In each and every religion there are good things written as well, take rhe good out of it, and don't follow every word literally. But as a rule it’s completely unacceptable among Hindus. A cousin is considered as a brother or sister among Hindus, precisely for this reason, since you would not marry your own brother or sister.

India is vast country with each region having a subtle change in the traditions😊😊
Hindus also have had this system. Haven't u heard of a guy marrying his mama ki ladki. One of my friends has married his mama's daughter . Some even marry their bua's daughter .also some girls in the south marry their mother's brother too if he is the same age group. Atleast in maharashtra and South India this practice is still existing

Tarek ji, you have always mentioned Punjab and Mahabharata in one breath. Here, let me treat you and Arzoo ji to a story from the Mahabharata about River Beas and River Sutlej; they were respectively named Vipasha and Shatadru in the Vedic era. Rishi Vashistha(one of the most exalted Rishis of Ancient India) after the death of all his (hundred) sons had been overwhelmed with grief. He had been relentlessly attempting suicide. In two of his attempts he resorted to drowning himself: 1. He bound himself with multiple cords and threw himself into a mighty river. Miraculously, he was washed ashore and the violent river current severed the binds. Thus, the river was named Vipasha(the cord breaker). Pash means rope in Sanskrit. Weapons used to bind others is often referred to as a Pash. Eg: Nagpash(the binding rope of the Nagas), Varunpash(the binding rope of Varuna Deva), Yampash(the binding rope of Yama Deva), etc. 2. Rishi Vashista began wandering until he reached a river called Haimvati(one that flows from Himavat or Himalaya) which was full of crocodiles. He jumped into it and the river scattered in a hundred directions leaving him on a piece of a dry land. Thus the river was named Shatadru(Shata meaning hundred). P. S. Rishi Vashishta was the Guru of Lord Rama and his brothers. He came out of his suicidal phase when he found out that his eldest son's wife was pregnant. This child grew up to be Rishi Parashara the father of MahaRishi Veda Vyasa(who dictated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha).

In Hinduism Maternal uncle( Mama) daughter marriage used to take place Real sister's son or vice versa. But this tradition is very sporadic Today.The % was very thin when use to happen. We as a hindu community is very modern and change with the times but our traditions and culture remains with us throughout life🙏

This practice is in decline but socially acceptable in some sections of hindus, Christians, Muslims of south India. I have Christian friend married to buaa's son and a tamil hindu friend having cousin married to Mama. So I know first hand. In north india its not like this. South indians don't have gotra systems in all hindu sections.

Epic Ramayana and Mahabharat are made in TV serials. Infact dialogs of Mahabharat made 1988 where script were written by veteran Rahi Masoom Raza and star cast of Arjun was played by Muslim and the justice they gave...
Ramayan and Mahabharat are itihaas (as it happened). Follow up interviews with Nilesh Oak (1-1.5 hrs minimum), Prof. Subhash Kak, Raj Vedam, Dr. CK Raju....then only you will begin to have some comprehension of Bhartiya gyaan, vigyaan, dharma...

Tarek ji, you have always mentioned Punjab and Mahabharata in one breath. Here, let me treat you and Arzoo ji to a story from the Mahabharata about River Beas and River Sutlej; they were respectively named Vipasha and Shatadru in the Vedic era.
Rishi Vashistha(one of the most exalted Rishis of Ancient India) after the death of all his (hundred) sons had been overwhelmed with grief. He had been relentlessly attempting suicide. In two of his attempts he resorted to drowning himself:
1. He bound himself with multiple cords and threw himself into a mighty river. Miraculously, he was washed ashore and the violent river current severed the binds. Thus, the river was named Vipasha(the cord breaker). Pash means rope in Sanskrit. Weapons used to bind others is often referred to as a Pash. Eg: Nagpash(the binding rope of the Nagas), Varunpash(the binding rope of Varuna Deva), Yampash(the binding rope of Yama Deva), etc.
2. Rishi Vashista began wandering until he reached a river called Haimvati(one that flows from Himavat or Himalaya) which was full of crocodiles. He jumped into it and the river scattered in a hundred directions leaving him on a piece of a dry land. Thus the river was named Shatadru(Shata meaning hundred).
P. S. Rishi Vashishta was the Guru of Lord Rama and his brothers. He came out of his suicidal phase when he found out that his eldest son's wife was pregnant. This child grew up to be Rishi Parashara the father of MahaRishi Veda Vyasa(who dictated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha).

In Hinduism Maternal uncle( Mama) daughter marriage used to take place Real sister's son or vice versa. But this tradition is very sporadic Today.The % was very thin when use to happen. We as a hindu community is very modern and change with the times but our traditions and culture remains with us throughout life🙏

This practice is in decline but socially acceptable in some sections of hindus, Christians, Muslims of south India. I have Christian friend married to buaa's son and a tamil hindu friend having cousin married to Mama. So I know first hand. In north india its not like this. South indians don't have gotra systems in all hindu sections.

For your information Arzooji, Hindu tradition is that for past 7 generations there should not have been a blood relation. Hindus have a " Gotra" system which defines this and it is easy to establish that how many generations ago there was a blood relation.
