Local housing allowance does not cover all of market rent. A room in a shared house in my local area ranges from 400.00 to 600.00 a month. The local housing allowance is 338.00 a month. If the rent is higher then the LHA rate then the tenant has to pay the rest out of their universal credit standard allowance. Single and over 25 is currently 368.00 for the standard allowance. So this puts pressure on household budgets and actually keeps the unemployed in poverty. I work myself full time but certainly for the unemployed the government not increasing housing costs each year and freezing it has caused a lot of people a lot of problems.

Everyone earning over £250,000 should be paying 65% tax. Make tax on dividends higher. Then lower VAT to 15%.. rejoin the customs union and come back to me in 5 years, we’ll review. It’ll definitely be better to what we’ve had these last 14 years.
Also if you slash benefits, all the people that are made homeless from doing this.. the councils will have to pay private landlords (as there isn’t enough houses) to house them..
Lowering VAT tends to benefit the rich. Making the tax system simpler would help stop avoidance, while not illegal, can be easy if you can afford a good accountant. Joining the CU and SM will set us back as we will then have to cancel all trade deals and mean we have to pay billions back into the EU.
Yeah. But by taxing the rich more on their income, you’d recoup that surely, and you could sell it to them as a benefit to them as well. And lowering VAT would help the poorest and restart the economy, I remember Gordon Brown did it. And could we not rejoin the customs union but stay out of the European Union, like Norway or Turkey? Or do you think the EU wouldn’t allow it now, to set an example.
@Odd_pictures How would VAT help the poorest? Yes you could rejoin the CU and SM but we would have to leave our other trade deals and we would have to pay into the EU because when you are in the CU/SM you pay the EU the tariffs you collect from outside the EU, we always had to. Raising tax doesn't help, especially by so much. People will just use scheme's to avoid it. The best way I think is to simplify the system, encourage people to pay that way.
@@jpw6893 I just presumed if things were 5% cheaper, it’s the poorest that spend all their money rather than keep it, and the vast majority of people would have more money, you’d have more money circulating. I understand you’d have to renege on our current trade deals by joining the CU, but surely it’s for the greater good. And couldn’t something be put in like the triple lock in pensions, so people’s taxes have to be paid at the highest rate across the board, dividends, wages etc. I’m genuinely interested in this stuff and wanting to learn..
I'm all for slashing benefits. Well certainly slashing some benefits anyway. 10 minutes in, a pensioner thinks we should slash benefits... whilst complaining that he doesn't get a benefit because he's too rich. Like it or not, the state pension is a benefit. I don't wish to deny any pensioner the state pension.
Slasing benefits would make the mental health situation even worse in this country and then you would end up increasing pressure and costs on other government departments and services that would dwarf what you expected to save anyway. It's a false economy as poverty is very, very expensive.

Benefits include pensions which would soon be part of the cuts, would pensioners accept that ?
People pay tax for fifty years for their pension....millions on benefits never pay in...they are bloodsuckers.
I can't believe nobody asked the doddery old sods on the phone..
So we should increase politicians wages but yet we should cut benefits and get the disabled working - what planet us this woman from ? She should be a politician herself as she certainly thinks like one .
@@paulnicolas172 Yea.. Definitely.. Vote Conservative/reform ltd, if you want someone who would be in an asylum 100 years ago forced to work in the care home, you have to sell your house to be in.
I don't mean to sound rude to people with mental issues but that's what they're offering because it's not the physically disabled they're trying to force into it.
@@alfsmith4936you’ll be one one day!!
So much money is spent because of NHS waiting lists, in housing subsidy, tsx credits. Its all connected. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Why not stop loopholes for tax avoidance, get the money back from covid fraud get money back from failed track and trace, pay a decent living wage so people don’t have to claim income support, maybe have a universal basic income which guarantees a decent living
Perhaps making billionare and companies pay the proper tax and closing loopholes may be more helpful, than punishing the already ill and poor for the government's mistakes.
*censorship* I can't see any of my comments here.
Who wants to take bets on the fact that the first caller is using “lazy” and “tracksuits” as a dog whistle. Where is the push back from the host?
Make work worth doing instead of paying so much for people to stay at home Cut all benefits
YEP!!!
Yeah slash the benefits just to make sure the lower end of the society stay down there, it's not like it's hard enough already let's make sure they get even less instead of cutting the expenses of some of these politicians
I m studying physcology and this lin character shows psychopathic tendencies, bless her .
What is it about ignoring the pound sign? It’s the in thing on menus, as if by ignoring it, makes everything cheaper. Or is it just another way of showing laziness? Too bone idle to hit the alt button? 🤷🏻♀️
@@macsmiffy2197 Something small and picky to be fair
Do any of you know governments need unemployment as it keeps labour costs low , otherwise people would lobby for more money and because theyd be no unemployed the forms would havw to pay.
A war on benefits they have to blame somebody , who was it that caused the debt ??
Its a no brainer. Tax companies like BP and Amazon and the energy companies who pay negligible tax on gargantuan profits
First time seeing this channel and the last ..... Headline designed to stoke anger ...
Lin i hope they tax your rents as at 40%, MP are over paid for the time they do only work approximately 40 weeks a year
That’s why she talks like a Tory she is absolutely vile she does not have a clue ….. this is what happens you get a certain amount of money and think I am the big cheese 🧀 well she is not she is the type of person that we will not see on tv much she is not wanted at all this is what happens to ppl on right wing channels !!
Work your way up then be told to down size your home that you work 30 odd years and pay and have your pension tax and heating off that s
How the young ones look at the way this country is going 😢
Short sighted Lin, many British people are working their fingures to the bone and getting nowhere fast.
