The songs she wrote as a 15 year old make me wonder what exactly it is that's keeping me from even attempting to do something as great at my age of 15. She should be an icon to teenagers! :) So here I go, ready to try to do something great and kind. :)
Oh, I have been wondering where I have been pondering Where I've been lately is no concern of yours Who's been touching my skin Who have I been letting Shy and tired-eyed am I today Umm I'm wounded by dust All I have been wondering where I have been pondering Where I've been lately is no concern of yours Who's been touching my skin Who have I been letting Shy and tired-eyed am I today Ooh, ooh, ooh Sometimes I sit, sometimes I stare Sometimes they look and sometimes I don't care Rarely I weep, sometimes I must I'm wounded by dust When the bell toll, when the bell gon' chime You better call for your woman up high And when the bell tolls for your last day You'll be getting down on your knees to pray I'm a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day I'm not a woman that is going to place claim, but you said that it was coming on judgement day Now Sophia I'm wounded by dust When the bell toll, when the bell gon' chime You better call for your woman up high And when the bell tolls for your last day You'll be getting down on your knees to pray I'm a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day I'm not a woman that is going to place claim, but you said that it was coming on judgement day Now Sophia (Sophia) I'm wounded by dust Now Sophia
She makes me proud to have the name Laura. Her lyrics have brought me through a lot of difficult situations. I love you Laura, don't ever stop writing.
Her voice at the beginning of this tune sounds different!!!!!!!!!!. I cant describe it but it then goes back to her! absolutely loverly `performance Laura!
Blinded by the Light. I opened my Eyes for the first time and saw a Powder Blue Carnation with Bright Red Ladybirds surrounding it as if to say aren't I Beautiful just being in this World for you What is the use of more than something incredible to look at and admire for the simple fact of existence it's self to wander all through your life so true The passage of time takes us to places we only ever dreamed of and within the journey is a secret of life's passion showing us diversity in everything we see or do A chance to change our narrow minds into a clear vision of which there is no obstruction to truly feel the Earth beating it's heart inside pursuing the Colour of what Hue.
Bjork is an incredibly influential, innovative and provocative pop artist of the late 20th century who is still as bloody flawless today. Someone clearly needs a crash course in what constitutes good music.
Couldn't love this more, if the rest of the album show's this I will be very happy. each album seems to be really different and this seems to be a slightly more mature sound. The joni mitchell ref is spot on!!
i went into HMV and there was a slot for this album and i was shocked and so excited and had a look and then i found out hidden by other CDs it said - coming this september. ARGH
@mdsq36 It will be Sophie Milner (check out her website!) , she does the cover art for Mumford and Sons too. She just graduated from Edinburgh College of Art this year, I went to see her degree show!
@tom9987 Wasn't the Alas I Cannot Swim artwork done by the company Mockett and Moquette? In the album notes it says the woodcuts are by them. They might be taken from Laura's designs I suppose...?
I'm 14 and I like Laura Marling too, but you can't deny the fact that most of the people at your school would rather listen to Drake or Rihanna or One Direction... Unless if you're like in the coolest school ever and if so then props to the principal.
@jobiwonkinosi @tom9987 I stand corrected :) I knew Alas for sure...I thought she had illustrated the CD sleeves for I Speak as well. The box set I bought said the postcards were drawn by her so I thought the rest of the album would've been too!
@HeatherHORRORz I agree. She does seem kind of caught up in herself. She's not self-centered, but she's kind of in her own little world. I wish she would pay more attention to her fans. It would a give her a spark that I would love to see more of.
@samisorad @mdsq36 I'm pretty sure she didn't do the artwork for Alas I cannot Swim and I Speak Because I Can. the art work for this new album is by someone or a company called Shynola.
at about 2:15 onwards she sounds like Joni Mitchell in the higher notes... that's an amazing feat! I love Laura, and always will if he she keeps going like this!
I have a really weird theory about this song being both lyrically and musically indicative about getting over a relationship with Marcus Mumford. "I'm a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day."
Guys and girls, maybe it's not working in your country but you can watch a good concert live ( Laura Marling is playing in one hour) on the Internet, write on Google " festival les inrocks direct"
@wilfbiffherb the first what, 5 notes have a similar tone because they are in the same key. The melody is completely different, as is the tone of the entire song. They really aren't similar at all.
I always wanted a song about my first name (but it's never gonna happen because it's a really uncommon one haha) but my given name is Sophia and as I love Laura this is even better!
The songs she wrote as a 15 year old make me wonder what exactly it is that's keeping me from even attempting to do something as great at my age of 15. She should be an icon to teenagers! :) So here I go, ready to try to do something great and kind. :)
oh no preassure - at the end of the day - those who can do this -are chosen. If not - the beauty wouldnt matter x
I hope you're doing great at 27!
still one of the best songs of my life. from South Korea. love you
Her songs always seem to come into my life at the right moment. 'I am wounded by dust' is very much how I have been feeling this past week.
Laura is a lyrical genius, amazing arrangement. I'm so stoked for the new album, this is teasing me!
She goes more places in this one track than most performers do in their entire musical careers.
This is the talent that is a vocation. She was born with this, like all artists
The lyrics I'm wounded by dust always remind me of Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. Love this song so much!
I've loved Laura Marling and her music for about 3 years now...watching her grow musically is amazing! Another great song! You've blown us away again!
I don't remember how i ended up here but, god, she's amazing.
Magic ! Laura travels in the history of folk music in a stunning way : every stage is a fantastic reinvention.
Can't stop hitting the replay button..thanks for posting!
Sooooooooophhhhhiaaa!
Heard this song a few years back on Mornings Become Eclectic. Still one of my favorites 💓💓💓

