His car radio was actually stolen. He couldn't afford to have it replaced right away so he had to sit in silence. This is one of my absolute favorites.
I always thought it meant something more like everyday life and things your used to and whatever else and when that’s taken away you lose “the sound” your so used to you sit in silence
@@stephenallen9209 The song is definitely filled with all kinds of metaphors but it is based on an actual event. The song was inspired by an event which had happened to frontman Tyler during college. In an interview, he explained that one day he arrived to class late and forgot to lock his car's door. After class, he returned to discover that someone had broken into his car and stolen everything inside, including the radio, GPS, and CDs. At the time, he didn't have the finances necessary to afford to replace what was lost. The subsequent experience of going on without his car radio made him realise "music can act as a distraction and can get in the way of where your mind wants to go."
@@meggsy82 for the win ☺️ this song is based on real events. A lot of Tyler's songs reference depression, he knows what it's like because he's suffered through it most of his life. A lot of TOP's music is very relatable. If @Metal Guy Reacts hasn't listened to the song "Lane Boy" he needs to with lyrics like "I wasn't raised in the hood, But I know a thing or two about pain and darkness If it wasn't for this music, I don't know how I would've fought this" he once again mentions his depression, although that's not what this is about. I would second this. HOWEVER, I would strongly suggest watching the Live Room version and NOT the official video. I have two basic reasons for saying something like this. First, the Live Room is a live-in-studio version. You will not lose anything whatsoever from the performance. Some may not like this second reason, and I acknowledge that it is only my opinion, but I would still like to throw it out there. Migraine is easily one of my favorite songs by them, if not my actual favorite. My problem is that the official video for this song is, I think, the one and only time that the band did something "just like every other band." There could have been all sorts of legitimate reasons for that, but as a video, it is simply not as thought out or purposeful as their others. And bear in mind, I am only dissing the video here, not the content of the song itself. I would easily consider the Live Room version the iconic performance of this song. Here is the link to that version, but of course, the choice is entirely yours. For what it is worth, there are several other awesome performances from the Live Room session. Any of the other original versions/videos for those songs would be fine to react to first, then re-react to the live room versions. And, as is the case with so many of the songs they re-think, it will not be redundant. You could easily react to multiple versions in one video, and I do not think you would be bored!! Cheers! Yeah Sarah and John have a good point. The live room version is good and the official video is boring. I think i agree with them to do live room but the only setback i see, ((or maybe it doesn't matter depends on what you personally prefer)), is that the lyrics are more clearly heard/understood with the video/studio version. So yeah live room better but hopefully you catch the lyrics clearly because the lyrics to that song are so profound poetic and deep. (but i agree that live room is better.) Or hey if you do the live room and don't catch the lyrics you can always see the other one later on your own time if you're interested.

You'll find that his (singer songwriter Tyler Joseph) lyrics are profound and very rich in metaphors (sometimes to point of saying cryptic). He's a poet and very deep.
While you truly get into TOP it's actually quite important to understand the lore a little, there will be mentions of many metaphoric figures and places, including blurryface, nico, dema, trench and bandidos. In short, Tyler has created these places and characters in his head to have an easier way of grasping and explaining all his thoughts around suicide, glorifying suicide, his insecurities, the importance of support and a lot more. There's been cryptic puzzles for people to solve, codes and clues. This IS a very loreheavy band and without the lore the music is for the most part still great, but it adds loooots of dimension to these songs knowing the little things that otherwise make no sense. It will especially be important in the album Trench, but also in Blurryface(album before trench) and Scaled and Icy (which is a sort of countinuation of trench but also a sort of bridge between trench and their next coming album which hasn't been announced yet). All of these albums offer some different sounds, but the theme overall has always been about mental health and anti-suicide, it's even what inspired their name.

I came out of high school with crippling social anxiety and things I didn’t want to think about, and I was so afraid of silence and being in my own head. I totally agree...I've seen loads of live shows from Beastie Boys - Rush - Salt n Pepa - Scorpions - Bon Jovi - Passenger - Roger Waters - DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince 🤣 Ya that happened - Neil Diamond - KISS, etc...but these guys, these TWO GUYS blow them all away. Their shows are so deep yet uplifting and powerful. I tell any poster..if you like their music...SEE THEM LIVE! You won't regret it...if possible get in the pit, especially for "Trees" WOW👏👏👏
I agree. I took my daughters to the final show of the Bandito tour in Tulsa and got completely sucked in by everything going on in the building. The performance of “Trees” at the end was crazy to be there for.