Seems to me that some self elevating people (Lin) need to pull their head out from where the sun don't shine and get a reality check.
Absolutely spot on,she is deluded, and no idea about real people living today.
Slashing benefits won't reduce debt here's why
benefits have a economic multiplier of around 0.9
For every £1 you cut your saving 10p
40% of claimants are on in work benefit and we spend collectively 20 billion on housing subsidies
Looking at these figures building more council houses would be a better option to reduce debt (I know it sounds upside down but structural investment comes from a different part of the balance sheet and is written off over time)
14 years! Well better never get sick or unemployed or homeless. Remember don’t get sick or old! You ever think decreasing young peoples support might turn them to the dark side of the economy? Nope middle class and no life experience is evident.
Omg!!! Leave the benefits alone
Lin just wants working people to pa6 her mortgages off....she has properties don't you know? 😂
Probably wants to repeal all tenant rights too
How does rishi only pay 23%?.... he must have a good tax avoidance accountant
He has.. Even better than that, he'll not pay a penny in inheritance tax, when his family inherit his father in law's billions. :)
It's because it's capital gains tax instead of income tax
Management is a negative as well most of them don’t like the people who work for them and treat their staff like crap making the staff hate them and hate the workplace
Their choice to get into debt to go to uni .
Always target the the most poor Appalling as ever. All these BASKET companies get away with murder!
Marina is right, again. Slashing benefits will hit the economy as well as impoverishing people even more. We need to retrain, offer apprenticeships, tax the tax dodgers in the tax havens, release the abilities of UK people by offering promotion to the talented. Living in Canada for five years I found, first a good technical education but then a policy of promoting those with talent up the ladder. After working here for most of my life in the UK I find the opposite is true here. Result? Poor management which is 80% of our UK problems. And of course Quitting the EU by the EU Quitters.
Get the money from the rich and stole trillions not billlions and put them in tax heaven that where our money is.
love u Marina....
If you ever get Miss "Olive Skin" as a DWP medical assessor you will be doomed to fail..
Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if some of her claimants off themselves
lets get multinationals to pay fair taxation!!!!!
They can't afford it after lobbying fees.
How about investing in more psychologist to look at why people are depressed, sort the root cause.
The simple truth is this government doesn't care about the national health.
Maybe the government should concentrate on themselves and the amount of waste the government creates itself and large corporations relook at their taxes who in this country are not paying their taxes take another look at MP's expenses now that would get some bums twitching wouldn't it
When I was working, I’m going back in time now has been at one £1.80 an hour. They won’t even get out of bed for that. We had to work for that years. I work for the house for 33 years and all you do is get bloody Tax on what you get This country is Tax up to the hill with everything bloody tax VAT. Lift the income tax threshold to £20k before you pay income tax as Reform UK propose.
Nothing will change under Starmer and his cronies. Starmer got in just to have power over everyone and be center of attention.
when i let out my properties to exploit the vulnerable!!!!!
You must be a reform voter..
There are just not enough rich people in the country to support the level of expenditure. Most people are a drag on the finances for the country.
Tax the rich properly.
When you lose your job thats depressing enough ' let alone the bullying from the working public who seem to think their all fat & lazy ' forcing somone to work when their depressed makes things worse ' our brain needs a rest just as much as our bones & mucles
Increase taxes on non doms?
That first caller is totally delusional about benefits
VAT exceptions on private schools, non-dom benefits, closing of tax-loopholes used by dig multi-nationals and the super rich (including our PM), cutting down on MP's exuberant spending (e.g. helicopter ride to travel 50 miles/private jets). Funny how we hear nothing from the Tories about this.
Shouldn’t cut benefits just stop the millions who are now choosing it as a career choice which it was never intended for…
MPs should get far more.
All theses people are clueless there's a difference between business can vs business will its a dog eat dog world business main goal is profits they ain't gonna spend huge amount of time and money to make work accessible to a tiny few they can just empolye someone else also benefits ain't paying a rich lifestyle amount it covers bills and that's about it if you wanna really sort things out look towards the banks get them to lower intrest rates for mortgages then put a cap on rents then look towards theses big company's making billions a year in profits they can easily afford to not only pay more wages but also reduce the cost of items and till make huge profits greed destroys all and that's what we are seeing big company's and the rich milking the rest of the population for as much as they can get as quickly as they can get
10 minutes in, a pensioner thinks we should slash benefits... whilst complaining that he doesn't get a benefit because he's too rich.
Like it or not, the state pension is a benefit.
I don't wish to deny any pensioner the state pension.
Why would you want to work for something the government can print for free?
Dunno.. Why do you?
That Lin is actually quite dumb.
Slasing benefits would make the mental health situation even worse in this country and then you would end up increasing pressure and costs on other government departments and services that would dwarf what you expected to save anyway. It's a false economy as poverty is very, very expensive.
Couldn't believe Lin mei , comment to caller suffering from stress . So disrespectful
Ban benefits to FOREIGNERS!!!
Foreigners don't get benefits. Educate yourself.
@@yorewhyworry7217 Anyone born in the UK to foreign immigrants get benefits. They are still foreign to the UK as far as I am concerned. They should have never been allowed any financial benefit of any kind. Our country is collapsing because of uncontrolled mass immigration brought about by the treasonous opening of our borders which was not lawful. New arrivals are being put up in hotels and given housing that is a financial benefit. So maybe my use of the world benefits was not quite correct is is correct foreigners and their offspring are getting financial support which is not sustainable. They will all grow old and will want increasing help form the NHS and pensions. Who is paying for that?
4% delivery tax is sensible for online businesses.
How about go after the energy companies that made mass profits and go for billionaires with off shore bank accounts
