This ratio isn't really about how bad it *is* but how fast it's getting *worse*. Ontario got ourselves in this position by having a bad ratio for a long time. These number say New Brunswick is trying to catch up. ... As an Ontarian I don't recommend our strategy (ignore it, hope it goes away, build more of the same low-density houses).
The big appeal of NS is that anyone coming from a lot of places in Canada is, for a reasonable price, you can still land a single family home with a yard for kids and easily within a 40 minute commute or less. to DT Halifax if you feel that's where you need to work. I have 3 provincial parks less than 25 mins from my front door in Elmsdale. 1/4 acre for my kids to play and so do most of the neighbours. Lakes Galore! beaches and the Ocean the cul de sac across the street literally hooks up to a province wide ATV/walking trail that is maintained year round. Fresh seafood sold by fishermen from their fresh catch instead of going to the superstore. Real Estate is a bit tough right now because it is a no brainer in Canada. Mild winters for sure as well.
Immigration isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the fact is that municipal and provincial policies regarding housing do not align with the number of new immigrants. If provinces want new immigration, they should make sure their policies align and allow new housing to be built. If they decide that's too much of a hassle (as most provinces have done basically nothing since this housing crisis), then they should work with the Fed to lower immigration numbers.
They don't dare move on housing because it is one of the main drivers of our absolutely crap economy - if both real estate and oil tank Canada's economy is TOAST. Their current policies are designed to keep the real estate market inflated on purpose, if we add new housing stock NOW before the Baby Boomers and the rest of the Silent Generation die off we will have a huge problem with the value being diluted when that happens.
Immigration is a federal issue. None of the provinces or municipalities were ever consulted on the amount of immigrants the federal government decided to bring here annually.
Hello! I hope this letter finds you well May I ask one question? You shouldn't reply, only if you have wish you can. 03.01.24 we are going come to Halifax and now I search for rent an appart for my family. We are family from Ukraine (husband, 2 kids- boys, and me) just for a moment noone ready to rent out for newcomers, so I feel to rent it before we come almost impossible. The question is- may be you know someone who could be a host for us for few weeks or may be who ready rent out for newcomers? Sorry for disturbing and thank you for advance Best regards Olha
Easy to blame immigrants but even if we stopped allowing migrants to settle here tomorrow that wouldnt get anyone else into a house. We would have to hope that the real estate market changes itself into being less valuable.... anybody wanna hold their breath on that one? This problem is bigger than band aid solutions and scapegoating.
the Canadian gov has changed the required funds to come to school from 10k to 20k so much less students will be coming here. they also said they are going to be taking a closer look into how many student visa's are being given out as this is a huge loophole for out immigration. its been all over the news for the past few days, it is a huge deal @@mmimoman
I live in New Brunswick and I knew that it was bad but I didn’t know it was THAT BAD

Between the tax rate and the cost of living and poor job market I don’t see any appeal in living in Nova Scotia anymore

Immigration good. Mass immigration bad.

It’s so bad even land is going for cheap. All those hopes and dreams of retirement are all gone.

Time for a "no more immigrants" party like enough of this nonsense.
How you going to stop the migrations from Ontario? That's one of the foundational rights from the founding of Canada.
