After MFID leaked the information about the PS5 Pro, Digital Foundry added one extra bit of information which was that the system had more available memory for dev use vs the base PS5 so it makes sense that it actually has a couple of gigs of DDR5 thrown in to offload basic system tasks as the PS4 Pro used this same trick to great effect.
Remember, PSSR is geared towards upscaling resolution (R) not necessarily improving performance. You're paying a premium just to look at slightly prettier things on-screen with practically the same frame rates as on base PS5.
Speaking of the AI upscaling enhancements the PS5 can provide to older PS4 titles.. Some mentioned it's better to have dedicated modules for AI upscaling which I understand. However.. It doesn't take that much to force the PS5 to render the game, in this example Bloodborne at a higher resolution without the AI upscaling.. Bloodborne at 1440p for the normal PS5 in pure rasterization is something I can't imagine it not being able to do.

Look at xbox, even games from the 360 have a FPS boost and stuff like that, and for free and without doing sum weird shi. Sony on the other hand just makes a Directors cut and sell for full price or for 10€. So much AI for raytracing and things few ppl care but they cant use AI to give older games more quality and more fps. And yes ik nobody cares abt older games, but how expensive can that be? But ofc Sony rather sell a 800€ console than giving its users quality games and no remakes or remasters
Might wanna compare PS4 versions of Dead Island 2, FF7 Remake, MW3 from Base PS5 to PS5 Pro. Because all three of those games don't supersample on the Base PS5 and play only in 1080p. But yet on PS4 Pro they play at a higher resolution. I'm not talking about the PS5 version's, so don't get confused.
@ The only true 4K GPU is AD102 (4090) and it’s currently 2grand. The 3060 bros make up a majority of the card used on Steam and they definitely not playing at 4K 30. This is something you could easily verify for yourself
Bloodborne also has the issues of having post process chromatic aberration dialed to the highest I have seen in a game during average play. When you add an AI upscaling technique or even a sharpening filter after the chromatic aberration in that post-process, which is absolutely what is happening here because it would require a patch to change the pipeline... well, there's only so much you can do. I love Bloodborne so I will take what I can get but people need to better understand render pipelines before their judgements become so nihilistic.
Not worth $800+ better off investing in a higher resolution monitor or tv if visual improvement is what you’re after. Even then if you’re spending that much on a hobby I’d just get a PC.
I agree, this mostly looks like a simple sharpening filter (probably AMD Contrast Adaptive Sharpening) rather than a proper upscaler. It will certainly help games with aggressive TAA, however, I see no reason why the base PS5 shouldn't be able to do this since CAS has been a thing for ages on PC.
Just got a ps5 and was surprised to see that this wasnt already an option. Xbox one games automatically get boosted for Series X, thats how it should be for PS5
Nothing like locking a system upscaling option behind the pro when everyone knows the ps5 is good enough to upscale ps4 games. But unlike sony😂 I don't like to rip people off.
@@SpeakerBoxXx805 you do know the PS5 and series consoles being using upscaling long before pssr was announced right? It's like these consoles are using AMD technology that allow them to use edited versions of FSR or something. Not to mention we have game engines like unreal that have those upscaling options built into it plus its own TSR upscaler.
If it makes Mh Wilds run/look better, its a buy, otherwise I couldn't care less. I've got 1200 hours in Wolrd/Iceborne. £700 is a steal to make that much time look nicer.
You know the console isn’t about this ‘a bit sharper’ PS4 BC feature right?, it’s just a nice little extra Sony hasn’t bothered to mention much. Add to it the more stable fps, AI upscaling, double storage, faster and more available RAM, beefier GPU, 10% uptick in CPU and that extra 225 over the base console (plus drive of course) and suddenly its looking very reasonable.
Why would they? Their console / platform is by far the weakest offering going, now that they have put the nail in the coffin by releasing exclusives to PS, Xbox is redundant, unless you also play on PC.
Maybe it is because they are chained to the weak Xbox S (the white lowest spec model). We've been seeing problems of some Xbox ports being delayed due to MS's condition that games must run on the weak S model. Also, I would think hemorrhaging money made MS just save up for the next gen console and stop wasting more money on the current gen. In addition, someone said that PS5 Pro is a learning platform for Sony to develop PSSR. MS doesn't need a console to experiment with since they have Windows games to do that on. Just my two cents.
All the R & D budget for these half step consoles should be put into the actual new generations, this whole 'Pro initiative is detrimental to meaningful progression
3:18 thats because they dont want the attention to be on older games when their newer games are not selling as well as projected, i.e. SpiderMan 2, Concorde. etc.
My ps5 struggles with Jurassic evolution 2. Had to put the game on 30FPS. still goes slow. Can’t wait to carry on playing on the pro. I’m expecting no more lag!!!
This is honestly bs how the base ps5 doesn't get this when its strong enough can do it. this does sound interesting I still cant see a reason to drop $700 for this and at the end of thw day it's on the devs to use the power
What Sony should do is be similar to what Microsoft did with their backwards compatibility program and patch in real performance and resolution boosts without altering the actual game code. And maybe have PS3 and Vita compatibility.
Why doesn't the base PS5 have this option? It has more than enough power to do this for old ps4 games as well

