At the end, the decade was the most important part of the tones). Josh use it for a few guitars part here and there(on recent record aswell), sure, but it was Nick bass tone on song for the deaf. And the best part is "we will start with clean tone because...." when actually, QOTSA is mostly Clean tones lol. I remember a video Troy did on Reverb channel where the guy try to replicate the tones on their popular songs: Troy: "too much gain..too much gain...pretty close, but too much gain. Believe it or not, but it was mostly clean when we record it!!!". Guess the saturation come for the broken HP's, Vintage crappy mics they use to reord it. living room gd did a video on the decade...and get pretty close to Nick and Josh tones. Troy use old solid state Peavey too. His own company build amp blending the power amp section of Bassman and AC30 with solid state preamp to get the best of his former rigs(handwiring AC30+Peavey musician head). And on Villains, they dind't use amp for the most part...guitars to JHS color box(neve channel in a pedal) direct to Console(no IR or amp sim at all, like old David Bowie and some Stones/ ZEP stuff)...but stiil use the decade on a couple songs. Peavey needs to bring back the Bandit 65 Solo and give it a volume control on top of pre and post gain. To be honest, my old Kustom KGA 8" (think it was a trans-tube) put all vintage Peavey combos to shame.
This amp as a 60-100 w 2X10/2X12 combo would be KILLER! (With a matching swivel extension cabinet) for live/band applications. with stereo chorus and reverb/delay.
In the early 80s I used to slave my 100 watt plexi with a decade for some really Incredable stage tones. The secret was a 57 in the cone of the decade was always what the pa was fed. Everyone asked me how I got those tones from that Marshall. To this day, that is the tone I create with every amp I plug into.
Interesting. The Saturation circuit of the original Decade series definitely have their own mojo. I just hope they consider reissuing the Renown amp. Those are magic.
I spent a lot of time in the southern U.S. playing through Peavy equipment, and with Peavy equipment in the early 80's. I'm happy they built bullet proof equipment I could afford and the stuff lasted well past my final payment to the local music store where I purchased it on credit. I do think I have permanent back issues from that T-60 bass that might have weighed more than the amp I played it through. The Josh Homme signature is probably not my thing but best of luck either way, seriously I'm glad the company is still around!
Peavey Amps are great and that is ALL Models I have an old Stereo Chorus 270w of GOODNESS it is just fantastic have an OLD Teal Bandit as well - AWESOME
My first proper amp was an 80's Peavey Bandit. Had an absolutely killer distortion and perfect for that Ratt/Motley/Dokken sound when i used my Jacksons with it
I had a Marshall jcm800 100w head and 4x10 non slope cab, I thought it was great until I played it side my side with a friend's Black Widdow loaded TNT - I tried swapping but he had heard what I had heard. Today I have a TNT and no interest for a Marshall whatsoever! Although my main rig today is a Hughes and Kettner for practicing, does both guitar and bass and HARKE for smoothe, punchy, creamy clean, domineering power!

LOVE Peavey and the silver stripe 80s aesthetic. You can have my early 80s Peavey Rockmaster 120-watt all tube head when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands. It's way more versatile than any comparable Marshall from the same era.
I know I am old (62) but $300 plus tax is ridiculously overpriced to me for that little puke amp! Back in the early 90’s I wanted a new teal striped Bandit, but $300 was kind of steep to me at the time. So I settled on a used Bandit 65 for $165. You do realize that a teal striped Bandit or any model Bandit is a totally superior amp to a Decade right? 12” speaker 85 watts for the teal. Anyway I still have the Bandit 65. In the last 4 months, I picked up 2 more Peavey combos because the prices were so ridiculously low I couldn’t resist, even though I also have a teal striped Envoy (35 watts, 10” speaker) that I paid less than $80 for on eBay about 10/12 years ago. Envoy is also nicer than the Decade or Decade Too! Last weekend I picked up a used Studio Pro 40 for under $50 & about 4 months ago a teal striped Studio Pro 110 for $40. Granted both Studio Pros are going need some minimal work to get them to spec. The Pro 40 just needs some tinkering with the reverb tank & the Pro 110 requires a good cleaning (dust/rusty jacks/mold) & deOxit spray in the pots. Those 2 Studio Pros under $100! I am fairly certain I can get a Josh Homme sounds out of any of those four different model PVs I have. They are all solid state amps & have similar built in distortion circuits. @@rodmorrison47 The Bandit 65 & Studio Pro 40 that I have definitely have a similar if not the same distortion circuit as the Decade. I was not trying to get on your case or anything, just trying to express (BTW the PV Express is another superior offering) my opinion & possibly inform others. $300 is a lot of money for a puny 10 watt amp with an 8 inch speaker. The only reason why the prices are so high is because Josh Homme said he uses it occasionally in the studio. Otherwise, those amps would only cost $20-$30 used all day long & there would be no reissue!
What's funny is, you can find a similar era Peavey amp with serious power and full sized speakers, footswitchable Saturation and reverb, for peanuts - because it's not the exact amp from the video they saw. Peavey SS stuff is like legos in this era - Greg Ginn ran a PA head because it was running basically a simplified Mace preamp, or rather, four of them. Fun circuit, good for all kinds of rootsy and classic tones. "Saturation" is like stacking a fuzz on a dirty/crunchy amp, so if you like that, you'll like this. Not surprising that Josh likes it. If you're expecting metal, teal stripe or newer. $299 isn't bad, considering dorks were paying twice that to some guy who paid $50 for it and flipped it to some dude who's younger than the capacitors in the amp. The upgrades basically make it a mini Encore sans reverb, and the speaker out would allow big cabs, where it would shine brighter. Neat.

