I had a Radeon 9550 back in the 2000s. it was the only time in history I could see a 35% boost to performance from an overclock. I did not even have to adjust voltages or change the cooling.
The best example I can remember was playing world of warcraft burning crusade and getting only 28fps with decent settings on expansion zones. I then went to to ATI tool, overclocked it and received literally an extra 10 fps out of the card or a 35% increase just adjusting the clocks.
I've gone oldschool and doing a retro build from an old PC I picked up for free. It has the Radeon 9600 along with a Sempron 2200+
I increased the memory speeds and managed to get a significant improvement in the built in benchmark (ATi Tray Tools that came with the Omega drivers)
Went from 190 to 225 mhz (380 to 450 DDR), above that I would start to get artifacts.
However, adjusting the clock speeds there does nothing for performance. Even lowering does not decrease it. Just keeps acting like the stock 325. However it reports the new speeds fine.
EDIT: I found AGP drivers for my motherboard. Performance literally doubled (no exaggeration, 2x the scores). But as far as overclocking goes, same as above.
I bet there would have been more of a performance increase with a faster CPU - once the 9550 was overclocked, the CPU was pretty much pegged at 100% all the time!
Got one from my uncle’s apartment. Still with the original manual inside the box. Granted it smelled weird.
I have one of these cards to this day. Its small cooler stoped spinning and eventually my last AV8x too. I no longer have a motherboard with an AGP slot to test it. I wonder if it still works.

My setup is P4 3.2GHz, 2*512 MB DDR400, mentioned GPU above, Audigy 2 non ZS, with Audigy 2 ZS drivers from PhilsComputerLab, 3*120GB ATA133 disks, DVD-RW, hoping to add 2*Voodoo 2 12MB, and maybe replace main GPU with 9800 XT 🤭🤗😇🤗, to make a totally universal pc for Win 98 gaming era... For XP i have another machine and for DOS games also...

anyway, i have a few pcs from dos/win95 era, few from win98 era, few from xp era, few pcs was borrowed to old retro internet coffee club, where kids can enjoy goog old games from doom to quake 3 era (duke3, unreal + tournament, cs 1.5, from c&c's, war/starcraft, aoe etc etc etc) on lan... so its depends on your interests, why people collect old audio technics, why people collects old cars, why people collects old arts? ;-)

they converted it.
also virtual machine can run any OS as virtual. you can run win98 on any modern PC.
it's lots of less work, than with old trash, also takes less space and energy.
it's 2024, really. not 2004.
