Coming soon, the Cheap Audio Robot.
CAM AI
In my opinion, a better Randy catch phrase is, " Don't binge watch; binge listen and fill your soul with hapiness." Juat saying.
10:15 don't feel bad you didn't make the list. It didn't mention Steve Guttenberg either, and he's the grandfather of audio reviews.
Or Jay's Iyagi. He's very good too, although many of the products he reviews are oftentimes slightly more high-end than the mass consumers might consider, so it's not real surprising that he's not on the list.
Whatever room that girl was in with the robot must have been cold.
That's not a girl.
Top audio reviewers and no Cheapaudioman, Andrew Robinson, Ron New Record Day or Steve Guttenberg WHAT?
Agreed. Nor Jay's Iyagi. :(
Q : "What is the Best Receiver from 72-82?
Ai : "Jerry Rice... and he didn't even PLAY in the 70's"
He didn’t play in 82 either. 😂
He was drafted in 85
Mighty fine hat you have on there! Didn’t know you were a Husker fan!
Techmoan introduces his viewers to rare or obsolete formats. For example, have you come across a German tape cartridge played with a stylus?
You don't know Techmoan? CLUTCH THE PEARLS! He's great. And, as always, thanks for watching.
@daveandreahoward8203 Finding this out is like hearing my parents had me but hadn't met.
Yes. He is one of the best when it comes to learning about vintage and obsolete, but still extremely interesting, cool, and unique gear from the past! He always showcases stuff that makes you go; "Wow! That tech was available way back then?!"
Which audio component has the best floral bouquet with a honey pepper mouth feel and oaky apple finish?
The Yamaha receiver has an oak finish.
Great question
I just acquired the Sony SS-CS5s for the bedroom. They lack some bass as they are bookshelf... but the audio coming out of them is sssmmmooootthhhh. They are so much different than my 'party' speakers in the living room. The Sonys are great for the money. Thank you for the recommendation Randy.
I asked Claude AI to recommend drivers and a crossover design using an old Tangent cabinet. I provided the Tangent model number and told it I wanted a speaker that was mostly like a typical British speaker but with a bit more punch and dynamics. It responded with recommendations on readily available modern drivers, a full crossover design and said that it would have a similar sound signature to the BBC speakers of the late 70s but with an added touch of West Coast punch and dynamics. I have not tried the design but was impressed by how succinctly it responded. It gave me a full shopping list of parts including the stuffing for inside the speaker as well as a crossover schematic and asked me if wanted any recommendations for further bracing of the cabinet. It would have taken me a long time to come up with anything like the answer I got which took 8 seconds
I think the one thing here missing is, that you need to tell the model "you are an expert audiophile with X years of experience, etc, etc" and then ask the questions.
Having the model assume the role, helps.
There is no place like Nebraska. ;)
3 of the first 4 integrated under $1K were $1199?
Ai has great taste in vintage Receivers
Two points come to mind.
I am old school and am suspicious of anything AI. Give me a human perspective on such a subjective topic and I'll be happy. Keep doing what you're doing and leave the AI to the sheeple, imo. Thanks as always. Take care , stay warm and safe. All the best.
Well that was a fun watch, great idea!
I thought the catch phrase was "...sit down, grab a cup of coffee and ....etc"
Greetings! Have really enjoyed the content I've watched of yours. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Would you have any recommendations for a quality system for those of us with limited space? (e.g
- living in a RV)
I would like to request another video where you ask questions about headphones. Based on the AI answers, it seems there is data on the topic. I would like to see Randy cover headphone content in a follow up - Thanks!
One of the best receivers of the time may have been the Tandberg 2080. 80 watts per side with Toroidal transformer and 3db headroom. Very strong performer. The tuner section was top shelf as well. $1400.00 price tag limited broad distribution.
I’d love to hear what you have to say about the Rega amps. I have an Elex-R pushing my Lintons and have heard nothing but praise for the IO and Brio.
i want you to ask the AI if I can afford groceries while buying budget audio gear under $50
Genius idea asking Groc. hilarious! It’s where we’re going I guess. You should incorporate Groc into your reviews. It might get you on its list. Really enjoyed it. Great job bro, peace out.
This was fun!!! It is funny that the TH-camrs do seem to have the most traffic from likely younger viewers mostly into headphones.
iwii from Romania has the ability to describe sound signatures like no one else.
Luxman, Denon & Vector Research made excellent equipment during those years. I've owned all three of those brands.
What up Cheap? Not on the list is baloney!! ( Bologna?) Number one in your loyal followers' hearts.
You should have AI assist in selecting a setup and then hook it all up. I would have it help with everything from choosing speakers, DAC, amps, to getting it all set up in the correct position.
I like my main speakers in my sound system my question is, is there just a ribbon tweeter in a box I can hook up and put on top of my main speakers to improve sound quality?
