+Kevin Baker I wish that their coach was our coach (coming from a Boston fan). But, all those guys: Parker, Ginobili, Duncan, etc. are always classy.

TD big braining shaq into foul trouble on his pump fakes and up and unders....as kobe single handedly took that team behind the woodshed....esp that 16-1 post season. I mean i lacked respect for the kings...but had revere for the spurs as the 99 champs and legit bigs and action in the 1/2 court. But damn That game where he killed the offensive glass and dunked over robinson....had him SHOOK like MJ ptsd SHOOK More importantly at 22 years old in 01....just insane. Im pretty sure he also dunked on duncan that game and multiple times on THEM throughout those 4 games. his blow bys in the 01 playoffs were next level 06 finals wade esque.

Kobe really matured as his career went along. He used to be very cocky, but as time went by his confidence was still high but he knew how to control it and not wear it on his sleeve like he did when he was younger. It's very telling in this video when he salutes the Spurs crowd.

I'm a 51 year old Spurs fan so this rivalry goes back beyond Kobe and Shaq, from Magic and Kareem years in the 80s where we never could get over the hump when we met but the battles were just as fierce. Then the 90s and 2000s then Shaq and Kobe. Those memories of the Lakers and Spurs are some 40 plus years that I hold with mad respect to this Laker organization. When I saw this I knew our Spurs were giving mad love to Kobe because those battles are what made this rivalry special. And every time we faced these Lakers we knew it was a war with them every time we played no matter what part of the season. Obviously was best come playoff time. In a way I wish the rivalry with Kobe, we could have met in the WCF which never happened in this time frame, but it don't mean the rivalry wasn't good. It was beyond great. I mean we are the team that affectionately shut the Great Western Forum down during this rivalry. But that's what made this rivalry so special because I'm alive to witness all of this.
Then Kobe which now has been gone 3 years from this earth, when he saw the tribute, he showed the same class that this man dedicated his life for for those 20 years. He was the ultimate competitor. You definitely hated him as any fan, but as a Laker fan you definitely admire him and cherish him. We miss you Kobe more than ever being a Spurs fan, and that tribute really says it all about what our rivalry was in that era.

So sad to hear. So young. He recently wrote a children's book and won an Oscar for his short film, "Dear Basketball" .We're losing too many far beyond their time. As a Spurs fan, he gave us many heart stopping memorable performances. We are all saddened to see this tragedy.
Not only was he a fantastic basketball player but he was a young father to 4 daughters, son, brother, husband, and philanthropist who gave to so many charities. I could see it on Tim Duncan's face at the Spurs game being televised, how it hurts to hear of his passing.
Very hard to hear Gigi (Gianna Maria) passed away with her daddy. I'm sure he wrapped his arms around her to protect her even as the Angels came for them.
My thoughts and prayers go to his parents who have to go through the pain of burying their son, his sisters, to his wife, and daughters.
No words can comfort someone mourning a loss of life. Every moment is precious. Tomorrow isn't promised. As someone still mourning my brother who passed away this past year, it hurts. The pain of never seeing them, speaking to them, or hearing their voice will never ever go away.
Let the people you love and most of all love you know how much they mean to your life. Life's too short. Hold tight to one another. Sending my prayers to all affected by this tragic loss of lives.

And coaching efforts & playing efforts v kobe ive seen. For me manus greatest strength was how fearless he was and aggressive he was inside/elbow. It really made for a great matchup...since melo didnt even want to duel with kobe...for all those years it was kobe v jr smith SMH

Never hated the player or the man. Always had my respect. In fact back in like 2013 or 2014 a rumor of Kobe wanting out of LA and San Antonio being named possible trade destination got me excited at the thought of Kobe and Tim playing their final years together. Only shit talk I ever had towards this man was due to his extremely annoying fan base. RIP Kobe.

+Ruben Armendarez Why does have to be a spurs fan? Spurs made this video for Kobe and the fans are cheering for him in the arena as if it was his home court. I have been a Spurs fan for 10 years but I have so much respect for Kobe and always enjoyed watching his competitiveness. I remember how unstoppable he was especially in the 08 west finals vs SA. You can be a diehard spurs fan but also respect other players at the same time. Tim and Kobe will always been the most iconic players for their generation.

Spurs have always had a great defense. But they respect Kobe because in his prime, he was the exception to the rule. The 1 player that the SAS defense always had trouble with. If kobe had played with Pops he would've won more than 5 rings. The greatest offensive players will score even if you grab or hit them, double or triple team them (AI, Kobe, Shaq, MJ, etc.) but the so-called superstars today either flop or cry to the refs too much. If lebron and curry played in the 80's, 90's, or early 2000's they wouldn't be as successful.

As a life long Spurs fan one of my biggest regrets is not watching Kobe play. Only time i would see him was when he was playing against the Spurs. Sure do miss him on and off the court.
