What a blessing! Thank you, Ira! One feels sad that the next class will be the last. We pray you will continue with taking up some other text like Naishakarmya siddhi of Sureshavaracharya.

Vedantic scriptures are like an ocean. They are almost endless!
Therefore I recommend following five texts, the understanding of which would cover all the important points of Advaita Vedanta.
      1) Mandukya Upanishad with Gaudapadas and Shankaras commentary. (This is to understand the main philosophy and the importance of the‘method of the three states)
      2) Gita with Shankaras commentary. (This is necessary in order to know the spiritual practices, Sadhanas, needed to realize our eternal identity with the non dual Truth.
      3) Adhyasa Bhashya-Shankaras introduction to his commentary on the Brahma Sutras (this is necessary to correctly understand the nature of Ignorance in Advaita Vedanta.)
      4) The Naishkarmya Siddhi of Sureshvara. ( this is absolutely necessary to understand the claim that it is only through a correct understanding of the Vedantic Sentences, and in no other way, that one
can come to know the Self!)
      5) Upadesha Sahasri Thousand Teachings of Shankara chapter 18-. ( necessary to understand the concept of ‘Chid Abhasa’, ‘ Appearance of Consciousness in the Modifications of the Mind)
Of course this is merely my opinion and it is not to say we shouldn’t study other texts but these are the essential ones.
I don’t think I can do Naishkarmya Siddhi on TH-cam. It too long and extremely challenging and certainly not meant for a general audience . It should be studied in person with a competent teacher who has spent a long time with this brilliant gem amongst the Vedantic literature and known to so few.

@@iraschepetin2736 Thank you so much for this "sateek" response. You have distilled the essence of Advaita Vedanta in recommending these five seminal texts. There are so few genuine Advaita teacher out there; and i admire and offer my pranaams to you for tirelessly keeping the flame alive of SSS jj's teachings.
I do hope that you will consider taking up some text that you consider appropriate. People wait full week to listen to your talks.
I do have access to some 400 pages of translation of Mandukya Rahasya Vivuritti made by Brahmrishi Sri Devrao Kulkarniji. That is all that can be recovered. I will be happy to send it to you. I got it from Shri Gopinathji of Bangalore. Perhaps you will consider making it complete. That will be the 8th wonder of the spiritual world for sadhakas.

@@musafirrahgir3199 amazing! I studied with Sri Deva Rao Kulkarni for two years the Mandukya with SSS’s vivritti and have 12 fat notebooks from those classes ( resting in cardboard boxes) that I doubt I will ever do much with. I don’t think that at this time I can do much with your 400 pages. But please keep them safe, if possible, somebody, someday may have use for them.
Deva Rao was a great teacher but in the end I came to understand SSS in a radically very different way. But that is a long discussion.
Perhaps if this pandemic ever ends we’ll have a real conversation.

@@iraschepetin2736 Great! I am aware that you studied with Shri Devarao Kulkarniji during early 90s.
Perhaps you will recall, i approached you for those videos with Devaraoji which Sophia was very kind to share with me and i dubbed/digitized them and send it back to you with a digital copy of your conversations with Devarao. What a treasure.
I heard your talk at the Karayala also. Amazing stuff! Thank you so much Ira for your relentless efforts. Your work and clarity is an inspiration! Peace.

@@iraschepetin2736 Ira I have been trying to find a way to contact you, I know this is not the best avenue to do that but, I have found no other option. There is a video named "Ira Vedanta Meditation190207". It is excellent!! You mention in the video that it is only the first of more. I can't find any other segments. Please let me know if there are more and if so where I can find them. This aspect of your teachings is very meaningful to me. I hope you will continue to clarify these ideas in the future. Thank you for your contribution to Vedanta, it is unique and important.

Ira, your teachings have been very important to my understanding of Vedanta. I can imagine that you must get some negative feedback from seekers that are very emotionally invested in some neo-vedantic teaching. But, the traditional teachings are significantly different in important ways and really does explain why, although they can show the seeker the Self and help start the interests in learning the truth, the feeling does not stay on for long.
Thank you so much, I hope you will continue to create more videos.

Thank You. I hope to make a video that focuses exclusively on this subject of ‘ neo vedanta’ and ‘traditional vedanta’. (God willing)

He explains in another video on TH-cam something in this sense. When an Advaita Vedanta practicer is not connected to the Self he can pray to gods like Krishna .. something in this sense ..

    • @vertbeke7977
      @vertbeke7977 ปีที่แล้ว

With the example given above the god Krishna being an aspect of Brahman .. (and with the Self or Atman being one with Brahman ..)
