Thanks guys! Great review as always , such a joy to watch this on Friday while I sit in a chair for hours getting chemo. Gary thank you for the awesome details and behind scenes you always point out & Iian cracks me up and love that he is always honest. If I could , could I add 1 more movie for you guys please. If not it's okay. Red dragon (2002) have good weekend.
I remember watching this in the cinema when it came out in 2005 and my girlfriend at the time loved Paris hilton and when she died I jumped and shouted yessssss and the whole cinema laughed 😂
I remember renting this back when it came out from my local Blockbuster and hating it, then watching the Vincent Price one and from there started my love of Vincent Price. So something good came out of it.
To be fair, it really isn't a remake of House Of Wax, it just kinda takes the title. It's kind of an amalgamation of SEVERAL past films, maybe the closest to "tourist trap" as far as actual story itself is concerned. And personally, this has some small gripes, but I really like it. Like the remake of the hills have eyes, you actually get a final GUY, and they actually let him KICK SOME ACTUAL ASS. I also like what they did with the third brother. Was he involved? How involved WAS he? What's he gonna do now? Does he even KNOW his brothers are dead? He wasn't there for any of it, he didn't witness what happened, as a matter of fact, is the guy we see even the brother referred to? Or do we never even meet him and this is just some random guy-- WHAT'S HIS ACTUAL DEAL? The same exact thing they started to do with Winston from Cabin Fever before the sequel just turned him into a blatant idiot.
I think you guys are being a little too hard on this movie. I think its aged well compared to other remakes that came out during that era. Banger of a soundtrack. Very nostalgic for me
I'm gonna agree with Gary on this one. After dragginf it's heels in the opening act and despite some pretty unlikeable characters, the movie really picks up once Jared Padalecki is grabbed and ends up being pretty solid. I didn't ecpect to like it but it was a fairly pleasant surprise, though i did go in with rock bottom ecpectations!
I actually like this film, love the OG but this is fun . It's great that Paris Hilton thought fu asses and got the promotion team to say come watch Paris die. I thought she acted quite well especially her chase scene 😊💜🐾
This is my guilty pleasure movie Ian & Gary are right with all the points they make here.... but i still enjoy it every time i watch it .. thanks for reviewing
When l first watched this movie l must have been 9 or something and l really liked it and of course to see paris hilton die like that is not something you ever forget and l know the film is not perfect but l thought you guys were gonna say you liked it but l guess you do bring some valid points for not liking it I certainly did not know it was a remake I thought lt was an original idea and maybe thats why it always stuck with me. I still think making the entire house of wax was interesting and creative🙂
I haven't watched this film as it never appealed to me, maybe i'll see it on tv late one night and give it a watch. Entertaining review once again guys, you're really hitting your stride now, good stuff. Cheers.
The nicest thing I can say about this movie is that Jared Padalecki went on to bigger and better things 4 months later starring as Sam Winchester in supernatural if any of you haven’t seen it I recommend it it’s a great show
Are you Dialled, the person driving Carly and Wade to the wax town is in on it . He's the 3lrd brother if you listen to the end of it . Sorry but I like this film
The kings of reviews! I'm gonna be honest I didn't mind this film it was passable I've seen far worse for sure. However the review as always was gold and hilarious 👊.
I have this movie on DVD and I think it's a great horror movie and the building wax museum looks cool it must of took the set designers a long time to built it .
The original and Vincent Price remake are the BEST! I highly recommend both versions! But this remake is awful. I guess the only good thing I can say is, at least it doesn't copy and paste the original. At least this remake takes it's own direction of story telling. But much like the 2006 Black Christmas remake, House of Wax changes a bit too much. Like 98% of this movie is just an original film. In fact, it could have worked as it's own stand alone movie. But after watching this review, even it was it's own movie, the plot and the characters don't work. I really didn't care about any of the characters or story. The movie is "passable" I guess. But I would ignore it. Again, go watch the original and Vincent Price remake! You won't regret it! Great review boys! KEEP IT UP!!!
Biggest failure of this movie for me was them not waxing Paris Hilton, which is funny considering they made a model of her for her death scene. In general too few of the teens end up out on display so the wax horror premise ends up very underutilized.
I really need to sign up for you patreon you always provide me with great free entertainment, first watched your Falling down review amazing film, i think I did want you to watch this one because i knew it would annoy you both 😂 i want to see some 90s Jim Carrey films reviewed how much do i have to donate? 🤣
I absolutely love your guys horror reviews. I would love to hear your guys thoughts on David Emge's passing, knowing how big of a Romero fan you guys are.
