Just got my GX4 back..In twelve days..Quite impressive. Taurus replaced the barrel...Ammo was hanging up. Have not gone to the range to test it but doing a dry run all seems perfect. By the way, you do a great job in your reviews, Sir.

Thanks for good review, Sir. Just sent my GX4 back with the same problem. Also, included the problem of the pistol slide not engaging fully after putting a a fully loaded magazine. Slide would go forward but stopped @ 2" short of barrel end.

None of my guns allow me to lock the slide without the mag in. The top of the mag pushes the slide release up so it can lock into place without it the slide release stays home. Both my Canik and XDM Elite does that.

If you remove the mag and push the slide catch up as you pull the slide back it will hold the slide open on any handgun. Most have to have the slide help back to rotate or place lock lever back in place after reassembling.

When the mag is put, you have to manually push the slide stop/release up into place to lock back the slide. If that doesn't work, then there is a problem. You may have already tried that.

Had this problem today. Took mine (GX4 toro brand new) to the range for the first time. Shot about 250 rounds and by the end of the session a couple times i got to my last round and the slide didnt lock back. Also just noting for readers, also had the commin problem of after about 50 rounds my front sight came loose, had to tighten it back down before i continued, and when i switched from 124 to 115 grain ammo, i started getting different sporadic failures. Misfires, failure to feed, slide lock failure. Also only had these problems with the factory 13rd mag. Had no problem with the first 150 rounds of 124gr which is what is suggested in the manual so i will do more testing, not sure yet if it was an ammo issue or mag issue.

Hello Good morning, I have the same issue with my GX4, requested warranty and they (Taurus) sent the authorization, But I called Fedex and UPS trying to ship the gun to TAURUS and they don't let me because I do not have an FFL license, so I am on a dead end, My question to you is, how did you ship yours to Taurus what you are supposed to do?? any help is welcome. Thanks

Yes call customer service and have them email you a shipping label. And when you go to fedex request a small box with standard packing and fragile packing. They can’t pack your gun or even see it they told me but they put tape on the box after I packed it myself.

I have several high end pistols and the slide lock only engages when an empty mag is inserted! I own a GX4 and operates the exact same way! If I pull the mag and slip my thumb under the slide lock button and push up as I pull back on the slide it locks back fine just like my other pistols lol ! Maybe you need some thumb strength exercises buddy ! Another problem I’ve seen is when a full mag is inserted and slammed in the slide goes forward and injects a round. How is that a problem lol ? In a fire fight I want that ! However I don’t slam my mags in but good to know if I need to!

The taurus gx4 is not designed to hold the slide back unless you engage the slide stop/ release. You have to pull the slide back and push up on the slide stop. Then it will hold the slide back.

    • @ironhorse127

Check the manual. Without the magazine, push upward on the slide catch. To release pull downward on the slide catch....it's small but it works. Don't just push into the frame of the pistol, thinking it's going to hold (the slide back).

Slide stop cut on the slide is angled and the empty mag keeps it in plate but once moved it slides forward

  • @DJ-un4oh

It’s not normal. You’re supposed to be able to lock the slide back for many reasons. Safety checks. Cleaning. What if you get a shell casing wedged in the chamber? Obviously you did the right thing to send it in. Let us know if Taurus took care of you.
I want to add, my slide stop is very sensitive. The slightest touch and the slide slams forward. It’s always bothered me. Thanks.

You're correct that this is an issue. My GX4 locks back fine w/o a mag.
A surprising number of commenters are claiming this is normal for handguns. It's not.
I have owned, or had significant time with Smith and Wessons, CZ's, Kimbers, Sigs, Berettas, Springfields, KelTecs, Ruger's, Glocks and Caniks all have locked back without a magazine without fail.
Heck even my FN baby Browning from 1968 locks back.

  • @gcmotorman6379

It's not a slide release and you have been using it as one. If you look how thin the material is on the Taurus slide lock (not slide release) it is very thin. Expect problems.

Lift up on the slide lock dude when racking back when you don't have a magazine in otherwise...ya it won't lock back. Just spend a lot of time messing around with the controls WITHOUT ammo present, buying some snap caps instead to function as bullets. You'll figure it all out. I'd recommend not jumping to conclusions, especially with Taurus CS bc you'll never see your gun back in a timely manner.
Magazines have a follower, which functions you should Google. Please, all gun owners, read the manuals and familiarize yourself with your firearm intimately. It'll save your life, and more importantly, mine too.
I'm being rude, but come on man, this is very basic stuff 🙄 maybe consider taking a class. These things can kill you. It's better to know how they function.

The slide lock is supposed to act as such. Lock the slide back when initiated, regardless of the firearms condition. You don’t sound mean, you sound like an an ass. If you’ve even read the GX4’s manual you would know this is an malfunction of the slide release. Not normal operation. Any other striker fired handgun should also lock the slide to the rear with a loaded mag but empty chamber/bore, an empty mag which is than assisted by the. And without the magazine inserted. The slide stop should not collapse when initiated regardless of the handguns condition. You are inept and think you know more than you actually do if you refute this claim. Take any accurately operating firearm and take the magazine out, clear the chamber & lock the slide to the rear. It should an will stay and will not release until initiated.
He clearly was lifting up and applying pressure to the slide lock. It is not operating correctly. Simple as that

  • @davevabch
    @davevabch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

This is a slide Catch or lock, IT IS NOT a slide release. You should have read the manual. Most guns are not designed to use the slide lock as a release. Some firearms do, and the manual will tell you to like the Kahr's, Beretta's and others. I never use a slide lock as a release. Yes, I have two GX4's and they do release, but still do not use them that way, no sense in doing this. Seriously, read the manual before operating any gun. And you got your gun back in 10days? And complaining?
