    Writing in as a Palestinian-American. I just wanted to thank you again for educating on your platform about Belize, because I didn’t know about this specific country and its history until I found your channel.
    Today I was doing okay-ish and just filled with anger and irritation, but it eventually dissipated into sadness. I’ve been thinking way too much. The existentialist spiral feels like it has swallowed my life. But there’s something I appreciate that you touched on in this video, which is that we still have to get up and continue our lives. I’m inspired by those who face their oppressors in-person and don’t back down or give up or abandon their people. I feel that if they can continue fighting for the right to exist and inhabit their land, then I have no excuse to give up.
    You were talking about how you didn’t learn the language growing up, and I relate to what you said. I think my dad must have a lot of deep thoughts that go unspoken, like the fact that his kids can live in a bubble of safety in the U.S., especially if (we) assimilate. My dad smokes cigarettes and drinks, and tbh he spends a lot of time staring into space on the patio - I feel like I finally understand what that’s all about lol. He must have a lot of thoughts/experiences that nobody could understood, even if he was able to string the words together. He’s just like… quietly suffering all the time.
    Anyways! I hope you don’t mind me writing a lot. I just feel like I am watching your video at the perfect timing, and now I’ll try to get back on my feet and into a better headspace.
    💙 ily

    I think it’s beautiful that you set up an ofrenda. Honoring our loved ones and ancestors should never be limited to one group.

    Kat! as a mexican, i love your altar de muertos! I love seeing this tradition used by a lot of non-mexican people bc it's so healing to remember our loved ones with joy and love. An besides we do share our mesoamerican background where we can share this. (No but really i fell you like a cousin or smt) By the way, do you like the smell of cempasúchitl? A lot of people hate it, but to me is the most autumn-y smell ever.

    I really appreciate you speaking about your indigenous experience. I don’t see a lot of you tubers speak about indigenous culture the way you do. As an indigenous Mexican person this makes me feel seen. I watched Killers of the Flower Moon also and thought it was so sad but had the same reaction as you. Our stories are a collective grief we all hold. Thank you for sharing 🫶🏼

    your channel is soo good because you emphatically talk about so many cross-cutting, relevant issues and life experiences.

    i cried when you talked about the pipe, the colonizer story is the same all around the globe as the world seen this month: dehumanize and demonize the natives, break them down into submission in the name of peace, destroy their land when they fight back, erase their history and language, erase their existence from memory and paper. sometimes i wonder how colonized countries would have developed without the colonization, and my heart breaks all over.
    this talk has always been relevant and remember we have the present and the future, we can learn and educate each other, build community against the constitution that thrived on our people blood.

    Hey Kat- thank you so much for talking about the people of Palestine. It feels like colonization is something that will continue to happen but we must do our due diligence to educate ourselves and others on how these situations affect all of us in the end. I've been following you for quite sometime and appreciate what you do!

    About honouring the loved ones we've lost - it is actually also Polish (or slavic in general, i am not sure) tradition, to visit their graves at the 1st of November to light a candle and bring flowers.

    I can relate to your feelings. That's how I feel when I hear stories about Mexico and how so much culture and tradition was lost because of colonization and forced assimilation.

    Well what a lovely way to close out my favorite holiday than with a vlog from you! Thanks so much for the vibes and I hope you and lil Rocky are doing as amazing as you can be. My sister and I recently lost our Dad a couple months ago and she sent me something saying she was doing an ofrenda this year. My first thought was wondering if this was even "allowed" as we are not of that nationality, nor do I remember anyone doing something like this in my childhood. I never know what I should or shouldn't do in these situation. I do know that I have an intention on setting up an alter for my lost loved ones when my oldest finally moves out and I get the room to do so.

    about the desensitization in relation to the massacre of native peoples, I get it. I'm Brazilian, and here the killings and the land steal are still happening. media and the government (especially the last one, which was very much aligned with fascist ideologies) just brush it over and if you try to raise your voice, white people (widows of the last government) just shut you over, so people here just stopped talking about sensitive issues like this.

    The fact that she had toclarify three times that shes not Mexican like its a fucking insult or an embarrassment to be Mexican. Its a fucking privilege to be Mexican or if youre at least get to be part Mexican. Its called being lucky!!!

    • @katherinekaras
      @katherinekaras  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      lol thats one way to perceive what i said - i clarified that because doing something that another culture does can be appropriating. i was explaining why i was making an ofrenda if it's not part of my culture. i never fucking said it was bad to be a mexican or even insinuate that - take that bullshit somewhere else do not project your insecurities onto me