Lots of nods to the OG House of Wax starring Vince Prince in this one. I remember seeing the original when I was a kid. The 2005 version was a decent time waster. The kids were so annoying you kinda wanna root for the brothers 😂
i don't mind remakes of old movies that bring it either into modern times or fixes some of the lackings of the prior's limitations (fx / story / acting). A poor remake is not worth it to me, maybe a so bad its good for other folks. Some of my favorite films are in the vein of a remake because we don't always know where the inspiration actually came from, at least not back then
So I kind of dont know how to feel about the cover art of house of wax, I genuinely love dove on Paris Hilton, but you know there is a probability of reality that is problematic in a 4d scale of time. Like they probably had to deal with reality supression and the actuality of people's obsessions and or comprehension of mental screen shots and printout screenshots, unknown, made into by cardboard cutout people. The psychological level of television, people and the internet at the time on a psychological level I cannot myself comprehend. It also points put in my mind somehow the drive behind the gauzy projective consciousness they'd also dealt with on a time emotional scale. Ie for example it connects to the horrors of hotel sadness and pyschosisism of people in a room with 4 walls for rent, aswell the Las Vegas incident from a few years ago and another scape of time management in regards to that same state of mind body and actions taken, known & unknown. It connects to the idea did the, does the, I know you all do through a source of sources, record and videotape people from behind the sceen of rocky raccoons. The clicking of the soda machines and the timescale of ice machines dropping in and down new information. It's also covers representations of media and the encapsulative interconnection of people or opinions about people to witch all are a shell of a deeper warmth of character inside ones heart and intentions. Interactivity amongst it all from a viewing experience and the interactive forces of, of and onto another is just odd to me sometimes.
Nah, that's a very myopic way to look at it. They're both tools for filmmaking that can be used well or used terribly. There's plenty of movies with awful practical effects, we just tend to celebrate the ones like The Thing that are top tier and forget how bad 75% of them are. I can cherry pick amazing examples of CGI that show the medium very much has it's place in movies too, like Gollum in LOTR, Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame, Rocket Raccoon in every MCU movie, the 2011-2017 Planet Of The Apes Trilogy, Starship Troopers, Blade Runner 2049, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Avatar 1 & 2, Hollow Man, Life of Pi, Dune, Ex Machina, Inception, The Matrix, Pirates Of The Carribean 2's Davy Jones. The list goes on and on.
@@stevenfraser81 I do agree with you some of my favourite movies have lots of cgi like deep impact and interstellar, but I think when it comes to horror movies, having the practical effect for the gore/kills is always 100% times better and more believable. Jurassic Park used both practical and cgi, and although the cgi at the time was phenomenal, I always prefer the practical scenes. Like when they stumble across the poorly Dino that's dying. I agree with you though, used properly either/or are just as good 👍
Honestly there are good ideas in this movie, and not a bad production, but the characters and plot are underdeveloped and wasted, this concept could work well but they went for something super basic and generic
This was the horror movie that got me over my fear of horror as a preteen. Sometimes bad horror movies are someone's way of getting to learn the appeal of the genre before exploring better films and media.
Original is a classic love Vincent Price. Like MOST (read 90%) reboot's remake's remasters..... this is a pretty looking turd. No heart, No story, No acting. Thank you both for taking a bullet by watch this crap and sending out a bat signal warning this is dog^hit
Did we watch the same review? Because Gary recommended it and said that it was decent once they hit the town after a boring first act and set up that drags.
Love this movie, but so many impracticalities, for one it's in the south the least ideal climate for wax to stay solid. Second, how did they get that much wax. it would be in the tons and no way one person could complete all that in their lifetime.
Why do films have to be 1:30? I feel like 90% could be an hour or less and be much much better for it. A lot of ideas would work as short films but are spread so thin by needing to be 1:30. Don't get me started on a 3 hour Aquaman movie or something like that. No reason in the world to do that.
Honestly an hour and 30 min film feels short and sweet now after so many aiming hard to be nearly 3 hours long, its not always needed and often overhyped
I just watched a terrible Joe Dante movie last night. It's called The second American Revolution. Released in 1997, stellar cast...It was pretty bad though. However, given what is currently happening in the US with TEXAS and the issues with illegals and the apparent intentional degradation by the current political regime...It may very well be prescient. Free on YT.
Gary: "Paris getting the shaft."

