He did that a few times during these tournaments. Predicted what the other guy was going to end the sentence with and just mimed it. Pretty solid strategy.
I feel so lucky to be able to be a part of this scene with graffiti and underground hip hop. Most kids grow up playing baseball being good ol boys and just miss out on an awesome part of the world
saw an old interview of brother ali with nardwuar and brother ali talks about how him and sage met for the first time before the battle. sage was asking around about what sizurp is and ali told him how it was cough syrup. i just love how the both of them use that in their battle verses. ali goes “fuck you and the kool aid flavor cherry that your heart pumps” then sage says “slit your wrists and drink the blood as if it was sizurp.” they’re both so goated
I miss those days fo freestyle...i agree alot of the rap battles today are stupid cus all the material used are pre-written. Gotta love the old style backpacker free flow rhymers...
Ali is good, but Sage still had great flow, he's always an excellent freestyler. Sage stayed consistent and one punchline can really turn a battle around, especially if the timing is a minute or less.
Holy shit. At 0:20 Sage Francis mouths "chat room" at the same time Brother Ali said it... Jesus... If I was Brother and I saw that I would have known I was done. They're both amazing though, huge fan of both of them.
Brother Ali explains that he had just told Sage what siizzurp was 2 minutes before the battle, thats why he looks back at the cam after he says it. Look up Brother Ali vs Nardwuar.
Actually, Apathy borrowed the beat from a track of the same name from Pete Rock's first Soul Survivor album. The original track featured Ghostface, Prodigy, and Raekwon
Owtch, the beginning of the freestyle when Ali said "Fuck you and the Kool Aid flavored cherry that your heart pumps" took me aback, it was an unnexpected gaffe.
Yo just checking cause y'all be letting me c ya rap battles from New York not Seattle but I type slow that's why I never made it to anybattle show I know I got it I need a DJ to drop it on and on love.
I swear I've heard these exact same lyrics in some other battle, and I can't remember where. This was only a couple of days ago, and now this is gonna bother the shit out of me. Can anybody help me out?
damn fuckin 10 years later and sage is easitly 2/3 times that size. he's also way short, too. got to see him live and gave him a hug and whatnot. also FUCK why does scribble jam have to be all the fuckin way in ohio. i cant afford a plane or bus ride there..dammit...
What beat are they battling to? Almost positive its the same beat used in 'The Game' by Vinnie Paz and Apathy, but considering this was 11 years ago, I'm assuming the beat could be from an older song?
best part of this video? I mean, aside from the dope battle? Look at 00:40. Sage tries so hard not to start laughing. Wonder if that's the moment he came up with the Michael Jackson line.
I agree with SOAD to an extent, Brother Ali is skilled, and I listen to the Champion EP (Esp. "Sleepwalker") a decent amount, but I wouldn't call him one of the best. I recognize his talent, and he has mad skills off the top, but I wish he would get a bit more experimental on his releases. It seems like he really tries hard to not deviate from his established sound, which I wholeheartedly respect, but it'd be nice to see him be a little less "Safe".
Ali was dead after that “Michael Jackson disease” line. That was the nail in the coffin💀
I give props to every scribble Jam emcee that didn't constantly say "I'm on the mic" before every bar they spit they are rare.
"Won the biggest battle in a metallica shirt before the album dropped.."
Sage, u r a genius.
While wearing a wig 😆
Sage and Ali now look like slightly different shaded characters so you can distinguish the two like in mortal kombat
Wow. These young men Seem talented. They should maybe record an album
R u serious
Please, please, please, let it be serious, I’m so irony poisoned this comment gives me hope for a more earnest world.
See how Sage rushed to shake his hand when he realized Ali was reaching out for daps?
Now that's Hip Hop
loves these guys. big fan of both of em
lol can everyone at Rhymesayer spit off the dome with brilliance?
+lungani zubane yes
Yes
No doubt
I think it's a requirement?
Brother ali was all prepared shit
Love how sage mouthed “chat room” while brother Ali was rhyming.
