the monkey box was left by now elderly husband Raoul. However, the rose and the ring that were already on the gravestone were left by the phantom, showing that he too has continued to love her his whole life.
Some songs help as coping mechanisms, and this song really does. It's sad, because the woman lost her father who she loved a lot, but it's hopeful as well and she wants to be strong and move on. She's acknowledging her sadness but knows she wants to keep living. This song always reminds me of my grandpa. Thank you for uploading this!
I dunno. I was a 11 year-old boy who loved it, and still love it for 8 long years. Does that seems suitable for an awnser? But i believe we are weird, somehow. In a better meaning of it.
This is her standout song. She sounded great in the movie as a whole, but this song made me cry. Her voice is near perfect, especially seeing she was 16 here.
I saw this show in New York over 20 years ago, and there was most definitely no children by the phantom in the performance I saw. This movie was a pretty faithful adaptation of the broadway musical to my recollection.
I saw this live in Toronto when I was 12 years old and it was one of the most exhilerating moments of my entire life. Completely filled with amazement, still does it to me everytime I watch it.
So glad to be a happy "stupid" "dumb" "ignorant" movie buff with this timeless film that all can cherish and enjoy whenever we want without being biased by Broadway and theatre and it's 100+ versions of the original musical Emmy and Gerard are our Christine and Phantom... deal with it!
I watched this movie for the first time last night, i cried a little then afterwards i find out my best friend has fallen in love with my boyfriend... so now i keep listening to these songs over and over... especially all i ask of you...
emmy really sang this beautifully whoever's her voice coach needa pat themselves on the back cuz this performance is a marvel she really hit every note
this is the song that drew me to "the phantom of the opera." i first heard it from that girl in "britain's got talent" several years ago. i didn't pay much attention to this musical before that. i always thought it's way too heavy and mature for my taste like all broadway musicals are. and it's most likely unrelatable to a teenager anyway. but this song just blew me away. and of course, credits to hollie steel who made a remarkable rendition of this piece on BGT.
Phantom lover "newbie" here.. after watching it last week at the theatre I have become an avid fan. This is my favorite song and I found it really moving.. Still trying to work out the end though? Was it the Phantom that bought the monkey box in the auction and placed it on Christines grave?
I love how this song both can be related to the father and the phantom. I know she is singing it to her father, but it could just aswell be about how she miss the Phantom as he was before Raoul was there.
I'd like to posit the idea of liking Emmy Rossum just as much as Sierra Boggess in the role and as singers just as much as one another. I'd also like to say that - in either case - my favourite Christine is Sofia Escobar anyway. Liking the preponderance of Doctor Who fans on here too :)
OMG My friend told me about those......its like slenderman, only moving when no one see's and kills you. God super creepy! But besides that this song and video is great! Love Emmy's inoccent act as Christine.
I'm sorry but I think Emmy Rossum did a better job at this song than Sarah Brightman. Don'tget me wrong Sarah Brightman is a FANTASTIC singer but she didn't quite hit the target as well as Emmy,
It's a Doctor Who reference pertaining to the statues. In the show, angel statues known as Weeping Angels feed off of energy they get by sending you back in time, but they can't move unless you're not looking. If you even blink you could be caught by them.
Holy crap, you made this depressingly sweet clip extremely nightmarish! I'll never be able to look at it the same way again. That episode gave me legit nightmares... *shudder*
Christine, you are in more danger than you can imagine. I know you're singing, and I don't want to interrupt the beauty of the song, but you're surrounded by Weeping Angels. You need to get the crap out of there. It's a good thing Raoul is on his way, or you might not make it out of this scene alive, and the rest of the movie is so good. I mean, the white horse is fast, but you'll have to ride backwards, m'dear. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink. Good luck, Christine!
I agree, Emmy is sweet, but her voice is not enough for Christine. I love Sierra Boggess, I think she's my favourite Christine and Ramin Karimloo is amazing as the Phantom. I like Rebecca Caine too. The 25th anniversary is fantasric! I really like her as Fantine too, I listened to some clips on youtube and she's absolutely great :)
Near the very end, her "S" on the word say "say" both times, reeeeally grates on me. It's like there's a slight "R" in front of it or something. Really picky critique, I know, I love the rest of it.
Emmy Rossum is soooo beautiful. I mean...she captures so much emotion in her face, and when she sings it's just like arrghhhhhhhhh so beautiful. And when she sings from 2:33 onward I get constant chills. She was 16 years old when she got cast. That's incredible for a 16 year old, or any age for that matter!
In my personal opinion, I like this version of the song better than Sierra's. Sierra has a lovely voice and power when she sings, but I felt Emmy's was more personal. It sounded more to me like a daughter mourning over her father whom she loved dearly. The gentleness, the sweetness, the innocence, the desperation all seem more real to me. Sierra's felt more like a huge show, although it was done well. But then again, Sierra's was meant to be an anniversary.
She was 16 when she played Christine... production started in 2002, movie released just before she turned 18... makes her even more incredible, yes?
the monkey box was left by now elderly husband Raoul. However, the rose and the ring that were already on the gravestone were left by the phantom, showing that he too has continued to love her his whole life.
Am I the only one freaking out about the weeping angels......