As a metal guy, I have seen them with my boys. The last time, it was one of the best shows ever. He had a great hardcore vocal, would love to see him to an album.
His Car Radio was actually stolen which was the inspiration for the song, but I think the Car Radio is really a metaphor for anything that keeps our minds distracted from what's really going on Id recommend checking out: Ode to Sleep Lane Boy Trees (Live from Fox Theater)* *their live stuff is amazing and they did a show at Fox Theater where they had it professionally recorded so its not just like someone's cell phone video
Yeah you got the message to the song right. Without a car radio (which really happened to him) or a tv show etc.. if you have to "sit in silence" your thoughts go out of control (like they did for him.. and then he says ""oh am i too deep? stop thinking. i liked it better when my car had sound"")
Very powerful song....his depression is real. Love TOP...chk out...Live concert "Holding onto You" or the official video. Either one, or comparison of both!
It’s crazy, I never knew the meaning of what he was saying until someone broke it down: “And for us to think is to be alive And I will try with every rhyme To come across like I am dying To let you know you need to try to think” He’s basically saying he will try to come across like he is dying to let us know that we need to live. Such a powerful message.
This song hit super close for me and provided me with a im not struggling alone or im not the only one who feels this way moment. Ive got someone very close to me in my life so i would never let myself end my own life but when things were really difficult and i was seriously lacking in hope i would think about getting myself into an accident just to make things pause. No payments due. No work, no assignments. I would get a break from everything weihging on me. So when he says i could pull the steering wheel it hit me hard. When he says peace will win and fear will loose it made me feel a little hope. The style, the way the style changes, the raw emotional surge of music, the video. Its all so awesome.
I spent years falling asleep to movies, tv shows, or podcasts because I couldn’t do silence and I couldn’t do the things I thought about with music. To this day I wear headphones almost 24/7 listening to podcasts or stuff like this/video essays because I can’t exist in quiet.
The way you just sat in silence at the end was priceless...TØP is one of the most diverse and powerful groups I've ever seen live...you've stumbled onto a band that draws it's fan base in by truly captivating and truthful lyrics to amazing musical diversity. These guys just won't be put into a BOX! My daughter introduced me to them several years back and I've loved all their music since. Do yourself a favor and watch the videos and listen to their music in order...they're taking their fans on a journey. Also if you haven't done it yet look up Level of Concern...they recorded it during the pandemic, cool jam. Great job...I'll be looking out for more. Btw...if the Skeleton Clique (their fans) get wind of your reaction expect your followers to EXPLODE!🤣🤣
Fab reaction and Car Radio is a great song! I see the realizations we all went through - ‘’mmm, what genre is this?’’ ‘’There’s no structure to this song’’ ‘’Oh, they’re ‘pop’’’ ‘’ Oh no, they’re rap’’ ‘’Ah, I see, alternative rock’’ ‘’Eh ?? EDM??’’ ‘’Wait - what?? Folk?’’ Yep - they are all of the above and many many more!!!( you’ll see as you get further on your TØP journey) There’s nothing us TØP fans like better than watching someone fall in love with the genius of Tyler and Josh! You’ll be one of us before you know it!!!! 💛 I may also be biased but I also think we are the best, most supportive fan base I’ve ever been part of! (And I’m an ‘older’ fan in my 40’s who has been involved in various music scenes since my teens in one form or another through gig reviews, journalism etc and I Love (almost ALL) music lol! Great channel, subbed from 🏴 Scotland!!
I totally agree. I’m 55 and have seen them 4 times in concert. Best concerts I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot starting in the early 80’s. Once you start down the rabbit hole it’s hard to stop. 👍
There's a lot of depth to Tyler's lyrics, that a lot of casual fans tend not to notice. Double meanings are everywhere. I would recommend Heavy Dirty Soul, Fade Away, Leave the City, Taxicab or Drown.
This song is a musical masterpiece!!!! Doesn’t follow normal song structure but the rollercoaster of emotion this song draws out of you is what music is all about!!!!
I can’t wait for you to dive more into this band. Tyler Joseph has got to be one of the greatest lyricists of all time. Also a great band live. Highly recommend trees live. And some of their great songs: ode to sleep, migraine, lane boy, heavydirtysoul, guns for hands, holding onto you, the hype, chlorine, my blood. I love the song house of gold though it’s lyrics aren’t as hard hitting and the video for it is sick. The new song, level of concern, is cool. Their cover of can’t help falling in love by Elvis is fabulous. This list could be endless truly. They are so talented.
