Imagine being a young handsome wannabe actor, trying to make your way in Hollywood, and your first and (probably) only gig is walking across the set on cue in a MK&A tape.
I used to work at MOA and like every other week, there's some rando 12 year old doing a show like this, often with 10-20 people awkwardly milling around like "oh is something happening? who is this person who gets to be on a Stage?" There will be signs around the mall saying, "Charlie Davenport was an extra in several episodes of CSI Bismarck, come hear him perform his new and only single, also available free on soundcloud."
I would have no trouble believing those kids were doing some kind of concert that the Olsens could take over. Like, sure. Why not. Everyone else has.

I watched Mall Party like a zillion times at day care. I thought the whole "lets get on a plane to go shopping" deal was just a bit outrageous even at the age of 6. Great video!

I hope you one day review New York Minute. That was the last "blockbuster" they made together before they retired from acting. It's an amazingly hilarious bad movie. 😂

When I’m down (and when I’m not) I rewatch some of your classics (and Phelan’s, too) to cheer me up. “Assley” had me laughing like a madman and replaying it over and over. It’s probably the first real laugh I’ve had in a long time. Your cynicism and sarcasm ironically brings joy to the world.

Their mom was the executive producer on everything the twins were in, besides Full House, so this is all her fault. Elizabeth is the only one who stayed in acting because she wasn't subjected to this exploitation and depressing treatment. These videos are probably just depressing to her if she's had to see them or even watched them be filmed.

I can't put my finger on it; but i get the feeling Phelous didn't like these movies at all.
Guess it's his way of paying back allison for her sitting through his resident evil playthroughs.
Between these and the Land Before Time sequels, the '90s had some really shitty video babysitters.
they always insisted on making those girls sing and it just was not happening. they really thought they were gunna spin some kind of tween idol singing franchise out of this and just listening to these songs is challenging.
It was all from their mom too. She was the executive producer on everything they were in, besides Full House, and it's why these movies feel like home videos with some production values. They are basically home movies sold for profit. And once the girls were old enough they finally got out of acting altogether and went into fashion, they're very successful too. I understand that making some money is important, but these movies are just depressing and uncomfortable. It's clear why Elizabeth Olsen is the only one with an acting career anymore cause she wasn't exploited like this.

I’m a huge Phelous fan and never would want to see him upset…..under normal circumstances, but watching how miserable he feels during the Olson Twins videos just makes me practically giggle
I've watched this review a few times and always crack up whenever Phelan says "two stupid twelve year old boys."

I had one and as a young girl I loved it but the cord did get tangled all the time.
They did used to have parrots at the Rainforest Cafe, they stopped using them because of animal cruelty allegations.
I read this as “animal cruelty alligators” and it almost made more sense

Top-Gun universe I guess? I the film they basically started WW3 by shoot down Soviet Union's fighter, but it looks like everything is fine in the squeal trailer. With same logic, I believe US will be still fine after they shoot down Chinese satellite without knowing its civilian or military one.

Opening credits from the Actual Mary-Kate and Ashley cartoon called Mary-Kate and Ashley In Action! and apparently this is a "autobiographical cartoon" which somehow always has a red carpet premiere for each episode:
A live action Mary-Kate and Ashley is asked about their latest mission from E! Entertainment Television's "Expositional Reporter". We then see the "Opening Credits" of the cartoon which shows the following things to be true:
They're airplane pilots. Their dog is around them when they fly the plane.
They then skydive (with their dog, who has his own chute) into a moving motorboat.
They chase a "Carmen Sandiego" type villain who just stole a painting.
They do this while hanging from ladders that's attached to a flying helicopter.
They grab the villain, while they're still hanging from the ladder, and throw her into a waiting paddy wagon.
The villain does not get injured at all as this happens.
They're *_EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!_* snowboard riding bomb defusers.
In other words:
They're Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
They're spies.

