Good job in fixing the mower deck, I got here as I'm researching the Miller 211 trying to decide if I want it or the 215 for a portable unit. Don't take this as criticism, the biggest reason your final welds weren't smooth as you want them is you were mostly drag welding and that puts too much wire into the joint and you were a little far away from the joint which you did mention so good job on knowing that. MIG you want to push, Flux core you drag ( wire pointed towards previous weld) just remember the phrase drag for slag, just like a stick welder. Second thing on the slight vertical weld where the puddle was running down on you. You were doing good stopping before the puddle ran away on you, Practice doing that but don't hold the trigger so long, as soon as that puddle builds up to the height you want let go of the trigger, try not to move, wait a second for the puddle to solidify and repeat. If you've ever heard the phrase stacking dimes that's what you're doing, burn pause burn pause repeat till your done. Looks like if you would practice that a little you'd have no concerns with you're welds apperance. Heck what you did on that deck looks better than allot of stuff I've seen in certain stores.

Thanks Sam. That is really good info! I will give it a shot next time I break out the welder. I was never a fan of multi-process....anythings....including welders. That said, I have never used one and it seems to me that people like just fine! If I didn't already have my TIG, I would have considered a multi process more I guess. Thanks and good luck with whatever you get!

    Why cut out the metal?
Just grind all paint off & fit it back in place & weld it in place.done!

Your not pretty welding is 1000% better than my good welding.

You are definitely not a welder.