It’s so tough to pause during their stuff 🤘🏼 That’s a great sign! I wish their record company wasn’t so picky though. I’ve had a bunch of their videos get blocked anyway, with more frequent pausing 🙁
I'm beginning to realize everyone says react to this TOP song or that, I'm like oh absolutely!!! I haven't seen anyone mention "Level of Concern" and definitely "Saturday" from Scaled and Icy, which actually stands for scaled back and isolated referencing the 2020 pandemic. It also an anagram for "Clancy is dead" if you follow the lore. And with Twenty One Pilots there's a lot of lore to follow & the Clique loves it. I know Scaled and Icy was not out when this video was created but still you got to listen to "Saturday."😂😂😂💖💖💖 I'm also for "Lane Boy" "HeavyDirtySoul" "The Judge" "Migraine" "We Don't Believe What's On TV" IF you can find it, "Kitchen Sink" .... And do many others. I admit, I'm not much of a Trench fan but "Chlorine" is fantastic!
If a song is blocked because of the video, just use a lyric video. You can watch the video on your phone, laptop, tablet... Or just comment on the song itself. All of the above works. I know I could watch the video on my phone, while watching/listening to you on my laptop or TV.
The chorus; "I have these thoughts, so often I ought. To replace that slot with what I once bought. 'Cause somebody stole my car radio. And now I just sit in silence."
If you want to get a feel for a TOP live performance I HIGHLY recommend watching Trees (Live from Fox Theater). Other videos/songs I’d recommend are Chlorine, Fairly Local, and Addict With a Pen. Also the whole Blurryface/Dema storyline is a trip. But be careful it’s a serious rabbit hole.
Best band of the last decade... You most do Ode sleep, ride, level of concern, lane boy, fairly local, heavy dirty soul, migraine, truce and trees. The whole studio sessions series is amazing you will see how talented they are - peace.. just subscribed..
Love your videos! Just wanted to pop on and say keep up the good work! As a newer channel may I make a suggestion? There's quite a bit of reaction stuff on TH-cam, you're going to inevitably do a lot of the same content as other people. What makes channels keep me coming back and engaging is when creators really give their THOUGHTS on the song and or visuals. You seem like a super interesting guy and I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't wait to see what you have coming up! Very best of luck to you and yours!
Hey Crystal! Thanks for the feedback and for watching the video. Most of my favorite reaction channels dive into the tunes as well. Since I’m reacting “live” I’m very in the moment. So it depends heavily on what a song brings out in me. Some songs I’ve reacted to only bring out maybe 3-4 minutes of commentary, others much more. I think it depends a lot on the song for me. Some artists recently that by have thrown me back were; The Weeknd, NF, BTS, and some of the Dimash videos. I’ve thought about diving into the Wiki for some of the songs after listening, for fun and insight, but I’m not sure people would stay on that long 😂
@@MetalGuyReacts so for me I really truly enjoy the creators that have the wiki pulled up especially if you're doing requests from your audience members. If we're out here requesting songs that really mean a lot to us the fact that you take the time to look more into the band and kind of the meaning behind the songs is just so cool. Of course you're getting hit with tons of different bands and genres so I'm sure that's something to consider if you're willing to do and maybe it's something on a case-by-case basis you know there's nobody that I know of that really devotes a time for like maybe patrons to do their most important songs or artists and you could devote some extra learning time into that. Just throwing it out there. Like I said and I really truly enjoy your channel it's awesome to see someone that's well spoken! NF has some insane stuff! Super deep, I'm old but some of these young creators are just amazing with what they come up with. hands down my favorite artist of the last few years was Lil Peep.
@@crystalbreen7062 Thank you so much. That’s good to know that you don’t mind the Wiki pulled up. I’ve been thinking of that for a while. Could be a great addition for certain songs 🙂 I’m a weird rock music history buff 😂 When I was a kid, 8-9 years old, I was watching documentaries on bands and reading books on Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath and so many other bands. My mom thought it was the funniest thing. She’d come home and I’d be watching VH1 Behind the Music on Fleetwood Mac at 10 years old. Sometimes I worry I’ll go to far down the rabbit hole and people will get bored 😆
@@MetalGuyReacts no way!
