How could anybody in their right mind give this a thumbs down? It is masterful. There are but a handful of people on the planet who can play like this. And for Bach to conceive it in the first place is almost unthinkable.
The sound of Chris’s mandolin here seems to take on a cross between a harpsichord and lead violin. It add a bit of needed percussion. And Yo Yo is playing that cello up so high it’s nearly sounding like a viola, and Meyer’s bass comes up to cello territory. Gorgeous.
Bach is the one composer I believe whose music transfers in its pure genius form to more different instruments in different combinations than any other composer. And we are so fortunate to have these three great virtuosos to make us be glad to be alive and listening. The album is perfect.
Exquisite recording. The acoustics reproduced from the CD through a R-2R DAC, a tube amp with Gold Lion and Tungsram/RCA tubes, and Proac 1SC speakers are so natural and balanced. Soundstage and imaging are superb. It's wonderful that it's a soft recording, so the amp can gradually ratchet up the volume. Love it.
every once in a too-long while, people who've mastered their art come together & collaborate anew. The end result here, for me, is a joy beyond almost anything. What a fantastic recording. bought the CD because of this

What I enjoyed the most was the delicacy in which the intruments dialog, due to the natural and beautiful sound of the mandolin. This combination was so beautiful!
I first heard this trio together in Goat Rodeo and fell in love with their track Attaboy. Since then i find them when I can. Their music is always perfection. That they are each beautiful on the outside too is a delightful bonus. ;)

Brilliant! Fiendish picking on the mandolin by Chris Thile. It's always more enjoyable when the musicians look like they are having fun.
Chris is miles ahead of the pack of all other mandolinists I have ever heard in 60 years of listening to and grooving on a dozen great players.
Every time I think Thile can't get better he proves me wrong. This is masterful.
