- Worked for DoorDash for months to raise funds to purchase all new ultralight gear. To get a pack load under 10 pounds to take on a 5-day trip on the Centennial Trail in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Not only to just have a light load on my back. But to have gear in the pack. That could handle different situations and also adverse conditions. That would make me comfortable no matter what. Watch me test this gear in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Will it thrive or survive?

Nice video. Glad your setup worked out. I dig the hoodie. I've been enjoying my fastpacking setup lately. It feels great to go lighter. Don't need to eat as much and have a lot less fatigue on climbs.

Beautiful scenery! Looked like a fun first couple days. As I get older, a lighter pack sure feels a lot better especially if I’m going farther on the mileage. I’m surprised about your platypus. I e been using them for the past couple years and they work great.
I am so disappointed in that water filter. I will never switch from the Sawyer Squeeze. Never has let me down. I can never trust Platypus again. Clean water is a must. I am heading back in the fall to finish it if you are interested. Four days. 16 miles a day.

I think the Platy Quickdraw needs to be pre-soaked. It has had problems, however, and they will replace it if needed.. Still, when you get it working, it is superb. Glad to see you try UL. Good that you didnmess around with hypothermia. Overall nice trip.
The end that attaches to the bottle. Is solid with glue. I even took a knife to brake through the end. I would have to use a drill to get through. I will stick will the tried and true Sawyer. That is why they distribute them around the world. For people to filter their water. It was my fault for not testing it. Thank you Underdgk9 for watching. I really appreciate it.

Years ago I had a Platypus bladder fail on me on a hike in extreme heat. Never trusted the company again, luckily there are other companies that make quality gear.

My husband & I took a 3 week trip in SD back in 2013 & enjoyed several days in Custer St Park.
I don’t think I’d have enjoyed a winter trip but we went in late July/early Aug
After miles of listening to those Prairie Dogs. Those Guinea Fowl will sound like a Nightingale!

When I saw the headline, I thought for sure you’d be bringing your Quilted Chameleon given the idea that it’s the lightest hammock system one can get right now when combining the integrated quilt with an ultralight top quilt. Is there a reason you didn’t bring it for this trip? Will you be doing a review video for it? Thank you!
The Quilted Chameleon ( which is a full length. 30 degree ). weighed 38 ounces. The hammock that I used. Dream Hammock Darien. And the Hammock Gear Phoenix ( which is 3/4 length. 40 degree ). Both together weighed 22 ounces - 623 grams. With my hammock Gear Hex Tarp ( with cordage and four stakes ) And my Top Quilt ( Hammock Gear Burrow UL ). Had a combine weight of 43 ounces - 1219 grams. That is ultra light. Don't get me wrong. But the Quilted Chameleon. Is a great light weight hammock. No adjusting the under quilt. Which I had to do each time I got in and out of the 3/4 length. Thank you Ctdefender110ct5 for watching. I really appreciate it.

That Rain Jacket was awesome. It is the Zpacks Vertice. Only 5 ounce and keep me nice and dry. Plus it has pit zips to keep me from over heating. A little spendy. But worth it for me. Thank you Khalid for watching. Much appreciated.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Thanks for your reply. The website highlights all the features but not the materials it is made of, or the type of waterproof membrane it uses. Very unusual for a technical piece, but hey, if it works, it works. Made in the USA is a big plus too.
Do you have a problem with Rain gear losing the waterproof function? Night Hawk In Light (all mashed into one word) channel released a how to video 3 weeks ago about waterproofing that might be helpful.
A Rain jacket that is taped well. It will last a long time. I have a jacket that is over 10 years old. I use it a lot through out the year. And it never leaked. But it is wise to spray DWR on every couple of years. So the water will bead up and roll off. Thank you Remyllebeau for watching. I always appreciate it.
Question, you said you needed to adjust the UQ. If one side of the hammock is sewn how do you adjust the quilt?
Great Question. I will grab the hammock fabric against the under quilt and move the under quilt. Ounce the shock cord is over my feet. And with the 3/4 length adjusted on its own shock cord suspension to fit my hammock. Then I never have to worry about the foot end. That end almost always stay in place. I just have to only adjust it over my shoulder.

Pardon my questions, I have no experience with multi-day hiking only single day trips.
The pace at which you guys advance is rather quick. So if you walk, let's say, 10 miles (= 16 km) that seems like it's doable in 3 to 4 hours. What do you do the rest of the day?
Could you double that daily hiking distance and sustain it for a week?
Great question! Distance is always determined by the time of year. For an example. It you are trekking through deep snow. A few miles or km. Is a long distance. Heat could also demine it. And also. How far is the person who is with you is capable of doing. when it comes to distance. Plus how much light you have in the day. In June. It gets light a 4:30 am and doesn't get dark till 10:00 pm. A lot of time to move. In December. It doesn't get light till &:30 am and gets dark at 4:30. Not much light to move. And a big one is pack weight. If I where do a solo with an ultralight pack. On that trip. I would of done 16 to 20 miles ( 25 to 32 km ). There maybe other variables. I hope this helps when it comes to planning a trip. Thank you TheNighthawk for watching. Much appreciated!
