I haven't fenced in almost 10 years, I was captain of my HS fencing team. Landing one of these were the most memorable moments of the sport, we called them sky hooks.
Club mate of mine also called them wrist picks. Transition at 6:47 was a little hard on the eyes and the monochrome filter at 7:02 and 8:19 made the action a little hard to see. Great compilation.
thanks for the feedback. the monochrome was my attempted solution to both make blurry videos more watchable and to make repeat viewings of a touch more enjoyable
Outstanding work guys! Magnificent fencing on display (who is this Iliasz? insane skills) and some really coachable points. 8:00 had to watch twice to see when the stop cut landed.
Counterattack by entering distance. Isn't that what we Jurassic fencers used to call Attack in Preparation? No, I'm not being critical. I'm being nostalgic. I did enjoy the part about the hand being a good target for counterattack but a poor one for attack.
these days if you say attack in preparation it is basically said with the caveat that if there are two lights it would be a touch for the person who made the attack in preparation. i wanted to distinguish that from a counterattack which is an action you make knowing that if it is two lights it will be against you

Stop hits in sabre are so much more satisfying than in foil
It so much easier to do

Love the ‘time bar’ innovation on the text screens
Axel Vekemans thank you I really like this as well. You should expect them on every text even in every I make going forward until the end of my days 😁
Awesome video. As a an intermediate sabre fencer I really learn a lot from your videos!
Good I am so glad to hear that 🥺
I once lost to Iliasz 15-1... The one touch I got was a stop cut!
Oh love the sabre fencing compilation❤️🙌🏻
some of the best quality video clips you have ever shown, great work. Enjoyed that one
In 40 years, "stophit" or "counterattack" ) has been the only term I've heard for this action.
The Gemesi/Samele one is legendary.

Awesome video! Consider myself Subscribed.
Glen Sj thank you friend 😁
Omg if I fenced saber it would be all counter attacks and wrist touches. I’m gonna hack the game 😂
Only if you're hand speed is fast enough!
DO IT!
Do it. Especially if you have great point control. Only thing I would say is to party on your way out.
*parry* lmao
Which bout is that unbelievable last touch by Gemesi from?
Hi, European Championships - team. Fell off my couch when I first saw it
@@eyepatch75 Thanks! Do you have a link to the full bout, or do I need to dig it out of a livestream?
@@teakew8217 I'd search FIE's channel. It took place in Novi Sad, IRCC.

Won was the God of counter attack and stopcut, don't you belive it ? Check Olympic final 2012 😃
there was a lot of Won in this video. unfortunately i cant include a ton of Olympic footage in any video or it will get flagged and taken down...
Oh man...Won's skyhook on Dolniceanu in the team final...while Dolniceanu 's doing a wonderful flunge. The reaction by Won still blows my mind.
