- LaClassica wears Paolo Savoldelli and Massimo Boglia for their reconnaissance bike on great climbs!
The Stelvio Pass has an altitude 2758 m above sea level and colleague - only during the summer season - Lombardy, Switzerland and South Tyrol, through the carriage road highest in Europe.
The road to the Stelvio Pass is surrounded by a natural park, in an area steeped in history.
The story of the First World War, with the trenches and the many military remains, witnessing a period of hard and sad story and - secondly - the bicycle, with the epic deeds during the stages of the Giro d'Italia.
With the racing bike, the alternatives to reach the step are three: the South Tyrolean side, departing from Prad, the Lombardy side, starting from Bormio or from the Swiss side, departing from Santa Maria (Val Monastery) addressing the Umbrail Pass.
The climb from the Lombardy side part starts from Bormio (1,225 m) and is 21 km long.
The slope of the climb starts immediately with demanding stretches where you can catch your breath. After about 8 km you will find a number of small galleries - always well-lit even during the day - and to follow this part with hard slopes (up to 14%). It get to the central part of the climb to the Stelvio pass, where a series of hairpin bends you gain altitude quickly.
After 15 km there is a stretch of about a kilometer, with moderate slope, from which we begin to glimpse the top of the climb. The last 4 km are the toughest and challenging, with slopes over 8%.
The average gradient of the slope is 7.3%, and a maximum of 14% (between km 10 and km 11), for a total height difference of over 1500 m.