I gig with an early 80's Backstage 30, a real stripe Envoy 110 and a silver stripe Special 112 (right name?), and all together the three cost me about $240. One needs to spend a little extra care on the EQ, and a compressor helps the clean channel sing, but guitar nerds often approach me in disbelief. Reliable and cheap as chips.
Hear me out here: Peavey Bandit but with a tube 30W 6L6 power section. This was my first ever guitar amp, I loved it 😊
I always heard Josh was trolling when he said this was the amo he used
Nothing beats the good old Peavy Bravo for practice and recording.
i still got mine , from the late 80és ! - it runs on batteries aswell !
Looking forward to you posting the video when trying out the Ulv guitars 😀
I have one in my basement… with a 15 inch speaker .. classic sound
Pretty good sounding
I had a small Peavey in the 80s I remember the silver strips down the sides and it had Reverb to , don't know what Peavey it was but I loved it and played the shit out of it .
I've been looking to get another Peavey-I had a Deuce in college that was LOUD. Very clean sounding amp also. . . .
Love Peavey, have had a Bandit, a Bravo and a Rage, also use a PV6 mixer.Harvey Peavey philosophy was selling to public for less ( originally at least ).Glad JH has endorsed them ,like Joe Satriani before, it creates a healthy place where Peavey will make more of their goodies!
It sounds exactly as expected 😂
i remember my old peavey bandit back in the day. Sounded amazing for the price it went those old days. a well and unique Non-Tube Amp will always we welcomed on my rig! amps like Trace Elliot, Marshall Mosfet, and Peavey are amazing pieces of gear
Good shout getting a ginger to play the homme amp
this amplifier sounds good in a mix with Ampeg VT-40 and Vox AC50
Some of the best blues players at Kingston Mines And all over the Blues Bars of Chicago from 80s to today still use Solid State PEAVEY I play out with my PEAVEY from 88 and never broke down yet.
Had one and a metal zone got me through the early years
This proves that PEAVEY still is a great all made in America company!
Love that the first riff was Prince
Been needing one of these for quite awhile.....might even get two (too) to run em in stereo 👯
Would love to see a 2x12 stereo chorus re-release...those things were beasts and sounded unreal. 120 watts too
Ordered.
Those grey knob Peavey amps were everywhere in UK schools and colleges but sleeper amps , the bandit was killer
I’m getting one! Kinda depressing, however, that NAMM background ambience sounds just like a Wetherspoons! Ahhhhh matey boy just started playing I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER!
LoL, I had the original, I even modded it with a rechargable battery and a charging circuit. If I had known it was a keeper :)
On the serious side, I believe you can use virtually any amp, it's all in the talent of the user.
The Olds peavey are My favorito transistor amps! Back stage with spring reverb ufff Is mi favorite practice and tiny performamce amp and eat Pedals very good
I’ve had a Rage for home recording since they came out.. it’s mint and records great!
My 1982 Peavey T-15 still Rocketh!
Can't wait for the review on the F1200B with it's 610 Cab!
I’ve had my ‘84 peavey studio 40 for more than 20 years and it’s just the best amp for me. Although, I need to have some repairs done on it.
I’ve still got a peavey backstage plus 35watt from the 80’s which sound and look pretty similar to these. Can also get the same fuzzy sound like homme gets with this.
I've got a pair of Slate VXT headphones on to listen to the mic'd up tones coming from that little Peavey...it sounds spectacular....
Thought he used Gorilla amps as preamps mostly? Didn’t know it was Peavey that much! Learn something new everyday!
Reissue the Teal Stripe Bandit! I have never owned a better sounding solid state amp than a Teal Stripe Bandit.
Also the little Teal Rage amps sounded great for a small practice amp.
I miss my Bandit112. I have my eye on one of those and a stereo chorus 212.
Nice little box
Nice neck sound. Is the Bandit back too?
Was totally jealous of my friend who had a Peavey bandit back in the day!
Peavy's back? Can't beat the 80's look
Yeah, I want one. Good price, too.
Except it's more expensive than every other silver stripe currently for sale on the planet.
@@trev3971 ha ha--except that every used Peavey decade currently on Reverb is $300 and up.
Was all going so well up until 4:07. Oh well.
"there goes your youtube money" haha
The Cream (Eric Clapton) quip was spot on. I want to hear what an ES-335 sounds through that.
Zappa used to use a little pignose 2w amp for the sound.
Hear me out here: Peavey Bandit but with a tube 30W 6L6 power section.
Voice it for a celestion neodym speaker, make the cabinet ultralight but with that classic 80's styling and an FX loop you have a winner. This is catered straight at us guys that grew up with bandits growing up, those amps are the unsung Heroes of countless American garage bands, we deserve a grown up version.
I'd play Peavey again but my back can't stand it and I have zero use for a 6505 (nobody needs that much gain) and if it came with one of those ultra cool cabinet racks that's be the chef's kiss
I'd argue that the grown up version of a Bandit is just a Bandit, because adults know you don't need tubes to sound just fine in a bar band.