He did that a few times during these tournaments. Predicted what the other guy was going to end the sentence with and just mimed it. Pretty solid strategy.
sage is wearing a wig here, he takes it off in one of the battles
I feel so lucky to be able to be a part of this scene with graffiti and underground hip hop. Most kids grow up playing baseball being good ol boys and just miss out on an awesome part of the world
Great moment.
saw an old interview of brother ali with nardwuar and brother ali talks about how him and sage met for the first time before the battle. sage was asking around about what sizurp is and ali told him how it was cough syrup. i just love how the both of them use that in their battle verses. ali goes “fuck you and the kool aid flavor cherry that your heart pumps” then sage says “slit your wrists and drink the blood as if it was sizurp.” they’re both so goated
I didn't even know Sage Francis had to defeat Brother Ali to win Scribble. Mind blown.
And now they're twins just with different beards
I miss those days fo freestyle...i agree alot of the rap battles today are stupid cus all the material used are pre-written. Gotta love the old style backpacker free flow rhymers...
i dont know what i love more about these vids. the great battles or Slug just chilling enjoying it all
Ali is good, but Sage still had great flow, he's always an excellent freestyler. Sage stayed consistent and one punchline can really turn a battle around, especially if the timing is a minute or less.
Still 🔥🔥🔥 2 decades later
i love it when Ali nods and is all like "good dis" after Sage's line about the 'michael jackson disease'.
Classic for some of us...wonder how this would have went down twenty-five years later
Sage looks soo much different now o.0
sage got fat my brotha.
@@therealsagefrancis he keeps moving.
plus he has a wig
6years ago :O Time flies when you're on Hip-Hop
14 years ago
16 years
23 years now, and it was 14 years when you said 6, lol. 2000.
...That Hug Tho!
That footprint in your chest line Ali used was nuts.
I like how Ali wanted respect and sage is getting cheered on and Ali flips him off and sage gives him a bear hug lol
Haha!
Ali revealed recently that Sage actually asked him what Sizzurp was backstage before the battle.
Holy shit. At 0:20 Sage Francis mouths "chat room" at the same time Brother Ali said it... Jesus... If I was Brother and I saw that I would have known I was done. They're both amazing though, huge fan of both of them.
+Blackcat5267 its really not hard at all to guess the rhyme. its just obnoxious.
+WLG1 no its dope. shows how predictable the rhymes could be. pure skill
Sage did this to Blueprint multiple times the following year. brutal.
oh man this makes me smile
The Sizzurp line…..that was the kicker. Lol
(If you know, you know.)
Pretty sure this is Xaul Xan not sage.
Jedi... I love both of their music.
best battle destroying rhymes ever heard . . . sage is a bad animal here . . . incredible dissing skillz !!!
You need to watch Eyedea vs Shells.
If this was Aesop he would have came out with some sick things that 1% of the audience understood.
this shits crazy sage hella killed it!
@spcskateboarder5 not sure where it came from but its used in Apathy - The Game ft. Vinnie Paz
@xXDeathGuyXx someone uploaded the full scribble jam 2004, some CRAZY battles, sage freestyles at the end (and eyedeas a judge!)
@nicholasaaevans I think it's KRS ONE - Rising To The Top... Not sure if that's where the beat originally came from, though
sip your blood as if it was slizzurp..
Dope
Brother Ali explains that he had just told Sage what siizzurp was 2 minutes before the battle, thats why he looks back at the cam after he says it. Look up Brother Ali vs Nardwuar.
Jordan Naish haha thats awesome. makes me love this battle even more
Sage is so fucking sick
Probably the best rap battle I've ever seen. Actually, fuck probably. This is the best.
Actually, Apathy borrowed the beat from a track of the same name from Pete Rock's first Soul Survivor album. The original track featured Ghostface, Prodigy, and Raekwon
@joka55bmx those are the best battles
BROTHER ALI!! SAGE!!
