Glad Mae Questel was doing well with commercials in the late 70s, because Hanna/Barbera passed her over for the new Popeye cartoons around that time.

Mae lived a long full life. She not only handled Betty Boop, she also took over as a Olive Oyl in the 1940s and voiced Little Audrey.
      She was also Winky Dink.
Mae passed away at the ripe old age of 90 in 1998.

Wow...they were Skyping in the 70s! They were doing the Jetson's thing way before it was commonplace. I know they were doing it on the live news coverage and all that but to see what looks like Zoom in a normal conversation from over 40 years ago seems totally anachronistic and Twilight Zonish.

I wonder what they would think if they knew people who were not even alive then were watching their old commercials on TH-cam 😄

She was not the original betty boop. Betty Boop was black and voice by a black woman. I have no idea why she is getting credit for this, but she shouldn't

She was to the original voice of Betty Boop. She was the one mostly used to voice Betty Boop. If want a list of women that voiced Betty Boop there are a whole list on Wikipedia.

I think there is a slight misconstrue here; you may be referring to Esther Jones (Baby Esther).
She was never officially Betty Boop, but it's highly likely that her "voice" and "mannerism" inspired Betty Boop, while her physical appearance inspired from Clara Bow or Helen Kane (two white women).
Infact Helen Kane was Suing for her likeness.
It's possible Max Fleischer ripped the traits off these three women, which unfortunately is a common practice in the industry to this day (making parodies of others), but Betty Boop was never officially a black woman.