@@LCJammer Dark Souls 3 runs on the exact same engine and was patched to run at 60FPS on both PS4 Pro/PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Someone online has also provided evidence that Bloodborne could run at 60FPS with the same patch applied as Dark Souls 3.
@@lutherh6090 there's' a df video talking about this "Bloodborne 60fps Hack Tested! 1080p, 900p, 720p - Can We Lock to 60fps?" this is probably where i got that the game was never meant for 60fps gameplay because it was hardcoded for 30fps. very interesting video.
So basically that's DLSS set on Low setting with different name.
100% is DLSS. I know from experience on PC.
It clearly isn't since DLSS runs exclusively on nvidia GPU's and the PS5 is using AMD hardware.
It’s not that we can’t see a difference, it’s that we can’t see a SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLAR difference…
THANK YOU!
When did everyone become so dang cheap?
Then don't buy it.. It's not for you if you can't afford it or don't want it cool.. I remember I wanted things I couldn't afford and I would look for any reason not to buy it to make myself feel better about not having it.
Why are you asking for a 700 dollar difference? It's 250 more than the digital slim, with more than double the storage.
You mean 200 dollar difference... base is 500, Pro is 700. Simple math really.
THis is what we should have got 4 years ago. Next gen should have started now. Now if you start a game it won't be ready till the PS6 comes out which is hilarious!
Interested to see the fps improvements for Elden Ring
Man... they really made a console release so damn hard to be excited about 😮💨
Yeah I know it's supposed to be low-volume but still kinda crazy
If it doesn't boost PS4 games to 60fps then I'm definitely not buying the PS5 Pro.
This will be 30 fps 😂
Bye, Felicia! 😂
How would a ps5 unlock games that are locked by developers?
@@lukesabladeAsk Microsoft. They’re about to figure it out.
@@jakedizzle ok…
Perfectly happy with my day one ps5 games look fine to me on standard ps5
So the PS5 should be able to do this but they didn't give gamers that option on purpose to sell this dead mid gen console
It's a negligible difference, but it's there. Will be more interesting to see gameplay in motion though for comparison.
This console is such a yawn to me like it really feels scammy. Anyone shelling out for this better have the TV and calibration to match, or else what are we doing?
Anyone that doesn't have a display for this console isn't the target audience. They won't get the most out of a base ps5 let alone a pro
This system needs to fail to send a message to SONY.
it's crazy how bloodborne runs better on pc now
The Pro is nothing more than a Concord tax!
😅 not true at all
Nice it comes with a bonus feature! I didn’t even know I was getting this till now.
If I have to squint my eyes to notice a difference, it ain’t worth it to upgrade 🤣
Okay now can we get FPS boost for 700 bucks this ain’t worth it
That's up to the Developers. If they don't push out a patch, games will remain at 30 fps.
@@DeadPhoenix86DP which is why FPS Boost exists to begin with on Xbox
Speaking of the AI upscaling enhancements the PS5 can provide to older PS4 titles.. Some mentioned it's better to have dedicated modules for AI upscaling which I understand.
However.. It doesn't take that much to force the PS5 to render the game, in this example Bloodborne at a higher resolution without the AI upscaling.. Bloodborne at 1440p for the normal PS5 in pure rasterization is something I can't imagine it not being able to do.
The whole ps5/ps5 pro thing has finally convinced me to switch to pc. It's sad to see Sony make so many anti-consuner choices in a row. The PS5 hardware has barely been utilized and now they're trying to force people into buying another expensive console to get features we should have on the ps5. It's been a good run, but I'll be waiting for any Sony exclusives to come to Steam now.
They've always been anti-consumer, but now theres zero reason to stay behind while everyone else eats freely. Just get ryzen 7000 series and up if you want to do rpcs3
@user-jr7bb6g9ev true, years ago they at least had to pretend to have consumers best choice in mind