One of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. ❤
I like it too.
An underrated movie but I agree it could have been better.
The production design for this movie is amazing.
I remember renting this back when it came out from my local Blockbuster and hating it, then watching the Vincent Price one and from there started my love of Vincent Price. So something good came out of it.
I loved all those Vincent Price movies!

Think... if they made all the wax needed for this house and the mannequins _of human fat._ Would be a better, more gruesome idea.
I think you guys are being a little too hard on this movie. I think its aged well compared to other remakes that came out during that era. Banger of a soundtrack. Very nostalgic for me

Sorry not sorry, but this is one of my favorite horror movies. It’s just so stupid and silly and fun.
It's OTSR time! Have a good one, Shelfers! 👊👊👊
I actually like this film, love the OG but this is fun . It's great that Paris Hilton thought fu asses and got the promotion team to say come watch Paris die. I thought she acted quite well especially her chase scene 😊💜🐾
It's a good flick man😊
I’ll defend this movie, it’s by no means perfect but it’s very much trying
This is another one of those slick early 2000’s horror films I have watched but cannot remember a single thing that happens in it.
When the wax melts, revealing the corpses underneath, that haunted me for a while.
Underrated. That Supernatural episode with Paris Hilton and Gandhi is hilarious.
they mention this movie
A 13 ghosts would be an interesting review, the ghosts back stories a really cool
I think this is a pretty good slasher film, one of the better remakes i would say
This is my guilty pleasure movie Ian & Gary are right with all the points they make here.... but i still enjoy it every time i watch it .. thanks for reviewing
They come across as nitpicky…. Yes the first half is dull and uninteresting….
I already knew what the post credits scene would be before I even clicked the video. 😆

I haven't watched this film as it never appealed to me, maybe i'll see it on tv late one night and give it a watch.
Entertaining review once again guys, you're really hitting your stride now, good stuff.

A lot of people think this film is a crap. Partially,it is,but the last 20 minutes and the entire final sequence is absolutely mind-blowing!
Why review it if you hate it? I think it’s a fun watch. There’s an entire house made of wax for fucks sake.
The nicest thing I can say about this movie is that Jared Padalecki went on to bigger and better things 4 months later starring as Sam Winchester in supernatural if any of you haven’t seen it I recommend it it’s a great show

Thank God for this channel. I was about to give up on this week… like… COMPLETELY.
(And it’s only Thursday.)
I really like this movie though. And i used to watch the good life as a young teen it was funny she’s awful at acting though 😂😂
Odd how I was thinking of this film a couple of days ago when I saw an Italian horror flick called Wax Mask (1997).
I actually mind this movie, just hearing you two bash movies I either like or not mind is hilarious 😂
Chad Michael Murray was at peak hotness in this film. 😮 thats my only commentary on this film.
Are you Dialled, the person driving Carly and Wade to the wax town is in on it . He's the 3lrd brother if you listen to the end of it . Sorry but I like this film
i like the film, but except for the impracticalities. Wax could not stay in solid form in the south. And where did they get all that wax from.
Kudos for the Undertaker T-shirt 👍🏽
