softball, a nice 15x15 ring just outside the field. You can enter with mutual combat, but your game is over.
This happens all the time in slow-pitch I don't see why this is worth getting upset about unless there's context that suggests it was intentional. Plus the pitcher is covered head to toe in padding.
This is why we play modified softball with different ball: we all have careers and families to get back to. Plus fast pitching gives the game more of an edge. Then again we play with ex pro players too.

I've hit line drives at pitchers never meaning too normally I wave "My Bad" and afterwards check if pitch is all good. Times if I hit the pitch anywhere above the waist I just call myself out or walk cause I never mean to hurt them its an enjoyable sport to get outside play. This Catcher took too much offense if I were his teammate tell him go walk yourself home dude besides pitch is fine hit in foot sure its bruised but he'll walk.

There should be a designated fighting area in softball, a nice 15x15 ring just outside the field. You can enter with mutual combat, but your game is over.
This happens all the time in slow-pitch I don't see why this is worth getting upset about unless there's context that suggests it was intentional. Plus the pitcher is covered head to toe in padding.
This is why we play modified softball with different ball: we all have careers and families to get back to. Plus fast pitching gives the game more of an edge. Then again we play with ex pro players too.

@@Eddiefacts He was upset because they were up 15 and it's a 3-1 count. Pitch was down the middle, a little outside, but still the perfect ball to go middle. For whatever reason, Cincinatti weekends always end up with a ton of pitchers getting shotgunned.

I've hit line drives at pitchers never meaning too normally I wave "My Bad" and afterwards check if pitch is all good. Times if I hit the pitch anywhere above the waist I just call myself out or walk cause I never mean to hurt them its an enjoyable sport to get outside play. This Catcher took too much offense if I were his teammate tell him go walk yourself home dude besides pitch is fine hit in foot sure its bruised but he'll walk.
