Hard-Fighting Devon Smoothhounds

After several cancelled trips my friends from Baywater Anglers and I took to the water, on the African Queen, after some of our favourite sporting fish - smoothhounds!

I saw the photo Angela. Well done. It was good to hear that it fought well too. Often a blue will do one very long run and then come in quite tamely. I am glad that your's put up such a great scrap. As for the smoothhound, the Veritas, 7 grm to 21 gram, lure rod let the fish really show what it was capable of. The biggest I had - 9 lbs 1 oz - fought even harder.
What was interesting was that, with such light braid, I was able to hold bottom with a 5 oz lead while others were using half a pound or more. It made for an exciting fight.

Thank you both. I am much better than I was. Hand mostly healed but very lucky to have lots of bookings coming in. A nice way to have your time off limited! We will get that trip in though Sam. I have had a few thoughts about that though we could do with less spider crabs around!