@Schlaktad Dude, this was recorded before that song was made. It's Pete Rock and Ghostface - The Game
Owtch, the beginning of the freestyle when Ali said "Fuck you and the Kool Aid flavored cherry that your heart pumps" took me aback, it was an unnexpected gaffe.
I like how in every battle sage uses a diffrent name yet everyone knows hes sage
Thanks for teaching me something cool- where can I see the different names though?
@@baronmind954 he has another scribble jam battle where he battles slug and I believe he goes by the name strange famous
Fkn Doseone making it happen...classic
Sage wins.
Sage is legend
Yo just checking cause y'all be letting me c ya rap battles from New York not Seattle but I type slow that's why I never made it to anybattle show I know I got it I need a DJ to drop it on and on love.
@tobtob180 These two, yes, same if you see slug, blueprint, p.e.a.c.e, adeem and especially eyedea.

Is it me or does brother ali kinda look like Rod Farva in this clip lol
it's a wig no kidding, you can see him take it off in his battle with blueprint
Are these battles off the dome freestyles?
they seemed about tied to me on that. i liked both they're verses!
I swear I've heard these exact same lyrics in some other battle, and I can't remember where. This was only a couple of days ago, and now this is gonna bother the shit out of me. Can anybody help me out?
hahaha the DJ ant takinga hit at 0:22
damn fuckin 10 years later and sage is easitly 2/3 times that size.
he's also way short, too. got to see him live and gave him a hug and whatnot.
also FUCK why does scribble jam have to be all the fuckin way in ohio.
i cant afford a plane or bus ride there..dammit...
before canceling - laughed so hard
Sage is till nice on the mic. Recognize!!
Ali had solid flow and battled well but Sage had more impact and less repetition
Word.
whats the beat??
Anyone know the beat?
Pete Rock - The Game
pronedaddy Thanks mate.
ali always comes with real shit, i would seriously be afraid to battle him
it's Pete Rock - The Game (Instrumental)
@skateandcreate1234 mr dibbs. co creator of scribble jam.
pete rock "the game"
lol look at brother ali flick his ass off at the end...
What!! Is that DJ Ant!!
What beat are they battling to? Almost positive its the same beat used in 'The Game' by Vinnie Paz and Apathy, but considering this was 11 years ago, I'm assuming the beat could be from an older song?
0:58
I hear "You's a black batman, black man with the Michael Jackson disease!"
That can't be right, can it?
It was "fat black man with Michael Jackson disease"
you're a fat batman, a black man with the michael jackson disease"
No, he said “you go flat back man, black man...”
@lilmale yeah
Why do all Rhymesayers stand with their hands crossed lmao (R.I.P Eyedea)
9ofOne RIP.
@GrippinLipps backpackers slap rappers backwards
forreal, alis first round was nuts!!!
best part of this video? I mean, aside from the dope battle? Look at 00:40. Sage tries so hard not to start laughing. Wonder if that's the moment he came up with the Michael Jackson line.
@smells4like2skunk0 yeah we all seen it, it was clear as day and literally unmissable
SO WHO WON
Sage. he was crowned the champ that year.
SAGE WON BY FAR
It's tha game by pete rock, raekwon, prodigy, and ghostface.
BEAT = The Game - Pete Rock, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Prodigy
Hah ali flipped sage off at the end
For not giving him daps
I think we are watching the same battle and I'll have to give it to Ali on this clip.
wow sage francis looks different
@paydn202
no vote ups ahhahaha
CANT BELIVE SAGE LOOKED LIKE THAT
Ali never really caught on. He was too insecure and serious like Apathy. God, what a dull segment of hip hop population.
Sage lookinh like aseop rock
@smells4like2skunk0 I think he pointed to himself
@skateandcreate1234 haha foreal!
sage francis for the win haha

@MrNapt you could have just said "i dont know anything about freestyle rap"
I've heard it... idk what song though, fuck it's bothering me now lol
He said he looked like a blackman with the michael jackson disease lol
