I wouldn't go so far as to say that Lihua was power hungry. She married into the royal family to protect her Yang family as best she could, was trodden on by her husband and had her heart broken. She suffered in the palace and slowly, yes, she did become bitter and darker. But I can relate to her being hurt by her family. She technically was the Empress Dowager and had earned the right to the power she had - mostly - but I also agree that she was sour over everything for too long.
