It is interesting to hear about how the different Amish groups will use modern devices and technologies to one degree or another and the different ways that the groups will not use modern stuff.
Hi I’ve just come across your page, I have a question please. How long can the last way for power to run the well pump last, on gas, diesel or propane? You have to turn off and restart at each flush or faucet used for kitchen or to shower. We are currently with no water due to wells water level. Well is dug to 525 ft but now a stronger pump and longer hose and electrical is needed. Ironic enough it is a Amish couple that bought this house we live and the field and houses on other side of the field. It’s rough right now for us but to them this is not a big deal. I’m praying we get enough water to just flush again with the current pump till a new can be put it and that even if they do it. I found your video very interesting and so fitting right now. I subscribed and will be checking out your other videos.
That is a deep well. Our personal well is 62 feet deep. The pump for us is electric and we use a pressure tank. The tank had to be replaced after just 10 years as we have hard water. As far as the pump...ours is still going strong. From what I have read they can last 15 to 25 years. It really depends on how hard it has to work...yours most likely is working harder than mine. We did buy a pricy hand pump as a back up just in case our electric goes out. Solar panels are on our never ending list. Is there a way for you to store water for times like this? It is all worth it...do as much as you can to become self-sufficient. You won't regret it.
They don't. In our county the wells are inspected by the county to make sure they are safe to drink from. We have one on our own property and we do not filter it eithere.
Wow, they're pretty similar with Baduy People & Samin people in Java, Indonesia. They're living surounded by modern world but refusing to use modern technologies, even wearing sandals is forbidden while walking on the city road to selling wild fresh honey from the forest. The only thing that they're still not refuse from modern world is money.
Hi. I don’t mean to sound ignorant but I was recently an Amish town and I stop by to get a cup of coffee from one of their stores. My stomach has not felt the same sense. It got me thinking about their water. I know that they have a lot of contamination issues. How do we know the grade of the water and their filtration system? Did they get the water they gave me the coffee with from underground? How clean are their wells? Please advise. Thank you
This is a GREAT question. We also have a well at our house and the county does not allow a well to be dug without a permit. Once the well is dug they come out and test your water. They are supposed to come out routinely and as a well owner we pour bleach in the well once a year and run it through the system. i would think that they would have Health department regulations on top of what a homeowner would be required to follow.
Since they have different churches, how is the church leader (bishop?) chosen? Is the church male oriented? Are there male and female roles? How do they handle LGBTQ issues? Thanks for your insights.
The bishop is actually voted in by the leaders of the church. The bishop doesn't go to school to train. The church meetings ar are outlined and have been for years so when the "new" bishop steps in he has to follow the serman or outline. Probably pretty scarey if you aren't the type of person that likes to lead. They accept the position and see it as God's will. Woman do not hold leader ship postions in the church per se. LGBTQ was not something my friend knew about so I left it alone...I'm sure their are churches where this may come up but has not in this particular group. Hope I answered all of your questions!
My friend does not dehydrate food and wasn't sure about process. I did find an article on this which shares 6 different ways to dehydrate food without electricity...doesn't mean other Amish don't dehydrate food...homesteadsurvivalsite.com/dehydrate-food-without-electricity/
Thank you for watching! Please ask questions in the comments and I'm happy to "find" the answers!
Thanks for the helpful info.
You are very welcome!
Happy Belated Birthday 🎉
Thank you!
I remember when I was real little on my grandparents had a windmill with a large reserve tank made out of concrete
I've seen that...I like the idea of using gravity as well...

Nino, thank you so much for sharing. This was very interesting. I admire people that can keep things simple.

They've so very interesting videos how do they build a dehydrator to dehydrate food for preservation because they don't use electric?

Water yearly lab tested for health reasons?
In our county you have to have it tested before you put one in and then periodically. We have a well on our property
