Paul certainly knows what he's doing. As a TV director/producer myself, this is insanely beautifully shot content. It seriously looks like he has an entire film unit of 20 shooting this stuff! It's also really interesting! And he flies airliners too!! Bravo!
Another old writer/producer/director here and I totally agree. I bet most of your subs are unaware of how much work you put in on your videos. And add to that you’re a really great personality. Love your videos.
The Captain you jump-seated with is a true pro. Love when he welcomes you after checking your credential and basically says don’t hesitate to speak up you are now part of the crew. Love it!
Pilot or not, this content is insanely good. The whole production really. I’m starting my training (at 29) next week and this channel has made me realize that yes, commuting is going to suck-but the pros substantially outweigh the cons. Love the channel, love the personal touches. I’ll be there for the next layover. Cheers!
Was wonderful to finally “meet” the family. Was glad to see them enjoying their privileges as a reward for accommodating some of the inconveniences your career can impose on them when you’re not able to make it home sometimes. Videography was beautiful … as always!
It’s really cool seeing how much you all laugh as a family. You’re great with your kids (as is your wife!) and awesome to see you all travelling together. What a lovely family! Take care! ❤
I loved how you kept the video engaging and family focused. As someone considering training to become a pilot I’ve worried about how that would impact my future family. This video showed me that while pilots aren’t always at home, they have great opportunities to spend quality time with their family all over the world! Thank you for being real in this video. Too many TH-camrs create videos of their perfect lives and cut out the kinds of things that you included like flights not going according to plan, camera awkwardness (with your wife in the bloopers lol), etc. I liked and subscribed and can’t wait for more videos like this one!
First of all, I stumbled across your channel and have been loving it. Secondly, you have an absolute beautiful family and you are teaching them patients when travel. I think that's most critical when you decide to travel around the world is be in the moment, and enjoy the journey. I lived in Atlanta for 35 years and traveled all that time. I'm a million miler on Delta but recently downsized and moved to Greenville GSP. Most of my flights are now GSP to ATL to my final destination. Thank you for making the world smaller and taking me along with you! Travel safe.
Commenting first for the algorithm so you can grow your channel, but also to compliment your deferring to your wife and daughter so they could sit together in first class, great job dad!
As someone who has a fear of flying, watching your channel and getting to know you as a pilot behind the scenes has been so beneficial to getting past it. Always look forward to seeing your newest videos!
This was such a beautiful and visually rich video- love your style of quality over quantity, not putting out subpar videos in the name of sticking to a weekly upload! Can't wait for the next one! And by the way you have a beautiful family as well!!
Your video is why I started to work for an airline as my “retirement” job after 28+ years working for the local government. Almost two years an averaging a trip a month getting ready to head to England and Scotland in a week or so. I agree that non reving generally leads to flying an “odd” schedule I look at it from the standpoint that the object is to get on the plane and then be sat as comfortable as possible
Your videos and calm demeanour helps me to fight the fear of flying! Every time I need to fly somewhere, I watch your videos and I get back to the state of calmness!
Great video ... very interesting, informative and well-paced ... I was "into it" the whole time. I think your kids won the "Parents Lottery" too. What a great way to grow up -- seeing the world. 🙂
Man you give so much inspiration to many young and even older generations who have always wanted to achieve getting their pilots license or wanting to fly. You give such a better perspective on flying.
Love the videos, and love your family. My brother in law is a training captain for the Dreamliner at British Airways. So I’ve had some amazing trips with him. Mostly manage to get first class on the outbound and after 3 days of layover with the crew, we know them so well, we let them sit down in first class and serve them, provided its empty of paying passengers. Other benefits we get are airline floors in hotels with dedicated checkin and concierge as well as crew transfers to and from the airport. I’m waiting to get to fly the SIM some time. We also get upgraded frequently when we fly BA.
I recently started my journey to the Flight deck through Deltas Company Pilot propel program. I found your channel and seeing how you commute to a different station for work and how you broke it down cost wise makes me even more excited and motivated to reach the flight deck. Keep up the good content!

