Here's the reason this works for both side. Lions side: First we get a compensatory pick if he leaves, he can help mentor Hooker ik hear me out Jones is a more effective runner than Goff while Goff can help both of them with accuracy. Also we get competition at the back up position to push both of them. Jones side: Get away from the pressure of starting to hone his own skill. Start to learn this offensive which is huge because if Ben Johnson does leave Jones could follow him as a bridge qb and compete to remain the starter similar to Goff. Win win for both side
I don't know if I'm buying it but when your in the heat of the playoffs, you need to make sure your prepared. Look at the 49ers a few years ago and live Lions helped with that new rule of having an extra QB on the roster but I don't think it's happening. I think he has more opportunity to play with Vikings to be honest. They already have pretty average QB. Personally, I would rather have Hooker as our backup. I know DJ has more experience but giving Hooker that opportunity to gain more experience of Goff gets hurt is a good thing and I don't Think Jones increases your odds of winning enough but nothing wrong with a 2nd backup
Thing is if you add someone to the roster someone has to go bye bye. I like what I have saw out of Hooker so far he just needs snaps. I also like what I saw from Fromm in the preseason, so why would we?
Who is behind hooker right now? Let him go whoever that is and let hooker and jones battle for 2nd string....if the lions are actually thinking abt getting him
If this were to actually happen, what happens to Hooker? Down to the practice squad? Release Fromm? Lions could then lose Hooker to a team that picks him up. Does BH like Jones that much more?
I don’t think we need him. Unless you getting rid of hooker. We don’t need any controversy in that locker room. Hooker has a big arm and athletic like jones so your just substituting experience
Maybe Hooker hasn’t shown what is needed to make this move unthinkable. Maybe he becomes a solid #3 because Jones is a more solid #2 in a playoff stretch.
Having that compensatory pick and that they would only have to pay him 350,000 this year is worth the move alone even if he’s no.3 behind hooker. This has little to do with Hooker and more to do with paying a few dollars to add a pick in next year’s draft
Not at all. But by the off chance you need him for a playoff game you would have a MORE experienced QB with way more starts who has won a playoff game before. No shade at Hendon Hooker at all!
@officialctsports I understand you apprehension about the viability of Hooker in the playoffs but don't you think Hendon understands the system better? How long would it take Jones to acclimate to the system and his new teammates. Is that the best option rather than running with a guy who understands the system and has some rapport with the team. Plus has a much stronger and more accurate arm.
This is a no brainer by by Sudfeld, see how Jones functions within a stable org/team, and we have a backup with a ton of starts under his belt. I don't think we'd be paying him anything as the giants would be taking on the bulk of the money for 2 years. Let him and Hooker duel it out for the backup role if indeed we can get him for next to no money.
I would RELUCTANTLY take DJ over Hooker, because DJ Has ACTUAL STARTING EXPERIENCE. Plus, Hooker is not NFL ready. If Goff goes down, i would be Confident( With Jones i use that term VERY LOOSELY) with DJ more than Hooker.
@bralendennis people said the same thing about Purdy. And I understand your logic and it does make sense. But at this point in time the glaring need is getting vildor out of there.
Corners have minor injuries. They’ll all be back soon. We need more depth at wr with the loss of Raymond. Vaki can return punts. A vet at wr wouldn’t hurt though
If he’s cleared waivers the contract would be dirt cheap and he did beat the Vikings in a playoff game. 🤷 so it’s a capable backup Quarterback for nothing . Should this rumor become reality . It means Jake Fromm never touches the field . My question is what’s would it mean for hendon hooker if we pick up Danny dimes as a backup Quarterback option
Nothing. It would mean nothing. If they sign Jones they aren't signing him to a multi year deal. This would just give the team a better option in the event Goff suffers an injury.
I think anytime you have a chance to look at an upgrade, you have to look at it. I heard he would make a solid backup in the NFL, he's just not a number 5 pick or a starter.
Signing Daniel Jones is a direct message to Hendon Hooker: you are not good enough to help us this year, period. Hendon is either your back up quarterback or he is not. Do not sign Daniel Jones. Play Hendon, give him the experience you say he needs, roll the dice. I would be OK with signing Daniel Jones, and putting him on the practice squad as your QB3. If Jared Goff gets injured for multiple games, Then you’ll have a new QB1 and QB2 and probably a competition.
Here's the reason this works for both side.
Lions side:

Win win for both side
If you put it like that than get Danny dimes
If I was Jones, I would go to Detroit to learn Ben’s system and then follow him to his head coaching job.
We have Hendon and I'm good with that.
Who's behind him? 3rd string qb?
@@chrischris8346who needs a third stream

Potential compensatory pick most importantly.
Great point
If this were to actually happen, what happens to Hooker? Down to the practice squad? Release Fromm? Lions could then lose Hooker to a team that picks him up. Does BH like Jones that much more?
Didnt we get NY twice in the preseason , here recently? These coaches know something. Buy low, sell high.
I don’t think we need him. Unless you getting rid of hooker. We don’t need any controversy in that locker room. Hooker has a big arm and athletic like jones so your just substituting experience
If you weren’t good for the Giants, I can’t hold that against you, especially a QB! He could end up being the running version of Goff.
Let’s hope not
Why? Great backup, cheap, comes with a potential comp pick and would allow us to trade Hooker for higher value
Lions and the Ravens make the most sense
Maybe Hooker hasn’t shown what is needed to make this move unthinkable. Maybe he becomes a solid #3 because Jones is a more solid #2 in a playoff stretch.
Isn't Danny Dimes the one who started throwing punches at joint Lions-Giants practices in preseason?...
No, it was Nabers i believe

If they sign him I think they trade Hooker for a pick during the draft
So you have just gave up on Hendon Hooker? I still like Hooker over Jones.

I'll believe it when I see it.🤷
Go Lions 🦁
Id rather the lions find a CB than a backup qb....I'd take hooker over jones any day of the week

@bralendennis and I'm not hating on the guy it's just he got beat on every play, it'll become a liability at some point.

No such thing as a 3rd round bust.

This is BS

Daniel Jones subs for injured Jared Goff in the playoffs! Lions and Jones win Superbowl! Brian Dabo’s career and life ends! Touchdown Detroit Lions!
Hooker's a bust?
