This song has so much to unpack!! I think it's my favourite Ren song, it's so devastating in the lyrics (he feels like he's dying and just want a new start, a new genesis). "Noah was late for the ark" - is a line that stuck with me and I pondered it for a long time. The flood had to happen to renew everything, what if Noah had been late for his own salvation... Ren said something about how we humans never learn from history, we go on ignorantly and bring "the flood" upon ourselves and don't realize our own salvation until it's too late...

Percussive. That's the word I was trying to think of when I was listening to this. You're right!
That's something I've noticed about Ren. When he's singing it's about the melody and when he's rapping it's usually percussive and sometimes melody. I could pick up my drumsticks and play to his rap. Not something common to rap, just to Ren!

I am late to see this cause I’ve been crazzzy busy. Wow! I didn’t realize you had not done this yet. Love your EAR for detail. Genesis is one of the first songs that made me jump down the rabbit hole. I never listened to rap much and Ren changed that for me. I am going to Brighton next week and the off to the Secret Garden Party to see Ren and his pals perform! I can’t believe it! So excited! I wish you and Nancy could go with me! 💔❤️🩹❤️
OMG! I wish we could too!!!! I've done so many Ren songs (more than any other artist, truthfully) that I sometimes forget what I've done. Every time I do one of his songs, I add it to my playlist so I can enjoy it over and over, but I keep hitting repeat after I listen to Down on The Beat that I never get through the whole list 🤣. In all the times I have watched this video I had not noticed the upside down house. There are several of the busking videos I have watched where it was right there in the background.
We are so captivated by Ren that we're not taking in the surroundings! I've learned to be much more observant than I have ever been when watching videos especially certain artists like Ren. I so want to go visit that house!!!! ❤️

It took me a while to realize about the Connery licence because he offed himself I was thinking that Connery didn't do that in real life. Then I realized what he meant 😅
Right! I realized he almost had that stance from the opening scene from a 007 film through the barrel of the gun. Interesting to me that a guy his age references the very first Bond. May have to do with the rhyme scheme or the association with Bond that Connery's name has. Craig or Bronson wouldn't have worked, I think. Thank you, buddy!
I've seen a lot of people relate this line to feeling $u!cidal, but I've always taken it a different way. He says "I have been ill in myself" ... "license for killing myself," so I always took that as relating to his disease. His illness is autoimmunity, in which your own body attacks itself. Perhaps, that's just the interpretation I relate to personally, but to me it fits the rest of the lyrics better.