What a super video... you put so much into these! Its honestly fascinating, keep them coming! I passed the Aer Lingus entrance test but didn't go further in 1998, now at 51 a bit late to change career but love watching these.
One of my favorite channels on You Tube! I am a private pilot, but I definitely appreciate the airliner insight and you have a lovely family. And, your videos are always so well done.
I was a pilot for 36 years between the Air Force and United and a few other companies. Your content is really great, especially your system explanations. I thought I'd seen it all, you gave me some great ideas. Thanks
Hi Paul, yesterday I was watching a few videos with information about traveling and your video came up. I will travel with my husband and daughter to Calgary to visit my son and his family for a week. I'm glad to find your videos. You have a wonderful family. I'm glad you can travel with them too. I learn a few things from your videos. Thank you. And thank you for your service. Keep doing a good job. God bless you!
Paul, thanks again for the excellent video that showcases some of the more unseen aspects, benefits and angsts of non-rev travel with family. I’ve learned more from you and your vlogs than any other source on the internet. As always, spectacular editing and visual story telling.
Im Portuguese now living in California. Love your videos. It’s nice to see how well you speak of Portugal! Please keep your amazing content coming. Funny I was actually in Portugal at the same time and flew United back LIS-EWR. Hopefully will cross paths with you one day!
Beautiful Family. Great video of Portugal. Cousin worked for TWA, now American and she has 30+ years service. Husband occasionally joins her during her traveling.
Just found your channel in the last couple of days. I am a corporate driver that fly's primarily domestic. Have lots of friends at the airlines, but love your layover persective. And it's good for people to see that sometimes being a pilot is not always so glamorous. Gonna check out atlas obscura!!!! Thanks, Sean
I just found you tonight while recovering from a killer hangover. It was my 59th birthday. To much champagne. I absolutely think you are brilliant! I am doing a binge. Makes my night much more enjoyable!
My wife and I love this channel. Can confirm there is no better feeling when you have been cleared on a pretty tight flight(my wife has the travel benefits). So far we have never been stuck anywhere but we have had to change cities before to get back home. IIRC UK just raised the fees again.
I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. What a lovely thing to do with your family. I also used to work for United Airlines as a customer service agent so I understand how stressful non rev can be. Glad you guys got home! :)
@@mylayoverlife Hilarious. Yeah when I was flying non rev, they would always put me in first class and then when it got busier and no room, I sat in coach and was like what is this. lol! #bougie. :)
Earlier this year I flew into CDMX from IAH with United and with my Bernese Mountain Service Dog. Immigration was backed up and I missed my connecting flight by 5 minutes. Me and my SD needed fresh air so went outside and plopped down. The gate agent from United walked by us. He had answered a question for me when we got off our flight. When he noticed us he stopped and asked me what happened. He knew I had a connecting flight. I explained the situation. He said come with me. He got us a room at the Camino Real and gave me meal vouchers. He was soooo nice to do this. I fly ALOT with my SD and had never been treated so well. We love United Airlines
Just started watching your channel last week. I just want to say that yours is the first to actually make me question my career choice of going into financial services instead of aviation. Thank you for sharing. 😊
I love the way you show everyone how much fun is to travel non rev. I was commuting for 15 years “stby” from Dubai. NOT FUN but I managed to keep my family together. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 love your videos.
Watching the interaction with you and your kids, your daughter having your eyes and you granting her wish to be in First class, your like the perfect family man with the perfect life. Whether you agree or not.... it just seems idealic how fortunate your family are and all the benefits your sacrifice afford them.
i just enrolled and started training at flying school here in sydney Australia im 25 and i always wondered what the lifestyle was like as an international pilot and im so looking forward to it after watching your videos !
Hi from Alberta, Canada. There are many parts of the channel I really appreciate. Being a private pilot myself makes the aviation part a given. But your sense of humor is great makes me laugh, great stress reliver thanks. Being stationed out of Newark I bet you've seen your share of physical improvements to it over the years.