Beautiful song with so much going on in it.
I love the building in pace to a racey crecendo.
Look forward to seeing you perform in Winchester this October
Oh, I have been wondering where I have been pondering
Where I've been lately is no concern of yours
Who's been touching my skin
Who have I been letting
Shy and tired-eyed am I today
Umm
I'm wounded by dust
All I have been wondering where I have been pondering
Where I've been lately is no concern of yours
Who's been touching my skin
Who have I been letting
Shy and tired-eyed am I today
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Sometimes I sit, sometimes I stare
Sometimes they look and sometimes I don't care
Rarely I weep, sometimes I must
I'm wounded by dust
When the bell toll, when the bell gon' chime
You better call for your woman up high
And when the bell tolls for your last day
You'll be getting down on your knees to pray
I'm a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day
I'm not a woman that is going to place claim, but you said that it was coming on judgement day
Now Sophia
I'm wounded by dust
When the bell toll, when the bell gon' chime
You better call for your woman up high
And when the bell tolls for your last day
You'll be getting down on your knees to pray
I'm a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day
I'm not a woman that is going to place claim, but you said that it was coming on judgement day
Now Sophia (Sophia)
I'm wounded by dust
Now Sophia
God, I love this song

Blinded by the Light.
I opened my Eyes for the first time and saw a Powder Blue Carnation with Bright Red Ladybirds surrounding it as if to say aren't I Beautiful just being in this World for you
What is the use of more than something incredible to look at and admire for the simple fact of existence it's self to wander all through your life so true
The passage of time takes us to places we only ever dreamed of and within the journey is a secret of life's passion showing us diversity in everything we see or do
A chance to change our narrow minds into a clear vision of which there is no obstruction to truly feel the Earth beating it's heart inside pursuing the Colour of what Hue.
Hearing your name sang in a beautiful voice makes you smile 😅
Bjork is an incredibly influential, innovative and provocative pop artist of the late 20th century who is still as bloody flawless today. Someone clearly needs a crash course in what constitutes good music.

SHE IS AMAZING!
So excited for the new album!
*raises hand awkwardly* I'm a teenager and I like Laura Marling!
Great look into what should be an amazing album /
Because her selling point isn't to give people what they want, but to fulfill her own self as a creative Genius driven.

@SinisterDevilCheese nao THAT'S a hell of a postman!
@samisorad @mdsq36 I'm pretty sure she didn't do the artwork for Alas I cannot Swim and I Speak Because I Can. the art work for this new album is by someone or a company called Shynola.
@Vixen416 i'm in DC, too. two people agree, so it must happen.
My last hour: Must hear it once more. And then once more. And after that I'll hear it once more, and once more, and once more...
@MegustaLabuat wow! if that's true then she has proved herself to be even more talented than i had realized. so wonderful :)

@Vixen416 and if you do,how about a nice live streaming concert on NPR?downloadable would be nice.
I have a really weird theory about this song being both lyrically and musically indicative about getting over a relationship with Marcus Mumford.
"I'm a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day."
True.
i was about to write " what?! how did you get this??love it!"then realized it was from lauramarling...
Guys and girls, maybe it's not working in your country but you can watch a good concert live ( Laura Marling is playing in one hour) on the Internet, write on Google " festival les inrocks direct"
@mdsq36 It could be Laura herself...she did all the artwork for "Alas I Cannot Swim" AND "I Speak Because I Can".
Tickets for the tour just dropped through my letterbox, my postman is now known as Santa Claus.
@wilfbiffherb the first what, 5 notes have a similar tone because they are in the same key. The melody is completely different, as is the tone of the entire song. They really aren't similar at all.
Still strumming heartstrings in 2020
I always wanted a song about my first name (but it's never gonna happen because it's a really uncommon one haha) but my given name is Sophia and as I love Laura this is even better!