Surprisingly thorough and mostly accurate answers
Ask it to differentiate between class-A, class-AB and class-c and determin a pecking order. Ask the same for vinyl or cd, analog or digital. Ask which is the best streaming service and why. Ask if active speakers are the future of hi-fi, or will there always be a place for passive speakers. Ask which should be prioritised, room treatment or correction by use of EQ, or are they both costly solutions fabricated to solve trivial issues. Ask which manufacturer’s equipment provides the best longevity and reliability. Ask it to define ‘high end audio’. Ask it why Denafrips and other dac manufacturers can’t be arsed to provide remote control functionality. Ask it to produce a list of the top 10 test tracks. Ask how many db are too loud in a ground floor apartment. Ask what is the best way to get your wife/girlfriend to take an interest, or at least tolerate your audiophile lifestyle. Ask why so many audiophiles are elitist, esoteric and belittling of those with opposing opinions. Ask why, if the room is such a dominant influence on the sonic characteristics of your hi-fi, why don’t more people choose headphones. Most importantly, ask for recommendations of a manufacturer that produces beer fridges with inverter compressors which won’t cause interference.
Interesting video, creative and well presented. Kudos to asking for a review of your own channel. Lots of respect for your self-confidence. What might be interesting is to ask AI for the best system for $1,000, $3,000, $5,000 and $10,000. That is, for each price point what are the best complementary devices for streaming/CD or vinyl setups?
The real value of this video is contrasting your practical, real-world assessment with what AI suggests.
Why don't you just go and do that then?
You know you've made it when ChatGPT or any other AI can write an entire article on you. Well done, sir.
Working with AI can be a blast or a nightmare. It's always a crapshoot to see what the results will be but always fun.
Hoping you guys are staying warm down there with this seriously weird weather these days.
...better than being on fire though.
Hoping any of the community out in California/LA are staying safe.
You should have asked it technical audio questions. I've been chatting with Gemini and so far, I'm impressed.
A few Qs - "What's better: Transmission line, ported, or sealed cabinet speakers?" "What gives better bang-for-buck: passive speakers or powered speakers?" What's better: Hi-Fi speakers or studio monitors?"
You should never Google yourself. It will only lead to pain and suffering. A search engine never helped me find my keys, so what good are they anyway.
Congrats to Dave The Honest Audiophile on making Skynet's top 4 reviewers!
I feel like the best "ask AI" content is going to be highlighting when you think that AI is super wrong about something, and why you disagree with its answer (like: the Audio-Technica LP-120xUSB).
I think we are in the golden age of AI content, as the answers are trying to be as relevant as possible. It is a matter of time before the AI goes the way of Google where the top hits are biased to benefit the owner of the AI, and who pays them. Thanks for the video.
Randy, I don't care if you know what you are talking about or not. I just hope you bring as much happiness and entertainment to others as you do to me. Thank you for your wacky almost friendship and good cheer
Maybe ask, regarding speaker placement, "what sounds better, a long wall setup, or a short wall setup?"
Randy,
It's official now! You have been replaced by an AI.
This is a very interesting game with AI - the AI is like a grandson who came home from kindergarten in the evening and tells you all the news of the day. 🤗
This was interesting. Wouldn't like for you to do this often. I do think you should have been in top 10. Techmoan is a British fellow. I watch his channel but, he doesn't do new product, he is more electronic nostalgia or quirky items based. He is good but, really shouldn't be listed in your catagory. I like your blend of humor & information. I don't have any of the issues mentioned about you. I have had a pair of Bro 3s for several years & are my favorite Bookshelf speakers!
I wish you would compare the cheap chip amps again but better. The 3255, tda7889e, and others. Also what does Denon and other companies use for op amp chips?
I got the Triangles abt a month ago- they are amazing!!!
Please ask what would be the best system for someone getting back into the hobby after many years away. I would prefer an integrated amplifier; as physical space is an issue. Price under $5k. Thank you. ✌️
You strike me as a watch enthusiast or collector based on the watches I saw on your wrist in various episodes. Would be nice to see your collection though its not audio or cheap audio related.
It’s OK Randy, we still love you anyway. 😂
Hey, what a cool tag line! 🤣
But of course I think all of us can agree that audio cables wrapped in $500 bills (the more the better) produce superior "audiophile" experience (the "experience" being extremely subjective).
Surprised it suggested (quite rightly) Rega in amplifiers but not for their much more famous turntables.
You do realize one of these AI's was fooled into including elmer's glue in a pizza recipe?
Randy said it best "this is boring"
Your Great you have helped me from making some bad audio decisions.
Go Big Red
The main thing I always tell myself.
When it comes to AI, the first word is Artificial.
In other words, probably not real.
I think it's funny that an AI nailed you on your shift towards higher priced components. Need I say more? LOL
Google ai answered my question before I finished so I asked if it could read minds and the answer shocked me. Apparently they can scan brain waves and are able to read minds to a point but give it a few years
I've seen a few of the Honest Audiophile videos, mostly headphone stuff.