Ah the delights of staff standby. My dad worked for BA at EDI, ground staff. I was lucky enough to be able to fly to Australia at the age of 10. All 4 of us ended up in different seats on a 747 so people were asked to swap so my brother and I could sit with 1 parent. It could certainly be a hassle over the years, dressing smartly and hanging around LHR after a shuttle from EDI and running for the flight at the last minute. Worth it for the travel opportunities though, at little cost.
The effort put into these videos is astounding! Considering your busy schedule its so extremely impressive. Thanks for giving me such inspiration, as well as making me so ready to take my first flight lesson! I think being a pilot would be so freaking cool!
Been a Non-Rev my entire life. Mom was a Gate Agent and is now retired. I remember sitting in airports for hours trying to get home, changing what city we went through, all based on open seats, over solds, other NonRevs, NonRevs tiered status vs active vs non vs buddy passes... We always took the very first flight out, 6am'ish, so you know how many HK's or holdovers that are going to take your seats. The best part of NonRev is that you get upgraded for free whenever its open. I've flown 1st class so may times for no reason, just becuase of being a NonRev. My other favorite thing about NonRev, is that you are the very last person(s) to board. Takes the anxiety of a slow TSA way down.
The jump seat. What a great way to circumvent full flights. I fully believe in staff perks and like this your chances of getting home really increases! Rightly so!
I remember flying non rev(stand-by) back in the day, and I remember having to deal with some of the stress of getting on a flight, getting bumped, or in between. Only got bumped a couple of times, and it was a lot easier back in those days where today every flight seems jam packed.
Welcome back, missed seeing your videos. Your kids are adorable. After watching you I've told one of my teens he just turned 16, that he should become a pilot. I think he would be good at it. First thing he said, don't you have to talk. Lol he is shy ,I said yes you talk briefly you can do it. I haven't flown in 25 years until this year and I've taken 3 trips. I enjoy your videos.
Pilots come in all different personalities. Just because he’s shy doesn’t mean he won’t be a good pilot. I bet he pays attention pretty well. It’s the best job in the world. He should go for it.
@@mylayoverlife I agree, it was just funny to me all he was worried about was talking to the people on the flights over the intercom. Not the 5 years of training. Lol

European A320 check airman here - I love that one of the first things the 737 skipper said to you (once the cert checks were out of the way) was 'speak up'. Class.
Awesome trip report! I love that mix of travel tips and insights into your daily life. Ages ago, before 9/11, I had the most amazing and exciting flight of my life when I got invited to sit on a jumpseat in the cockpit as the airline had assigned my seat in the back also to another person on a fully booked short-haul flight for my weekend commute back home to Berlin from Frankfurt. So if I'll ever have to choose between flying first class suite or jumpseat, it will always be the latter. Yes, not really comfortable, but for someone not used to sit in the cockpit, you won't really notice that. But, for obvious reasons, those days probably won't come back.
Awesome job. I really love your videos. Aside from the beautiful footage and excellent editing job, I appreciate the genuine presentation of the pilot’s lifestyle with all the good and the bad. The choice to show those candid moments where things aren’t going so well alongside the beautiful travels that could easily become social media vanity type of content makes your videos worth watching.
I am so proud of your kids! If I was the age of your daughter. And had to sit in a seat by myself. I would have a temper tantrum. She seemed fully up to it. Really well behaved kids!
Wow! One of ur best videos sir! What a beautiful family u have. I can imagine how hard it must be every time u have to leave them.😢 if u ever leave flying u have always got a great job making videos! A+++👍
Your videos are beyond entertaining to watch. Thank you!! I just recently started pursuing my private license because of your inspiration! Maybe one day if I decide to go back to work for somebody hopefully it will be as a pilot.
Love your stuff man!! As a fairly young lad, I often think about venturing into the world of flying for a living. Your content really helps and informs me of what that could potentially be like! (Your lifestyle and attitude toward even the worst parts of being a pilot throw many spanners in the works for me haha!)
