iNSTEAD! being released after Save Me was huge whiplash!! Also XH are the leading composers and directors when it comes to making their own music :) iNSTEAD! was absolutely the member's influence, primarily Junhan and Jooyeon being metalheads themselves The members having wildly different tastes is actually an ongoing joke with the heroes, describing themselves as a "melting pot" of different interests and genres! The Open Beta track you missed 'Save Me' was actually the members wanting to make a release that actually suits Jungsu's taste, since he is one of the members who actually leans more towards emotional pop songs, rather than the varying sub-genres of rock that XH typically releases (that aren't b-sides lol)
Its always fun to see people react to Xdinary Heroes bc they tend to be a hit or miss with people. If you're a kpop enjoyer you're not used to their sound so its understanding if its not for you. Or kbands in general bc they go for a more punk route and personally as a rock lover I love their sound. I love kpop too but rock is where my heart lies so I actually ult them! I personally think songs like Happy Death Day and Haircut are their sound and I hope they never change bc most people don't enjoy that sound. Like yes music for us that enjoy that type of sound!

I like their official live clips but nothing beats their actual concert clips. Especially the Troubleshooting album's concert clips on their channel. Money On My Mind, Dreaming Girl and Until the End of Time live sounds sooo good!
Also, mad respect for the timing bc they just released the instrumental sampler for their upcoming album that drops in 2 weeks. Perfect time to catch up!
One of my favorite things about xdinary heroes is all the behind the scenes content. For Troubleshooting they released not only vocal recordings but also the drum and guitar recordings and they also released a video talking about the making process of each song while listening to instrumentals only. These videos really show the "math isn't mathing" part of the writing credits 😂 i guess these jyp producers can't always do the genres they're into so maybe they just have jam sessions with XH or something because they were all in a little room geeking out on Jun Han's guitar recording lmao 😂😂
oh I'm definitely going to check that out! I'm just so impressed the members composed something so sick, like they haven't even been working together that long but their musical chemistry is already so good 😭 -therese
@@AudioAddictionmedia Hello again! They've just released a video on the JYP channel talking about the making of their new album coming out this week! They went into how Instead came about and it shows some behind the scenes videos as well. Very cool stuff if you want to check it out!
This was really fun to watch to wile away a quiet evening w/ y'all! I knew songs like Good Enough and Instead would blow you away, but it was a pleasant surprise to see how much you dug their other stuff like Boy Comics and Break The Break. I don't think they've really talked shop extensively about their instruments and equipment, aside from maybe Junhan in a few lives. But JYP did post a vid called Find Trouble Inside for the release of Troubleshooting where they just sit around and discuss the writing/recording process for each song on the album, which I know you'd find insteresting. I made a (likely not comprehensive) playlist of their covers, if you're interested in checking it out. My favs are their covers of Drown by Bring Me The Horizon, Tomboy by Gidle, and Love My Right by EXO. But they've also done some Day6 covers of course. There are a few live performances I highly recommend, from various shows and concerts and official live clips posted by JYP. - PIrates, b-side from Hello World, live clip on the xh yt channel, still has a lot of that experimental kpop influence of their early stuff but the vocals and chorus are chefs kiss. - Undefined, another b-side from their full album Troubleshooting, there's a concert clip but I really like the one they did for the yt channel Montbest. - Bicycle, b-side from Deadlock, live clip on the xh yt channel, it makes me feel like I'm ascending in the bridge part. - Dear H, b-side from Deadlock that is sort of a companion to Good Enough, there's an mv but I recommend the live clip on the xh channel. - Pluto, b-side from Livelock, the performance they did on NPOP, it's so goddamn good I still get chills ever time I watch it. - Money On My Mind, b-side from Troubleshooting, watch the official concert clip for Junhan's killer solo. - Night of the Fireworks, final song on Troubleshooting, there are several live and concert clips but I actually recommend looking up some fancams from their recent performance at the Greencamp festival bc they got actual fireworks at the end of the song and it was soo cool. - All 3 of their Immortal Songs appearances, 12/10/22 covering Seoul's Maternal Love by Patti Kim, 4/29/23 covering Why Do You Call Me by Song Chang Sik, and 4/27/24 covering Forbidden Love by Kim Kyung-ho (one of Jooyeon's idols btw, legendary rock/metal vocalist). Fun fact, all 3 times they were picked to perform 2nd to last, all 3 times the soloist who performed after them won the ep, and the 2nd time they won their round only to be beat by the final performer Lee Mujin.
