    This is my favorite gardening channel and I'm subbed to like 2 dozen gardening channels. Most are super unrealistic and they seem to have a butt ton of plant companies sending plants and green houses and that's not realistic. Like chick nonchalantly plants like $350 plants and then shows us her glass greenhouse. This is way more educational and chill. Much love

    • @JDubKillinKicks
      @JDubKillinKicks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL I feel you on that one. Having a whole greenhouse full of plants at your disposable is not real life. I bought 2 Lemon Coral Sedums and turned them into 8 plants within a couple of months that's how we moving.

    • @paulplantu
      @paulplantu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, it would be awesome to get rare plants for free don’t get me wrong but a lot of products that other channels push aren’t necessary. Like tons of soil amendments etc… if you throw leaves on beds they’ll break down and amend the soil. Nature doesn’t require crazy ass techniques. I’m gonna do some seed starting this spring.

      I get so discouraged watching some of those other gardeners. Not only do they get tons of free plants, garden materials, and supplies, but they also seem to have a lot of help. I'm a senior and widowed. With just under an acre of land and numerous flower beds extending around the house, I struggle to maintain my plants and keep my beds neat and weed free. Nice to find a more realistic gardener. Thanks for the content.

    I found your channel while searching for DIY landscaping. I'm in Louisiana so very similar climate to Houston which is a huge plus because so many of the big gardening channels are in cooler climates. I have a front bed that desperately needs some love and I didn't have a clue what to do until I saw your front yard makeover. I'm totally doing that cardboard trick!

    Thank you what an awesome video I live in San Antonio Texas on an 1/2 acre I’ve always wanted a fruit forest the Texas freeze killed three of my flowering avocados, 3 Meyers lemons,ruby red grapefruit,three papayas,ice cream bananas and plantains, my milo tangerines,my rosemary big bushes I was devastated but I had no electricity for day to even warm myself, the freeze did not kill my pear tree, goji berrys, blueberries, brown turkey fig tree, plum tree and my grapes came back even the clippings in pots lived. I’ve decided to start again so I bought 4 avocados, 4 Meyers lemons, 7 different kinds of bananas, barbrosa cherry, 7ft GA 866 jujube tree, a minnie royal cherry and it’s pollinator royal Lee bare root 7ft tall, three apple trees, a plum tree so I’ve been very busy planting Your video had given me a great idea on how to incorporate beds around my trees that will not break the bank I have most of the materials here already now I just have to figure out how to win the fight with the damn squirrels taking my fruit they remove my pears before their ripe, dig holes in my plants remove plants from my hanging baskets dig holes into my potato pots they are destructive critters. I will fill the beds with lots of mulch to creat a protective layer from the heat and cold and see what happens hopefully we don’t get another freeze like we had last year. Great video

    Love it. I might do something like that along the side in front of my new house that borders the country highway that runs through town. Those truckers are gonna love the winding flowerbed.
    And I've got a ton of uhaul boxes! And a ton of trees dropping tons of leaves.... Craigslist fee bricks, I'm coming for you! I think I'll start making note of cool roadside flowers installed by urban planners. Those plants will withstand the harsh roadside conditions in my local area.
    Tip: check craigslist for free moving boxes and packing paper if your amazon habit can't keep up with the demand for cardboard.

    • @paulplantu
      @paulplantu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a ton of work to haul and move all the bricks but is definitely worth it. Just grow native wildflower seeds from your area and throw them in the bed. They’ll definitely do well. It’s amazing what I see growing on the sides of roads here in Texas.

    You did great Paul!! Not surprised it took you a month to do! Would you recommend cardboard for a desert garden?? Actually I'm surprised you didn't think to make one yet - a desert garden. Also, I'm glad I watched this! I don't why I think I think that putting 1 brick down should keep the weeds out!! 🙄
    One more thing Paul. I don't think this acre plot is big enough for you! 😁

    • @paulplantu
      @paulplantu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just use a shovel or plant what you want first and surround it with cardboard or mulch. You may have to pull out some grass around the plant that may creep out. The cardboard usually breaks down within 6 months or you can water it to speed up the process. It won’t take long in Mississippi.

    Paul, I'm wondering if the city or county ever contacted you about these beds. You sound like you're from Texas, and where I live in Texas, that strip of grass is considered an easement owned by the county.
    I'm not trying to mow this damn grass all the time. I'd much rather have some nice beds.

    • @paulplantu
      @paulplantu  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes city workers drive by and I can see them eyeing it but they don't care enough to actually report it or say anything. Also if you plant native species they really will have a harder time making you move them if they're beneficial to the environment.
