This is so interesting because I never considered the case like in your Bottega example that the original has no branding but neither does the identical dupe. Definitely a thin line there. I also agree with what you said--having a fake and knowing it but pretending it's real is problematic. I generally don't think dupes are a problem, I think they're great for trying out trendy pieces or new styles before you spend the money on the real thing. A lot of fashion houses "take inspiration" from each other, but what I think is over the line is when brands constantly copy certain styles down to a T without any originality.
This 🙌🙌🙌 I agree with every single word! I think it’s safe to assume that when something is trending, all fashion houses and then high street brands will offer their versions of it, which is totally okay, and, also, gives the customer a bigger choice - they may not like the Chanel ballerinas but may love the Dior ballerinas, you know? All we ask is for them not to be identical 😩
This is a great topic! The line is clearly drawn for me when a look-alike has a logo or brand name on it-in that case, absolutely no way is it in my collection. The example of the Andiamo is a good one. Though the original doesn’t have a huge logo, I assume it does say “Bottega Venetta” somewhere on the inside. As long as the look alikes do not, it’s fine IMO. I can totally understand why you would not buy a bag like this, however. I think the line with what we are comfortable with is different for everyone, and that is completely fine!!❤
Thank you so much! ❤️ And oh yes, the brand names on the lookalike bags are always horrible and they come up with the most ridiculous names like Prada becomes something crazy like PADRE 🤣
I think the word dupe has a different meaning from a copyright/legal perspective. According to my understanding, even if the bag is identical, as long as there’s no logo or branding, It is not trying to deceive anyone that it is the real thing. And that’s because once an item is dissociated from a certain elevated brand, it cannot command the same price tag or status. I am not familiar with bottega bags, but I assume there is branding on the inside of the bag?❤
I agree with you that if this makes you happy you should buy it. Everyone has their thing that they spend money on. I do like a good quality leather bag, and I do have some real purses and I have some dupes.
Exactly! And this mindset can be applied to everything, like to me this also applies with jewelry, because I enjoy gold jewelry (designer or not) and also costume jewelry (again, designer or not) 😍 There’s no need to put ourselves in just one box 🥰
My feelings are if you buy a fake/dupe for £19.99 - you have got a bargain bag and that's it, you have to work with your budget. But if you buy a designer/luxury bag then a whole load of other emotions come with it, you may have saved for a long time to get it, you would have had wonderful luxurious shopping experience with a special SA, you will have had a spine tingling time unboxing your gorgeous bag, you may have the satisfaction that your bag will last many years and could pass it on to the next generation.

Interesting! Thank you for watching, Dani ❤️🥰
I had no idea about the definition of dupe to be honest. That was interesting.
Yeah The Cambridge Dictionary isn’t messing around 😅

I completely agree - for me, almost every single luxury item comes with a story, which makes it even more special to have 🤍