Gooooo Biiiiig Red!
Grok did pretty good. The advice was a bit variable but I didn't spot anything actually dangerous.
You should check out Techmoan though, he's unique. (As are you, of course.)
Missed the Denon GR-555. Best looking. If you watch Darko you would say the AI missed Jay.
Can you review the Aperion Audio PST MKII Planar-Ribbon Super Tweeter Please?
Are you from Nebraska?
Originally. South of York
Ai can tell you quite a lot about audio technology. Gemini or GTP. Under 200 it said sony sscs5 and that is entirely your fault. Other Recs were Edifier P12: A very affordable option with a surprisingly good sound for the price.
* Fluance Signature HiFi: Known for their stylish design and decent sound quality.
* Klipsch R-41M: Offer a more "forward" sound with emphasized highs, which some listeners may prefer.
I am not so certain manufacturers can't buy recs on AI.
It didn't even list the Full of Crap series as notable works? For shame!
Well, as far as bias based on personal preference…that almost goes without saying.
How about asking the same question of several AI platforms to see the spread of choices , plus possibly one product upon which all agree ? Shopping for an AI provider .
i ask Copilot stuff all the time. im a big fan :)
Let the AI build whole systems (speakers, amp, source(s)) in different price points
Randy, deep dive Techmoan!!! You will thank me.
Sorry to be off topic, but I've been meaning to ask: is that a Nebraska hat?
As someone who follows the Big Ten... I'm going to say 99.9% YES
Yup. I grew up there and graduated from UNL
As someone who now has to follow the B10 due to their crap conference dissolving… I’m going to add 00.1% to the above.
“Hope ya got a free bowl of soup with that hat.
Looks good on you though” Rodney Dangerfield
Norman Boy couldn’t resist.
@@cheapaudioman Sweet! I learned something new today! (BTW, Crazy games the last two nights. Who's your pick to win the NC?)
GROC: Why do you watch the CheapAudioMan's Channel? Beep Bop Beep BOOP WEEP POP EAK WHOP CLICK CLICK What makes the CheapAudioMan's stand out from other audio reviewers is one key thing. When Randy gets very impressed with a speaker or certain piece equipment he brings his wife in for final evaluation. Her approval hold greater weight for the listening audience.
You could make one that's a bit more entertaining. Name it Sith Audio AI. 😁
HK 430 twin - hands down
Ask AI...what is the best vintage turntable? What is the best vintage integrated amplifier.
You are missing the opportunity to do a tier ranking list for public AI and the quality of their audiophile recommendations. That would be fun.
Cool idea.
As aleck72 has mentioned, you need to have it assume a persona to get meaningful results. Otherwise you're just getting random blabber.
AI is often little more than a "sophisticated" parrot, or version of Google. It gives bland and vague answers. Not a replacement for skilled humans.
I agree.
What about DAC's under $500?
Too bad you didnt make the top 10 Randy, think you deserve better.
lol. More work to do!
No. You are the best audio online! Hands down.
Not great content, but does show that TH-camrs who do reviews will be redundant due to conversational AI
I can't see that happening. There might be AI reviews alongside human TH-cam reviewers but I think people will always gravitate towards a human. Besides, how will AI review a stereo, speaker or amplifier? It can't set them up and listen.
Watching this video while in the background listening to Teddy Swims 🙂
I love AI answers 😂
How do I know the AI is not going to take over anytime soon? Because they think the Sony are a good speaker!
I see you had to wear your nowledge cap. 🤓
I find that you have to be very specific, I'm sure if you asked Audiophile TH-camrs instead of just audio you would of shown up
sadly you have to be an expert in Promts in order to get factual info from AI. AI consistantly makes fundamental math errors and gives false info. You literaly have to tell AI to give you the most accurate and precise with every single promt. I also add to check there info 10 more times and then if gives a differant answer lol. Also I presume you already knew that asking for "best" is pointless without criteria. Peole will almost always not the get proper advice for best if they don't say what criteria would accomplish the set value for "best". Odd example if you will= it won't tell you what items make a bomb. It will tell you what common household items should I be carefull around because they are commonly used to make bombs...
Ai will not be as good as a real listener. It will output results based on where it is pointed to and what it has been fed/put into it. It is using inference to generate what its saying.
Rega amps are very good, but much better value for money in the UK where the IO is £420 / $513 rather than the $725 in this video...
Some of the people on that list don't even do equipment they do sound and music theory and analytics like audiophile University. I don't see the appeal for regular peeps looking for reviews on equipment.
Try to ask about Cheap Audio reviews and you'll be shocked 😅
You dont know tevhmoan ?
Tragic
Question: Are bookcase speakers a substitute for floorstanders, has audio technology left floorstanders behind? OR, at any given price point, can you find a better sounding floor stander, than a bookcase speaker? Or are bookcase speakers just a better price proposition because they're cheaper?
Good night