I could never rely on standby travel. It would drive me nuts... the waiting, no available seats, the stress of it. It's fun watching you and your family though 😉
I found your channel earlier today and I was amazed. It has great content and the layover travel destinations are great and informative. I look for travel videos that are down to earth, informative and fun!
As an airline employee I can attest to the adrenaline rush that comes with flying standby/nonrevving. Not for the faint at heart. Before this job I would plan out every trip in advance, always have my fights organized, now I've learned to fly by the seat of my pants and hope to get on. It's all good! Glad I found your channel, love this video!
Not sure why your videos were recommended to me today but you gained a subscriber! Also from MN and just starting to get into more air travel at 40 years old. Work with a couple of people in LE that have part time jobs at MSP International for the travel benefits!
Just got back from using my jumpseat privileges to take a trip up to Fairbanks to visit a friend. Having the ability to do that, in addition to its usual role for me as a means to get home, is probably one of the greatest benefits to being a pilot
Let your son know that we think the videos ARE awesome and we were glad you took us along for the trip. Lovely family and as always, your calm demeanor and explanations make your videos that much more likeable.

Omg ….. Your daughter is the image of you! Your family is so amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this video! Now I wanna visit Portugal.❤
This is quickly becoming my favorite channel
I’m glad I found your channel. Awesome content and I love the blooper reels at the end. Nice work! Oh, I’m from Minnesota too
I am so proud of your kids! If I was the age of your daughter. And had to sit in a seat by myself. I would have a temper tantrum. She seemed fully up to it. Really well behaved kids!
Thank you giving us a small glimpse of your wonderful family !
Awesome video! Brings back memories of my Portugal trip this past summer.
yea man as a non piloot normie i am loving this content. keep it up man I see your channel getting huge.
Thanks so much.
I’m glad to see you gave first class of the ladies. Very classy. Good man
This is so awesome to see you with you family and kids travel as well. You seem like a very cool dad! Thanks for sharing this fun vlog!
Your channel has made me want to become an airline pilot even more
Wow! One of ur best videos sir! What a beautiful family u have. I can imagine how hard it must be every time u have to leave them.😢 if u ever leave flying u have always got a great job making videos! A+++👍
You have a classy channel Paul, I enjoy all your uploads. Keep them coming.
Thank you!
Wonderful videos! My wife and I enjoy watching both the look inside the aviation industry and the destinations. Thank you.
I'm always happy to see you have added a video. This like all your other videos was great!
What a wonderful little PR agent you have in your son! So sweet and cute!!!
I’m loving your channel. It’s a relaxing watch. You have a great nack for presenting - keep making more videos 🎉
Great video! This Portuguese here which has been to MSP thanks you for highlighting my beautiful little country! Come back soon! 🙏❤️🇵🇹❤️
I could never rely on standby travel. It would drive me nuts... the waiting, no available seats, the stress of it. It's fun watching you and your family though 😉
Amazing life , amazing videos Captain. Thanks for sharing 😊
Really liked seeing your trip to Portugal! That ice cream drop was tragic. Dad to the rescue!
My new favorite TH-cam channel! I love it!
The vacation with the Fam looks amazing!
„The nearby Eiffel Tower in Paris“, that really made me laugh! For us people in Europe ( I live in Germany) everything seems far away.
Glad I found your channel, love this video!
or when there is a aircraft change lol
You have a lovely family and it’s cool seeing how pilots are scheduled and the like. Thank you for the behind the scenes tours. 😁
I bet that was beautiful!!
Let your son know that we think the videos ARE awesome and we were glad you took us along for the trip. Lovely family and as always, your calm demeanor and explanations make your videos that much more likeable.
You really love Portugal!! Great videos!! Thanks for sharing!!
Such a great video. Love to see your family. Portugal looks amazing. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Thank you for watching!!
Excellent piece and thanks for taking the time to put this informative clip together. You got me thinking about travel with my family now!
Just discovered your channel. Watching my 3rd video. Fascinating. Well made. Bravo! ✈️👏
Beautiful family! You're an awesome dad!