Tbh, one of the biggest wins is the additional ram usage for the devs. People don’t realize how substantial 1 extra GB can go
Yeah. Also that extra 1GB on the Pro can actually wreak havoc on 12GB GPUs!
Imagine paying 800 Euro on a Zen 2 System in 2025 💀

It's pretty amazing how much you are able to yap incessantly. The information on this video can be presented in two minutes tops.
I can't wait to spend $800+tax for slightly better image quality! What a bargain!
The difference is so subtle that that could have been a contrast and sharpen slider on a tv.
While people are complaining about their backlog of games yet continue to keep buying more games or consoles. what’s the point of getting a $700 console with no disc drive and barely any difference. I’m fine with my ps5 slim.

@ 1 game out of 1,000. Sony is kinda lame for not giving its players a fps boost to 90% of the games.
Even Sony does not hype this feature, they know its just little bonus.
Who cares about ai graphics, something that gives a steady 60 fps to every ps4 game would have been praised
It would be cool to have 60 fps patch on every ps4 games(and a 4k patch so I can push my ps5 to its absolute limits)
We went from remastered games current gen games to remastered current gen consoles - thank God for OG physical media
That’s a nice feature, I have so many PS4 games, will be interesting to see it in action this Thursday.
I ended up running it on a ps4 pro with the 60fps patch. It's good there
Might wanna compare PS4 versions of Dead Island 2, FF7 Remake, MW3 from Base PS5 to PS5 Pro.
Because all three of those games don't supersample on the Base PS5 and play only in 1080p.
But yet on PS4 Pro they play at a higher resolution.
I'm not talking about the PS5 version's, so don't get confused.

Let’s go bloodbourne
I’m soooo happy I’ve sold that shit and built a pc 😊
Not worth $800+ better off investing in a higher resolution monitor or tv if visual improvement is what you’re after. Even then if you’re spending that much on a hobby I’d just get a PC.
I agree, this mostly looks like a simple sharpening filter (probably AMD Contrast Adaptive Sharpening) rather than a proper upscaler. It will certainly help games with aggressive TAA, however, I see no reason why the base PS5 shouldn't be able to do this since CAS has been a thing for ages on PC.
I just want 60fps patches for ps4 games
That's up to the devs, not Sony
To summarise in one short sentence: "This is a joke."
£700 btw lol. I've said to everyone, this console is only worth it if you dont have a ps5 already.

I've got 1200 hours in Wolrd/Iceborne. £700 is a steal to make that much time look nicer.
A bit sharper isn't worth $700. Tell Sony to uncapped the framerate for Bloodborne.

@@timsmyth7942 Well Native 4K or Higher pixels than PS4 Pro
Maybe it is because they are chained to the weak Xbox S (the white lowest spec model). We've been seeing problems of some Xbox ports being delayed due to MS's condition that games must run on the weak S model.
Also, I would think hemorrhaging money made MS just save up for the next gen console and stop wasting more money on the current gen.
In addition, someone said that PS5 Pro is a learning platform for Sony to develop PSSR. MS doesn't need a console to experiment with since they have Windows games to do that on.
Just my two cents.
@@servare2599 It has 360 back compat and can emulate various consoles including PS2. So it is far from being useless.

All the R & D budget for these half step consoles should be put into the actual new generations, this whole 'Pro initiative is detrimental to meaningful progression
No FPS boost = no upgrade
Not going to happen until Sony starts getting serious about making real substantial upgrades to the CPU like they do with the GPU.
3:18 thats because they dont want the attention to be on older games when their newer games are not selling as well as projected, i.e. SpiderMan 2, Concorde. etc.