Guns for Hands
This song live is SICK
His Car Radio was actually stolen which was the inspiration for the song, but I think the Car Radio is really a metaphor for anything that keeps our minds distracted from what's really going on
Id recommend checking out:
Ode to Sleep
Lane Boy
Trees (Live from Fox Theater)*
*their live stuff is amazing and they did a show at Fox Theater where they had it professionally recorded so its not just like someone's cell phone video
Neon gravestones it's a must listen when you start getting through twenty one pilots' discography. Great reaction anyway 😁
It’s crazy, I never knew the meaning of what he was saying until someone broke it down:
“And for us to think is to be alive
And I will try with every rhyme
To come across like I am dying
To let you know you need to try to think”
He’s basically saying he will try to come across like he is dying to let us know that we need to live.
He's talking about intrusive thoughts. I struggle with these occasionally as well.
I spent years falling asleep to movies, tv shows, or podcasts because I couldn’t do silence and I couldn’t do the things I thought about with music. To this day I wear headphones almost 24/7 listening to podcasts or stuff like this/video essays because I can’t exist in quiet.
No style, just pure art and genius ❤️
I see the realizations we all went through -
‘’mmm, what genre is this?’’
‘’There’s no structure to this song’’
‘’Oh, they’re ‘pop’’’
‘’ Oh no, they’re rap’’
‘’Ah, I see, alternative rock’’
‘’Eh ?? EDM??’’
‘’Wait - what?? Folk?’’
Yep - they are all of the above and many many more!!!( you’ll see as you get further on your TØP journey)
There’s nothing us TØP fans like better than watching someone fall in love with the genius of Tyler and Josh! You’ll be one of us before you know it!!!! 💛
I may also be biased but I also think we are the best, most supportive fan base I’ve ever been part of!
Ode to Sleep. Chlorine. Lane Boy. Pretty much ANY of their songs! Loved this reaction! ☺️
This has always been my favorite by them. Such a raw take on their sound and the emotionality of the lyrics.
Such unique song structure
OMG YASSSSSS Honestly this is still one of my fav songs of twenty one pilots
There's a lot of depth to Tyler's lyrics, that a lot of casual fans tend not to notice. Double meanings are everywhere. I would recommend Heavy Dirty Soul, Fade Away, Leave the City, Taxicab or Drown.
Keep heading down this hole. Tyler is an insane writer. Ode To Sleep is the go to.
Nice! Please do Ode to Sleep and Lane Boy...
I wish I could hear this song for the first time forever.
This song is a musical masterpiece!!!! Doesn’t follow normal song structure but the rollercoaster of emotion this song draws out of you is what music is all about!!!!
I saw them live twice and this song live gave me full body chills 😍
Twenty One Pilots is tremendously eclectic, check their album Trench, it's really cool
Yeah they do all music genres and that's what makes them amazing!
Definitely should do Lane Boy soon and early on. Excited for the journey!
People- what is Twenty one pilots musical genre ?
Me- Yeah!
They dropped a Christmas song!! Gotta react. Christmas saves the year!!
As a fellow top fan who’s gotten into metal in the past years this made me extremely happy to come across
"Lane Boy"!!!!!!💕
This is their best track! You should check out “Trees” also.
You just made me realize after a long time of listening to this song. This song doesn’t have a chorus. Lol holy crap
IT HAS A CHORUS....do yall have ears that work?! JESUS!
Wish you would check out more twenty one pilots.. I think you would enjoy fairly local or jumpsuit right off the top, goner is really good too
🔥🔥 great reaction. I love this one. Looking forward to more! And fingers crossed we get to see the blocked ones soon :)
thanks for reacting🔥🔥
"I'm going to cut in more often so that this qualifies as commentary." Waits until 1 min. & 10 seconds in before cutting in.
It’s so tough to pause during their stuff 🤘🏼 That’s a great sign! I wish their record company wasn’t so picky though. I’ve had a bunch of their videos get blocked anyway, with more frequent pausing 🙁
Nice reaction. Check out Jumpsuit. It's great!
I know Scaled and Icy was not out when this video was created but still you got to listen to "Saturday."😂😂😂💖💖💖
I'm also for "Lane Boy" "HeavyDirtySoul" "The Judge" "Migraine" "We Don't Believe What's On TV" IF you can find it, "Kitchen Sink" .... And do many others. I admit, I'm not much of a Trench fan but "Chlorine" is fantastic!