I love her voice and this song

Missing my dad so much on Father's Day. Anyone know how I feel?
I saw this show in New York over 20 years ago, and there was most definitely no children by the phantom in the performance I saw. This movie was a pretty faithful adaptation of the broadway musical to my recollection.
I wish I could sing like her... ._.
Emmy Rossum with Sierra Boggess are my favourite singers
I saw this live in Toronto when I was 12 years old and it was one of the most exhilerating moments of my entire life. Completely filled with amazement, still does it to me everytime I watch it.
Angels voice 😘😇😳

She has the most amazing voice! Truly sounds like some kind of an angel...I love you, Emmy Rossum!
I watched this movie for the first time last night, i cried a little
then afterwards i find out my best friend has fallen in love with my boyfriend... so now i keep listening to these songs over and over... especially all i ask of you...
I just watched the movie again after a year and still cried buckets. Perfectly cast. Brilliant!
I get chills every single time i hear this song
Wow I cant believe Emmy was the youngest woman 2 play Christine when she was 18
I want to sing this for my vocal class but it is pretty difficult
GUYS. it's not about what she's wearing.. it's about the song, the epicness of this musical and film.. DAMN IT,.
I love this song...so moving...

I love how this song both can be related to the father and the phantom. I know she is singing it to her father, but it could just aswell be about how she miss the Phantom as he was before Raoul was there.
amazing voice
Stop bringing up Dr. Who!! I don't hate the show but lets just enjoy this song. :)
Haven't been able to look at an angel statue the same way since those episodes.
stunning--
The full movies already up, just type phantom of the opera (2004) into youtube.
Christine! Don't Blink!
OHMYFLIPPINGGODILOVETHISSONG!
Oh. We're everywhere.
You mean.. the BEST?
i agree with you
But Emmy had trained for this role since she was 5. I can see the argument for different styles though
Omg I totally thing that too doctor who for life
It totally could one day!
I love you
OMG My friend told me about those......its like slenderman, only moving when no one see's and kills you. God super creepy! But besides that this song and video is great! Love Emmy's inoccent act as Christine.
I'm a Doctor Who fan, too, but seriously, shut up about the weeping angels. This ain't a Doctor Who video, guys.
Same here :'(
I blinked.
Love how the top comments are Dr. Who related and not Phantom related! Whovians unite!
miss my grandpa:(
I DO TOO! :D And don't look into its eyes..else it will CLIMB INSIDE.
she was a year older than me when she recorded this... omg so jelous
I wonder if Phantom had to kill a few weeping angels while Christine sang?
I'm sorry but I think Emmy Rossum did a better job at this song than Sarah Brightman. Don'tget me wrong Sarah Brightman is a FANTASTIC singer but she didn't quite hit the target as well as Emmy,

great movie but i wonder how she came from this elegant beauty to shamless not hatin cuz i like them both
That moment when the top comment involves Dr. Who......and so does the other top comment
Holy crap, you made this depressingly sweet clip extremely nightmarish! I'll never be able to look at it the same way again. That episode gave me legit nightmares... *shudder*

her name is emmy rossum
Don't blink Christine...
She did blink at 2:38
Was this transposed? It seems a lot higher than the original
DOCTOR WHO!!!! DOCTOR WHO!!! OMG! I LOVE THE FELLOW WHOVIANS ONLINE!
uh, yeah. My thoughts exactly.
Can you explain to me what everyone is talking about when they say to Christine- Don't blink-?
I agree, Emmy is sweet, but her voice is not enough for Christine. I love Sierra Boggess, I think she's my favourite Christine and Ramin Karimloo is amazing as the Phantom. I like Rebecca Caine too. The 25th anniversary is fantasric! I really like her as Fantine too, I listened to some clips on youtube and she's absolutely great :)
I'm singing this for an exam in my chorus class and I sound so ugly omg someone help me
*sees big statues w/ hoods at entrance* those are some BIG weeping angels... O.o
It's so sad he didnt have the lead :(
What are you talking about?
Doctor who? :} my friend LOVES doctor who! she still hasn't shown me a single episode. :(
Am I the only one who thinks of the Weeping Angels when I see those statues? ...? Yes? Oh, ok.
lol she is going to be sent back in time by weeping angels do not blink
Near the very end, her "S" on the word say "say" both times, reeeeally grates on me. It's like there's a slight "R" in front of it or something. Really picky critique, I know, I love the rest of it.
Don't blink!
Hey Guys, I like your Shoelaces......
Doctor!!!! Don't!!!
I hope she doesn't blink.
yeah, no, that's okay, I didn't need my heart anyway.
Emmy Rossum is soooo beautiful. I mean...she captures so much emotion in her face, and when she sings it's just like arrghhhhhhhhh so beautiful.