I remember the Mall Party episode being my favorite one as a kid because I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis and had actually been to most of the places it was filmed. It's weird to see it as an adult though. It brings back memories, but it's not because the show was good.
Lupa and Phelous for movies are totally like Pushing Up Roses and LGR for games.
Except much more consistently funny, IMO.

It still baffles me WHY they made so many movies of these two kids. Just... WHO watched these? Apart from bored grandmas who missed their grandkids during summer? Seriously, I failed to see their appeal even as a kid.
I just assume a lot of these tapes were bought for girls as gifts from relatives who didn't want to think too hard for gift ideas. when you're a kid pre-internet being big, you kinda take what you can get sometimes
I was super into them as a kid (though I didn't own any of the tapes, just rented them from Blockbuster as often as I could find them) and I'm not sure I could tell you. They just seemed cool, I guess? There was so much media surrounding them that I think most younger kids assumed we were supposed to look up to them.

Though I admit I mostly just read the books based off of the Olsen twins mystery series and other books based on TV shows too.

My God, I remember my sisters used to watch the Mall Party video ALL THE TIME! And the Sleepover Party video. The songs make any of the shit in those Diet Disney movies sound like actual Disney movie songs.
actually the Rainforest Cafe's did used to have birds in them. they used to do shows talking about the birds and having them do things like talking and opening nuts weird things like that. I've actually got pictures of my kids with them and my youngest is 16 so at least sixteen years ago they had the birds. I believe that they stopped carrying because a combination of three things, they had some workman's comp cases of the birds biting the handlers (a macaw can easily bite off a finger), at least one case of a guest getting bitten and the cost and expense of caring for the birds that would get sick in this kind of environment ( people want to see pretty birds and a stressed macaw will pull out its feathers). they would have the birds out on show during the evenings on weekdays and they would do like multiple shows on the weekends.

I think having each other's back kept them somewhat stable and sane once they hit the age they were tired of filming. Without each other, who knows how bad things could have been.

It’s day 835 of the 2020 quarantine I just noticed these videos are from 3 years ago and
Man, this is the first time a 'nostalgic' style review has given me real nostalgia. I had buried the memories of watching this stuff as a kid and now they are baaack... I had the little detective books and the singalong video. Which was nothing but songs. Only songs.
Speaking of songs, I lived near the Mall of America for almost 20 years. That area of the country is a frozen wasteland nearly 6 months out of the year. The review shows a snippet of the 'mall invitation' song where a lyric goes 'We're going to a mall where the sun always shines' or something like that and I call B.S. that mall was where we went when there was absolutely nothing else to do because there were 2 feet of snow over everything and the sky was pure gray with cloud cover. I went there for my birthday most years because it's in early December and the Twin Cities area is nigh-uninhabitable by the end of November. Birthday activities included 'try not to slip on the ice and break your tailbone on your way from the parking garage to the mall'
It was really weird to see the MoA again after moving away, too. Even a distorted-VHS-quality 1990s version.

When Phelan jokes about the Instant Party Cord summoning the dark lord so he could immediately make a party, all I could (and still can) picture in my head is Satan's Halloween party from South Park (the episode where the devil is dressed like Britney Spears from the "Baby one more time" video), and those two little twin idiots just dancing around, singing poorly and off-key about how cool it is to party with the Devil in H-E-double hockey sticks and someone would make some kind of limp pun like, "this is a heck of a party", "the host is such a charming/handsome devil" or "it's hot as heck in here", or something even worse (probably)

Man do I want to see you two on RedLetterMedia's Wheel of the Worst or Best of the Worst. And because it's the internet I have to say that it's not any criticism, but because both groups are willing to watch awful videos, rate them, and knock the video cassettes down in disgust :) Plus, as far as I know, you live close to each other (relatively speaking) and I think much hilarity would be provided to me. This is totally not a selfish wish on my part.
The destroyer that they have in the background, and get the hats for, is the USS John S. McCain, DDG-56. On August 21st, 2017, the McCain collided with a Liberian tanker near Singapore, resulting in the deaths of ten of the McCain's sailors.