For your enjoyment, here is the behind-the-scenes for this video: th-cam.com/video/Jvj38GolPoM/w-d-xo.html
If a song is blocked because of the video, just use a lyric video. You can watch the video on your phone, laptop, tablet... Or just comment on the song itself. All of the above works. I know I could watch the video on my phone, while watching/listening to you on my laptop or TV.
The chorus;
"I have these thoughts, so often I ought. To replace that slot with what I once bought. 'Cause somebody stole my car radio.
And now I just sit in silence."
Would love to see you do Lane Boy. Also another one that's great is Tear In My Heart
I love your BTS reactions, they're awesome. I'm so glad you're enjoying TØP, their music is so amazing. Definitely one of my favorite bands.
By the way, I should add, great reaction!
Could be a great addition for certain songs 🙂
I’m a weird rock music history buff 😂 When I was a kid, 8-9 years old, I was watching documentaries on bands and reading books on Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath and so many other bands.
Music is a universal experience and in these times to be able to sit and share something so personal with someone else and to watch someone discover music that we all find a connection to for whatever reason enough to want to share it with others is a beautiful human experience that you're doing for all of us!
It is a community and you do I have real people out here that actually do follow and will care about you and your family and your thoughts.
Oh man their concerts live are soooooo goooood.
React to lane boy if you haven't yet. It's about him not choosing a certain 'lane' and category for his songs x
Why aren't anyone recommending "Holding Onto You"? It was the first song I heard from them!
I like how at the end of the song, you just sat in silence.
please react to more twenty one piltos : lane boy,ode to sleep 🔥🔥🔥
it doesn't need a chorus bc that instrumental and the "ohhhhhh" part serve as the hook
BUT IT HAS A FKN CHORUS! are y'all daft?
did your mom have any kids that survived??
Can you imagine the energy in that building that night...I get it from the video
I’d recommend addict with pen UG studios session. 🤞🏻
Hi! New sub here. I'd recommend that you listen to Lane Boy or Ode to Sleep. Thanks!
I’m not a religious person and I know this band is, but I still like their stuff
This song explains the art of music ❤
Fun fact, there is a video online of them performing the song, after ehich a girl in the front row gave them an actual car radio. At this point, we're just happy no one is bringing their blood, chlorine, and a house of gold.
The part with the car radio line is the chorus. Happens 3x
its his heart. the radio is his heart
trees live reaction pleaseeee
Me too! The hair on the face would tickle and itch me like crazy! Ugh! 😩😵
Do Migrane next
Recommend live version of Trees and Golden Brown by the Stranglers - nice reaction, good job.
Awesome so glad I found you ❤ subbed, bell on, thumbs up. About to binge.
Thanks Suz G! I’m having so much fun checking out all this music. I’m very far behind lol.
His car radio was actually stolen while he was in college. He forgot to lock his door one day when he as late for class and everything was stolen.
About the lost chorus... They were really fighting against conventional song structure at this point.
Radiohead and twenty one pilots... both unique and great
It's like a Tyler Poetry Slam. 👍
@ 3:25 if you're struggling to identify this genre, I humbly suggest this would be "angst-hop"
Isle of flightless birds is a really good one by them.
I recommend you Neon Gravestones of them too please 😊
Kitchen Sink akways get blocked so I suggest Lane Boy
I love this song! What style of music? Twenty One Pilots style. lol
I love TOP. My kids say I have the musical taste of a 16yo.
Please do either migraine, jumpsuit, lame boy or heavydirtysoul next. Sorry, I love ‘em too much to pick just one!
The car radio is known as the heart and soul of the car, when he says someone stole his car radio he is referring to someone stealing his heart.
You have a black wedding ring just like Tyler lmao I just thought that was a funny coincidence
LOVE their music but this might top them all. Also try Ride and Heavydirtysoul
U should also check out Holding On To You 💛
I highly recommend every TØP song
7:34 And now he just sits in silence…
I think my guy here is trying to pause in the worst possible places lol 😂
@@sparks5063 I nailed it 🤘🏼😂 My bad lol.
The car is him. you'll get it once you watch more of ToP.
so sad other reaction videos were blocked 🥲
Please do more reactions to 21 pilots
Hey Mr. Smell. I did a couple more and they were blocked by TH-cam. I hope to round back soon. Loving their stuff!!
