    Great bed buddy, Uncle synchro is so cool man love what he's doing, takes a special person to have the patience and resilience to deal with these things, so many start these kind of projects with older VW platforms and struggle, partly due to the intricacies of the engineering which seems sound but you know the Germans they put stuff together it's hard to work on man, but nothing cooler than these really even to this day, I had a 1970 westie with a hot rod motor and some sensible other upgrades, back when it was cheap doing the air cool thing. Boy times have changed. Thumbs up bro!

    Next time you shoot outdoors have your back to the sun. That will prevent the flares we see. Kids that little 2.5L Subie is a $20k install. If you get into Westy's be prepared to write a lot of checks. I have an '88 2.1L with 354k on the chassis and it is mechanically sound, and paid for.

    Was it difficult to get a 2011 Subaru engine to run in the Vanagon?
    Some forums suggest pre 2004 only to avoid complex electronics requirements.

    can that be registered in CA? Thought subaru conversions were not permitted. otherwise, i'd love to buy that!

      it can still be registered in california, you just need to jump through a few hoops and give the state more money

      @@flossymissiles if your uncle sells these let me know. i'm a single foster mom looking for a reliable camper to take the kids out camping. i'm currently looking at old defender 110 conversions, (unicorns) jeep camper tops, etc but would love a reliable and capable VW.

    Hey, got a question if you can address to your uncle on my behalf........
    The Syncro at 6:56 I have one like that. However it has a divider behind the front seats. There's a steel panel about half way up separating the driver's cabin from the rest of the van.
    I've been thinking of removing it but some find that it's structural and could reduce damage from a side impact.
    What does his think?

      Probably. These T3 were definitely better built than T2, T1 - for crash worthiness. Guy told me in his T1, the bulkhead was cut, he welded in a new one and said it made a noticeable improvement. VW might have done gussets or other steps to compensate.

      I've seen Go Westy sell these, 15" and 16". I run MB rims on mine. T3 Technique provided the hardware.
