Very informative video. Thank you. I have been diagnosed with this and had a biopsy which confirmed. Started on 80mg steroids then slowly reduced with blood tests monthly, but still inflammatory markers way to high. I am currently on 20mg while awaiting PET scan. Fingers crossed we can sort it out soon.
I have had it almost a year.64.I had covid, then moved and retired, then had bels palsy and pmr.. I am healing quickly by totally changing my diet.Am getting off Prednisone this month.
Just found this channel..WOW!! very informative and to the point on each subject. I am an AS sufferer for over 40 years...i am now 65. Along with IBD and T2D and many other comorbidities it gets very frustrating trying to deal with everything all at once. You become very astute at knowing when things aren't working right...Anti-TNF's ...i have been on all of them...they failed after 8 mos. so now its back to prednisone...MTX doesn't work on AX SPA...most nsaids i find are useless. if you have CKD...that's a definite no-no. CRP and ESR w/o meds > 145 each, chronic anemia from inflammation and MGUS. I do believe that PMR sans GCA (headaches) have creeped in as new pain has developed mostly shoulders and hips...w/o steroids...agony.... but a low dose 0f 10mg per day seems to hold it in check...but now BP is climbing and Blood Sugar goes over 10 mmol/l...I hate steroids but the pain is worse than the drug itself.....i suppose its better than oxycodone for sure....anti ccp and ra factor negative and pos. HLA-B27...seronegative RA.....I think its entirely possible to have late onset of PMR with AS...your thoughts?
Hi Dr Girnita, Thank you for a very informative video! I have a question about the headaches. Are those similar to the ice pick headaches, where all of a sudden you get a very sharp pain on one side of your temple? Are they persistent in this disease?
@@rheumatologistoncall Thank you. I have gotten ice pick headaches over the years once in a great while. Those are pretty painful but they go away quickly. Watching the video made me think about it. I have an appointment coming up in several weeks. Will definitely bring this up. Of course, if I get this really bad I know to go to the emergency room. Thank you again!
I was diagnosed with PMR at the age of 41. It is possible to be younger!!! Now I am out of remission. I enjoyed remission for a little more than four years. I pray for that again. This is very frustrating.
I am 35 years old and a week before got diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. I have syndrome impingement only in my one shoulder . Blood works are negative
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It can be tough to manage these conditions, but staying informed and connected with others can make a big difference. Wishing you strength and support on your journey!
I was diagnosed with PMR & GCA 18 months ago. I was immediatly put on Prednisone and my eyesight problems improved overnight. SInce then I have been weened off of Prednisone but in the last two months shoulder pain has occured in my left shoulder, and last night seemd to be spreading to my right shoulder area. I am wondering if I should go back on Prednisone?
Thank you for this valuable lecture. I have RA but lately I’m having blurry vision and temporal headache which I associate with lack of sleep, also there are times I have stiff shoulder in the morning which also I associate with wrong posture. I have night sweats and I associate this with summer weather here in Saudi. Those symptoms that I mentioned only lasted for a week, is this PMR? Thank you very much
Hi mam! I'm 23 years old I sometimes feel like a water drop sensation , sometimes mild burning sensation some sensation and some of the sensation that I can't even describe I have joint pains sometimes pains in backbone area but that's mild so do I have temporal arteritis?
I think so. Is yours? Mine is. It was 29 but Dr said my kidneys are ok. Then she says inflammation is affecting them so I'm confused and still worried. Or are we just more dehydrated than normal people. I can't tolerate the heat.
My husbands labs have been normal- the only thing that’s abnormal is the protein electrophoresis- IGG, IGA, Beta, Gamma etc. headaches, mushy scalp at the back of skull, pulsating temples, seems like there is fluid is in his eyebrows, eyes look sunken in… we haven’t gotten any answers we are referred to a rheumatologist on 3/7

I am 65 years old had many back surgeries still fighting with my back but one morning woke up in my right hand was swollen twice the size like a pop by hand I waited about two weeks and I couldn’t stand it anymore I went to the ER and they did a bunch of blood tests and told me I had carpal tunnel but then three days later carpal tunnel moved into carpal shoulders and carpal hips that’s when somebody figured it out and they put me on steroids the very first dose I took I woke up the next morning with nearly complete relief it was more than amazing because this sickness is crippling you can open pill bottles carry a coffee cup get yourself a drink nothing sometimes going to the bathroom is a chore by yourself
This is the best video I have seen on this topic. Thanks Dr Girnita
I'm glad you found the video helpful!

Thank you for watching!!!! Thank you for the kind words! You have many videos about ankylosing spondylitis in the channel
PMR can come separately from AS but AS can also cause pain that be similar
The acronyms make your comment hard to read.
Very nice and informative vlog 👍🌹
Thanks, very helpful.
🙏🏻 thank you for watching!!!
Hi Dr Girnita, Thank you for a very informative video! I have a question about the headaches. Are those similar to the ice pick headaches, where all of a sudden you get a very sharp pain on one side of your temple? Are they persistent in this disease?
they can be acute, sudden or they can start and develop over a few days, weeks
if you are concerned, call your doctor to check on you

Hello doctor, thank you for this video. Is there a test to confirm this disease. Thank you.
No test specific! But you need a rheumatologist
Thank you kindly.

I’m 25 and my MD thinks I have this- is there a version for younger people?
Takayasu Disease
Young people can have it too.
Since 2021, auto-immune conditions have become far more prevalent and have affected younger adults that previously observed.
Very nice and informative video
So nice of you❤

I waa diagnosed in my forties during chemotherapy. Is it possible the onset was caused by tamoxefon?
thank you

It's always important to consult a healthcare professional if you have concerns about your health.

morning stiffness can be a sign of inflammation, but can also indicate other health issues, you need a consultation.
