I agree that Onward was very boring at first, but got amazing when the quest actually started, but I’m pretty sure that was the point.
And I’m not saying this as some random critic that doesn’t know the process behind making movies, I’m saying this as someone who plans on MAKING movies later on in life, and I can say that I’m fascinated with making your audience feel bored on purpose so that way you feel as much excitement as the characters when something interesting finally happens.
So yeah, to me, even if not every moment clicked, it did nothing wrong and so many things right, so I can say that even if it’s not as entertaining as it could’ve been, that’s only by a little bit, and this is still my second favorite Pixar movie.

My sisters and I loved the film! I would even joke that the brothers reminded me of my cousins. If I may get a little personal, it started to hit home the last time I watched it since I lost my aunt recently and the mom reminded me of her. I miss her so much but the movie, while making me a little teary for now, made me appreciate more the impact she had on my life and how I carry her with me everyday.

I also thought that the brothers were extremely relatable to me and my brother, because even though I don’t find Ian relatable, his relationship with Barley was absolutely how me and my brother are, and my brother also is much more of a father figure to me.

I thought it was a wonderful movie. I first saw it on FandangoNow (I was going to see it in theaters during the second week it was playing, but the threat of Covid occurred and my theaters closed a few days later) and maybe I'll re-watch it on Disney Plus because it got me lost in all its wonder once it wrapped up. The characters are good, the story is great and the animation is fun. I like the combination of modern day and fantasy with the characters and places, the humor it has is nice, ideas and scenes that are creative, interesting and enjoyable, the climax has an awesome, yet funny way of presenting the evil and the ending and twist was very sweet and loving. Some of it is predictable and at times clique, especially with the brothers, Ian and Barley, but I found myself getting into the movie as it continued and it really won me over by the ending and twist.
And I disagree with your opinion on how Frozen 2 ended in comparison to how Onward ended, but this is better though.

I think my favorite thing about this movie is the fact that barley doesn’t get mad or jealous over the the fact that it’s Ian who has magic ability’s and not him

It almost feels like the movie starts off weak on purpose. We start off with a dull suburban world due to how people gave up on magic. Once they went on the quest and more magic was used , things really turned around, especially for Ian’s growth as a character.
This may not go down as Pixar’s greatest film, but I enjoyed the character’s journey in it a lot.

@@matheuslascasas134 I... dont think they executed any idea perfectly to be honest, just never as shallow as Onward. Eh... best characters ever? I dunno. He’s a bit to bumbling and annoying. He’s not a caricature than a character. He has a moment near the end but until then he’s a bit too dumb I think. Constantly yelling and screaming and it got real annoying.
And I’m sorry but was I the only one that thought it was really dumb how the main guy just suddenly remembers all these scenes that were never established of the two getting along? It just randomly lets us know that they’re basically the best of friends. And then that just has me questioning the whole movie! If they got along for pretty much all their lives, why is the main guy suddenly so “embarrassed” by him? It felt flimsy and a cheap way to pull at audience heart strings. It felt rushed and I was kind of enjoying the second half of the movie until the end there.
I can’t with good conscience call him “the best Pixar character”. Here’s a list of people I would put first. Mike and sully. Buzz and woody, all of the incredibles. Wall-E and EVE. And so on and so forth...
      And before you ask, yes.
      I am fun at parties.

    “This is Pixar’s Bright”
I would counter-argue that point in saying, “This is what Bright should have been.”
I keep reminding myself whenever I think of Bright how the world-building falls apart in on itself the moment you start to dissect the world of bright and how, “it is just like our world except that the minorities are the Orcs!” An interesting idea until you realize what that implication means and how it feels kind of... stupid. As if to suddenly imply things like “was there an Abraham Lincoln who fought to free the Orc Slaves?” Or “Was there a Martin Luther King Jr. who popped up after close to 4,000 years to do the I have a dream speech so that Orcs can finally be accepted in a world?” That and “fairies lives don’t matter,” is still one of the most painful dated lines I’ve heard in a film in the longest time.
At least with Onward, they knew the best way to do a “fairy tale characters living in a modern world” approach was to make it its own context. From there, the ideas it tosses out are clever and interesting rather than saying “humans are white, Orcs are black, elves are...” etc. etc. Lindsay’s video about Bright still holds up and it is highly recommended for anyone to watch it if they want a good laugh about Bright’s world.

This movie resonated so hard with him. I've never seen him like that, so touched. If you ask me those last 10 minutes are in the same level to the opening of Up. Just pure beatiful emotion.

It's not just you. Actually it happens quite a bit. Some animation studios do adjust their animation to be more like the actors. I think either in the Arkham games or in BTAS they redid the Joker's animation at times with what Mark Hamill was emoting on his face.

My brother and I lost our dad when we were very little. ( I was three and my brother was eight) At the end when the little brother gives up the chance to speak to his dad so the older brother can resolve his needs put me in tears in front my nieces. I couldn’t explain why it tore me apart. I wasn’t certain myself but it was beautiful and meaningful.

I feel like Pixar just took Chris Pratt's Star Lord trauma of seeing his mom dying and went "hey let's do that but with elves." and the entire time Barely was talking about not wanting to see his dad I'm like "I get it, how many times has this happened to someone." But I was just rolling my eyes during that scene. I mean hell when my grandmother died, I saw her RIGHT after she died-RIGHT after. Her mouth was still open, and I remember asking if she had died in pain. I didn't see the viewing before she was cremated it's one of my biggest regrets. But here....It just DIDN'T stick. I can't put down why though.

This movie broke me. Like, I scared a lady in the theater with how hard I was sobbing on my husband's shoulder when it came to the "emotional resolution" moment. Honestly, this is my favorite Disney film of 2020 (I’m sure “Soul” may take that crown in a few weeks, though). The cast is fantastic, the story is an inventive mix of modern and high fantasy quest stories, and at its heart is an emotional journey of self-discovery and the familial ties that bind. I can definitely see why this was such a passion project for Director Dan Scanlon, and I’m so glad he was able to tell this story that was based on his relationship with his brother and father. Pixar is the king of feels and this brought all of them to me (especially towards the end). Definitely watch if you haven’t seen it yet.👍

So many wonderful fantasy in-jokes and homages, and the story and characters just escalated so beautifully.