if you want to see live performances from them you should watch their concert videos posted on their channel. you should check out their song money on my mind
I really really like this kind of content! Thank you for going deep dive to Xdinary Heroes. I love bands but XH is that one I definitely stan. One of the reasons might be is that the members are heavily influenced by international rock bands that we know as we grow up and it reflects with their music and performances. I love how their discography varies and they just keep getting better and better. I'm so excited for their 5th mini album they'll release this month.
Thank you so much for checking them out! This was a super enjoyable watch, I’m glad you like their stuff! If you’ll do another video on them, I fully recommend reacting to the live concert version of Money on My Mind that’s on their official channel. It’s lead guitarist Jun Han’s favourite track off of Troubleshooting and one they have a lot of fun performing. I’m pretty sure you’ll love it!
thanks for the deep dive into Xdinary Heroes love them with all my heart and thank you for such a wonderful video and you can also do a deep dive on DPR IAN
@@AudioAddictionmedia I lied.I just got to watch this right now haha. But I'm glad you guys enjoyed it! Not to be a nag, but I think you'll enjoy the covers they did!
I have so much to say about this video 😭 but the Heroes vs Villains discourse is getting me lowkey heated because the name does make a lot of sense based on the concept and the trajectory of the MVs you watched so the degree to which you guys were shocked kinda gave me whiplash 😆 So one key element of the lore that Therese forgot to mention is that the ♭form isn’t what it initially appears to be. They were each separately recruited there under the guise of being able to ‘discover their true selves’ and the place masquerades as a utopia but they discover it’s actually a high govt surveillance totalitarian dystopia. So by the time we meet them in Happy Death Day, they have already become disillusioned but are sort of trapped in there, so they try to dismantle the system from within. The message you guys interpreted as a criticism of kpop wasn’t about kpop at all, but more so about the concept. Of course there’s always real world application but for this one, it’s probably more applicable to the hollowness of our high tech lifestyles, take birthday wishes on social media from people you don’t know or who dgaf about you, for example. lol anyway moving on- Test Me is probably their most concept heavy MV by far, and it opens with the question “if you rig a rigged system, are you a villain or a hero?” this is where they start trying to break the ♭form (we get a wanted poster at the end asking if they are heroes or villains). In Strawberry Cake, the cake basically symbolizes the sweet but ultimately false idealistic promises and expectations they were given. Basically it’s kinda like Portal; the cake is a lie. Also I found it interesting that the cake in strawberry cake is actually just a chocolate cake with strawberries on it, so it’s kinda wearing a disguise. While the cake in Boy Comics (which happens in the Real World) is an actual strawberry cake lol. Then in Haircut they burn down the fairgrounds, get arrested in freaking bad (and burn down the police van lol), then during their jail transfer, they break the brake and essentially cause the simulation to glitch and throw them back out into the real world which is where we find them in little things as they escape from the metaphorical sewers 😂 a tad dramatic but i digress lol. The consistent thread in all this is the concept of duality. The Utopia that’s also a Distopia, The ‘Heroes’ who hack into rigged systems and trash fairgrounds, fight law enforcement and burn stuff down, so basically they are also Villains. And the fandom, Villains who live by the tag line ‘We are all Heroes’. The essence of the whole thing is that it’s a matter of perspective and nuance, anyone can be a hero or a villain depending on who’s telling the story. You can also be both of those things within the same story. Heroes and Villains are just 2 sides of the same coin. I personally think it’s a great concept that offers a lot to explore 😁 I’m very much a b-side enjoyer so I have a lot of suggestions, but I’ll leave those in a separate comment. Thanks for checking out XDH!!💕
😂 fair enough I understand the heroes villains concept I guess we were just having a little too much fun with it and rolling with it lol Thanks for all the corrections and extra context! -Alex

Thanks for the reaction I have a couple of XH songs in my playlist and now I have more to add lol. Another band I would recommend is One Ok Rock, they are not Kpop tho. If you do check them out, I highly encourage you guys to watch live performances instead of mv. Imo the live versions are the best.
